Of all the inventions ever produced throughout the decades, the aeroplane is the most beautiful and the most graceful of all, but Especially the Boeing 747's. A stunning machine..... Outstanding landing 🛬🇿🇦
In perfect condition, what a sad day to withdraw her from service when she still had many more hours left. A Graceful aircraft she is. Congrats to the pilots and all that made this occasion possible. Sad that it was Muted.
You will have to forgive me but I am not in aviation. So take whatever I say with that in mind. But Rand Airport (Where this aircraft was stored) is at 1,671 m above sea level. I believe this makes it a "hot and high" airport and therefore this adversely affects landing and takeoff performances.
Carefully listen and look at the go-around explanation. His hand shows the throttle, flap and gear sequence 👏🏾and "Chris an Phil if something is not right speak up. You flown this plane for many years" 😂 what a Captain 💪🏾
How sad that they had to retire a plane in perfect working order. I will not fly SAA because of their almost all Airbus fleet these days. The 747 SP should have lived on to fly many more years. I doubt we will ever get a 747-8I in the fleet anytime soon *sigh*
Flying to my first job in SA in 1975 on an SAA 747 SP, the flight to Jan Smuts Airport (Jo' Burg) was in the air 13.5 hr. from San Francisco. No fly over continent. Shorter airframe = more fuel. My favorite.
by far the best looking 747 livery ever - and I'm not from SA but saw them every day in Heathrow
South African Airways pilots were always best of the best!-
Baie interessant en emotional moment. Dankie vir die laaste oomblikke se deel met ons😢
interesting video, great work landing such a huge aircraft at Rand

Fantastic it is on display and not scrapped

Probably only 5-6 years more
Great video.Glad to see that at least this Boeing 747 SP will be preserved and not scraped. Too bad HD Video was not more common place in 2006.
Beautiful stuff so sad
Agree 😢
Thanks to a feature of RUclips I have been able to keep the original audio minus the song. Enjoy!

Shame about the removed audio. 30 minute vid and no sound throughout just because a portion contained some background music...

Iran Air is still running 1 747SP. But will store it this year =/
747s are not today's planes neither are a380s hence they are out of the production. Its all twin engines unfortunately now
We might need to reintroduce these two mighty planes back into service when the evacuations begin.
Don’t worry ull never have to. It’s bankrupt
awesome plane period
Reverse thrust? Inner and mid leading edges did not retract. Does the SP not do that?
Please re upload there is no sound, youtube say you breached copyright!
I've got this on DVD. So Sad
where is the sound? & why did people think an airline was in distress before the time of 6 minutes & 35 seconds?
No sound would have liked to hear what was going on

The SP carried less fuel then 747-200
Somebody missed caging the standby attitude indicator on their preflight. Not the best time for the Captain to cage it on takeoff roll.
Fuck the copyright shit. Video would have been nice with the audio
Poor video which is unfortunate because this momentous occasion deserved the best - at least it's something
so old. should be scrapped by now.
Its a museum.
I see thai plane everyday ,it's a perfect motivation to keep fighting to be in the air
