The third prince is just like his mom. They both have clear minds and are reliable. He has all the traits to be a great king. He has good judgment, does not hold a grudge is open-minded and rational.
There's another point of resemblance between him and his mother: they both genuinely love and care for the Emperor as family, not just a ruler-subject relationship. At 4:07, when the Emperor staggers, notice that the Third Prince *immediately* reacts, leaning forward and reaching up to try to steady his father. I think Eunuch Cao only got there first because he wasn't kneeling at the time.
I didn't like the 3rd prince when he first appeared. But the actor portraying him comports himself just like you'd expect an imperial prince to do. He just shouts, "I'm a royal and don't you forget it!" Apart from that, his character has the true makings of a good ruler - he puts the country first, is loyal to those who are loyal to him, bases his rulings on facts and doesn't look the other way when family engage in corrupt behavior - like his older brother does. As this drama progressed and his true self emerged, I really came to like him.
@@patriciaking7150 If we really look at the Crown Prince he is like the Emperor, when it came to those the Emperor thought were loyal, the Emperor didn't want to punish them.
That and the fact that he was literally the son of the man he says he owes everything too. Not just a nephew like he thought but the last of bloodline of man he greatly cherished.
Almost everyone underestimate her just because she's a young maiden and not very educated but she developed a very high sense of street smarts and wit. She also has a natural leaders ability, while other young girls her age panic in a crisis, she took charge and commanded.
I still get goosebumps when Shaoshang finally revealed that Ling Buyi is Hou Wushang. I kinda figured out that twist when Shaoshang said he looks like Gen. Huo, his real father. Also the other uncle revealing the two Huo kids looked like twins. So many heart stopping moments. And when Yuan Shianjian said they need to rescue Ling Buyi, I was like "Omg, goooooooooo!". I was in panic. Lol.
When Shaoshang says "He's the orphan of General Huo Chong... Huo Wushang"...the look on the Emperor's face is perfect. Disbelief and shock and a dawning realization. He HAD to have noticed things over the years that hinted at Zisheng's real identity, and you can SEE bits and pieces falling into place in the Emperor's head. Then, as she goes on to tell him how Zisheng told her his real identity, you can see the conflict in the Emperor's face again--a mix of anger and heartbreak that Zisheng's been deceiving him for years without ever telling him the truth, but also this very faint hint of breathless joy at the thought that Huo Chong's legacy, his son, is still alive in the world.
Proof of the Emperor's paternal love for Zisheng: Emperor: Go rescue the boy! Take anything you need bring him back to me! Also the Emperor: I am *so* going to whip his butt!
This drama was truly amazing, it was beautifully written, the director was amazing (from some the behind the scenes clips, he deserved best director awards), and the cast brought each of their characters to life, they made you love them and also hate some of them. There are two things I normally do not do, first I tend to not watch dramas until all the episodes are released and then I will binge watch them and I don't watch dramas with this many episodes. She knew eight officers were beaten. She was amazed when it was reported to her that ZiSheng did it all before lunch or something like that. She was quite impressed and pleased too, LOL.
The officer is talking about the murder. That is why she said Cheng Shaoshang was there. I also mistakenly thought that official was talking about Ling buyi beating him up.
The third prince from the beginning should have been named Crown Prince. Unlike the emotional, weak, easily manipulated Crown Prince, Third Prince is observant, fair, open-minded, courageous, thorough, a critical thinker, not easily controlled by familial relationships or fabricated debts of obedience or gratitude, voices unpopular opinions fearlessly and puts aside his personal emotions for the greater good of the nation, empire, people and truth. Unlike Crown Prince who is immature and spineless and tries to make everyone happy so as not to be in their bad graces or even have his own sisters upset with him, CP doles out serious responsibilities to family members who can't possibly handle said responsibilities, just to show he's loyal to family, even if it means he's jeopardizing the nation, the people and their future: he's even too dumb to monitor the people in those responsibilities to make sure they're doing what they're supposed to be doing because he, himself, has no clue what the jobs he's handed out entail, so how can he monitor their progress or lack thereof? He does not see any of this as a problem, and that, in itself, is a huge problem. Third Prince is adamant about protecting the relatively new empire and all those in it rather than winning a popularity contest. Crown Prince's own siblings have little regard for him as a future ruler because they can twist him around their little fingers and lead him around by the nose because they've done it repeatedly. He wouldn't last a month as emperor because he wouldn't mistrust anyone or anything said to him and if he didn't mistrust someone whispering falsehoods in his ears, he would never suspect anyone of treachery or selling out the nation so he'd never investigate, interrogate, torture to get to the truth. As Ling Buyi says to the emperor at some point (might be a spoiler: not sure where this conversation comes in these vids), but the emperor asks him point blank if he felt Crown Prince isn't fit for the job and Ling Buyi tells him if CP ever ascends to the throne, it wouldn't take but a blink for LB to unseat him and in that regard, CP isn't fit to hold said position and the only reason LB hasn't made any moves toward that future is that he loves and respects the sitting emperor too much to hurt him that way. I truly like the personality and moral character of Third Prince and how he doesn't shy away from knowing absolutely everything going on around him, the palaces, the palace people and the people of the nation. He's highly intelligent, articulate, doesn't miss much, questions everything and researches, investigates, evaluates and arrives at conclusions that escape most others except for Ling Buyi, which is one reason they make such a formidable team. Toss in Shaoshang's character, life's experiences, her ability to strategize and build something out of nothing, her survival trait of knowing her enemy as well as her moral compass and generosity of heart and the 3 of them are a force of nature. The camera work as Shaoshang and Third Prince ascend the stairs after crossing the courtyard is formidable. Posture is perfect, gowns flowing with intentional strides, their expressions are determined, knowing, ready because they know the blowback they're about to face when confronting the traitor screaming for someone else's life (Official Zuo). The power of the two of them walking up those stairs as if about to confront the devil himself was beautifully choreographed. (Off topic: If anyone is wondering where they've seen Third Prince before, he's "K" from FIYS).

Yuan and Cheng Caoshan didn't know the real enemy, they both freed Pengkun from Ling Buyi but in the end Pengkun was killed by Ling Yi,
This is really a life lesson, the essence of drama is that if it's none of our business, why interfere? The intention is to help, but if you don't find out the problem first, it will only make things murky ✌️✌️✌️
