    a taller windshield may help buffeting but it also changes how it will handle in cross winds, anything fork mounted affects handling, its like a big sail pushing and pulling on the forks, i found most of the buffeting on mine came up from the sides of the tank so i put fork deflectors on to stop it, buffeting is tricky if you move your hand around you can usually find where its coming from

    • @Christofuzz-hc9xl
      @Christofuzz-hc9xl 4 месяца назад

      My thoughts are the same. Crosswind buffeting is probably the biggest complaint/problem I'm trying to deal with. Its not even the "death wobble", but the wind buffeting seems like it would instigate the wobble. Don't like that unstable feeling around 65,70 mph.

    At long last!!! Thank you for your experimentation and discovery. This is a nicely scientific journey into windscreen's height that so many riders want to follow in order to discover where to start, try out and then enjoy that final discovery to make their bike the perfect ride.

    I am 6'2" and I found out the hard way that it really takes about a 24" windscreen to eliminate buffeting on my helmet and at that point it looks ridiculous on any bike so I go with a lower screen to keep wind off my chest while my helmet has 'clean' air (not turbulent) as if I'm riding a naked bike. It's the best compromise for us tall folk and a helluva lot better then getting violent buffeting from a tall screen that isn't quite tall enough. Thanks for the video.

    I put some fork mounted wind deflectors on my road king. Made a noticeable difference in the air pocket behind the windshield. Got rid of the headshake and most wind noise.
    My windshield is a clockwerx with a flare that is just under my chin if I sit up straight. I can slouch and get behind it if I want.
    It strikes me as kind of funny, trying to control wind on a motorcycle.... Too much freedom in all that wind:)

    I've been using the Dougz mini Spartan fairing for the last 4 years on my fatbob.
    It worked great, i had no buffeting whatsoever, I'm 5'8 as well.
    Last week i decided i wanted a change, i went for the road warrior as it really looks the part, but as soon as i got on the motorway and got up to 80-90 mph my head was being battered all over the place, it was even making my view of the road go blurred, that's how bad the buffeting was. To say i was disappointed is an understatement.
    On your bike the bigger screen looks great as you've got T- bars fitted and all the proportions are bang on. On mine i have the stock bars and I'm not sure if the bigger screen will suit it or not, doing for different bars is another expense i don't need, but thanks for doing this video as its now given me a few things to think about👍👍.

    (*Helpful video, thank you!) I have the vented 13inch windshield, after finding online that it reduced buffeting. At highway speeds, 50mph+ I start to get the buffeting on the top of my helmet and that then starts shaking it around as I go faster. I'm probably going to go for the 15 inch before next season in the hopes that it will stop the buffeting.

    Great comparison! It's amazing what a few extra inches will do, amiright? #ThatsWhatSheSaid
    I will say, however, that going too tall can be problematic - I had more issues with a windshield that was way too tall for me on my Vulcan 800 before I bobbed it - going back to a shorter one helped.
    Does Memphis Shades make a Spoiler version for your bike? If so, you could get a shorter shield and the same - or better - wind protection.

    Hello. Can you give me some advice pls. I have a honda rebel 1100 2022. I am 5 ft 6 inch. I am using OEM seat. I am looking at memphis shades el paso. I am looking for best noise/wind reduction on body & helmet. I have never had a windshield before. So no experience reference point. I am willing to get the solar (least tinted) if because of my height it will be above my eye level, i mean i am willing to look through the windshield when riding (unless thats not a good idea) Thnks

    • @IronBornRider
      @IronBornRider  Год назад

      Hey! I don’t have experience with the El Paso or the rebel unfortunately. But I think the 13 inch option could be good to start out. I’ve read the ideal height of the faring is that the top of the faring should be at eye level

  • @mr.b3168
    @mr.b3168 2 года назад +1

    I got an altered industries extension for my quarter fairing and I hated it. It put the wind up higher, but it created this weird resonance vibration thing where it hit just at the correct angle and speed to where it cost my head to vibrate like a dildo. I would rather have my entire head be evenly pushed back instead of just that part

    • @IronBornRider
      @IronBornRider  2 года назад

      That was the feeling I had with the 11-13 inch windshield. The 15 was just high enough to push most of the wind above my head
