You do NOT accuse a professional soldier of being a coward! The official is lucky he got away with a broken leg! When you consider the Fifth Princess and her minions are the Mean Girls of a high school movie, this becomes all the more delicious. Given the culture of filial piety, having caused physical harm and public degradation to their fathers will absolutely tank the minion's reputations, and worse lower their value in the marriage market. All without stooping to physically attacking teenage girls which would not have been unfair considering that throwing a non-swimmer in awkward clothing into a body of water and throwing in venomous snakes is attempted murder.

The plot is awesome! LBY was revenging for Niao Niao but at the same time he’s investigating his father’s death - searching for evidence in Censorate after he trashed the place in the name of restoring it back to the original state, killed fifth princess’s lovers to shame her future husband’s family into reacting and exposing themselves! Very calculative and efficient… no wonder Niao Niao was so mad after she found out in the end, she thought he was using her, creating this loving husband image but was secretly taking vengeance on his enemies! Brilliant plot
He was using her. Everything she did or find out. He used it and helped him finding the truth faster. Because of NN. He had proove what happened and who was involved. Also rapid his killing his fake father. But she wasn't mad because of that. She was mad because he didn't trust her and in the end jumped of the horse and left her alone. She knew he loved her very much. She told him that she would do the same to have her revenge. So he knew but he left her and he knew with that action he screwed it. Leaving her alone again was unforgivable in her eyes. And given her history understandable. But they all forget. Life is short and some actions are a waste of time.

This foreshadows, on a much smaller scale, the total devastation that will be leveled against those who decimated LBY's family and his entire town and garrison just for the sake of power, greed, and overturning a monarchy. While not appropriate today, we once again see the cultural context of ancient Asian societies' laws approving of/encouraging filial revenge to quiet the souls of those who perished through the willful violence from others and allowing them to rest in peace.
