- Vânia Fernandes represented Portugal at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade with the song Senhora Do Mar (Negras Águas)
This should have been Portugal's first victory at Eurovision. It still makes me speechless after all these years.
Totally agree.... Much better and powerful than the song that won esc
Fully agree
Couldn’t agree more :)
Still listen to that Wonderful Masterpiece 2021💯🙋♀️🇵🇹
Same
One of the most criminally underrated song in ESC history.
After 16 years, it still gives me goosebumps! Portugal's best performance in Eurovision!
One of the most beautiful Eurovision songs of all time. Criminally underrated at the contest.
yeah, and a plagiarism of army of lovers - crucified
The audience went more nuts for this song than the winner that year. Says it all.
@@vladvanderzee1742 Most songs from Eurovision in the 80s-90s sounded like Crucified's chorus.
Portugal is always underrated at Eurovision...
2024 and still listening. This song haunts me. Love from 🇬🇷

This song is not just a "regular" Eurovision entry from Portugal, but also an ANTHEM.
A true MASTERPIECE from the very first second to the last.
The real winner of Eurovision 2008
yasss
it was amazing right?!
Eurovision Portugal yes sim
Agreed 💙💙💙
Só true
This song should've won that year!!!
A genuine masterpiece!
agree
agreed
This song was just way too good for Eurovision.
Agree
Combination of balkan tradition and portuguese music!
@@GoldeneUmberto its portuguese fado.
Vorname Name This isn’t Balkan
@@peixe-no-pão But composed by a Croat, so that's why he says Balkan. Andrej Babic was the composer and he also wrote some of the Croatian entries in those years.
Unbelivable. After 9 years i can't understand how this masterpiece didn't at least finish in top 5.
The language can't be always the excuse.
Rodriportugal1 like they say in Portugal "it's our FADO" meaning "it's our destiny"
True! But one day we will rise! xD
i think it was the last year that it was 100% public vote... if i am not mistaken
we rose
And if you spoke portuguese you would see that this song is poetry!
Finally Portugal won the contest after suffering such big injustices. And took this sweet song's revenge.
They are backing to the big injustices this year with Conan not qualifying.
@@aleksanderpagels288 facts only
Ok
The best song of Portugal in the competition. This should be Portugal's first win.
This song is the reason of why I want to visit Portugal, and learn some Portuguese.
Baris Ync. its worth it!
It's a fantastic country, fantastic people, in Greece we love Portugal very much!!! I've been there twice, I like it so much!!!
istorikos1975 nice to know! Im portuguese so i apreceate that! I realy what to go to greece mostly because of 2 things: the mithology and baclava (im positive those are not well writen but you get it :-)!)
Come to eat baklavá and galaktobúreko as well ;) We are waiting!!!
:-) :-)
This is the best song Portugal has sent to Eurovision. Can't believe they did not win this year. I get goosebumps every time I listen to this song. This song is so beautiful and authentically Portuguese. Unlike other countries sending Swedish/American pop, Portugal stays true to themselves sending distinctly Portuguese songs.
REAL WINNER ESC 2008!!!!
YASSSS

GRANDE PORTUGALLLLLLLL
Never stopped listening to it.
12 points from a greek fan
2024 and still listening. Great song!!!! Love from Athens, Greece.
Probably the best Portugal’s entry at Eurovision. Simply perfect. Staging, song, vocals, perfomance. All. So underrated cause this deserved top five for sure. Thanks for this art.
art? you funny. it's a copy not art. original art is army of lovers - crucified which Senhora do mar is a copy of!
Serbian and Croatian for Portuguese performance (Andrić and so far...)
@@vladvanderzee1742 you drunk?
We can agree that when we hear the name Portugal, we think of something just like this song or close to it. A true MASTERPIECE
This is the song I listen on a regular basis. Should've been Portugal's first win. Aboslutely perfect.
i think their first win should have been 1994 with "chamar a musica" but this one still should have been a victory for portugal
Madalena Iglesias with Ele e Ela in 1966 should have been the first Portuguese winner !!!!! Also Simone de Oliveira with Desfolhada Portuguesa in 1969, Menina alto do sera in 1971, Playback in 1981, Conquistador in 1989, and Senhora do Mar in 2008 should have all won !! They were all better then the winners !
@@evanthorn408 Taaantas vezes que devíamos ter ganho...
This should’ve been Portugal’s first victory in the Eurovision!
What a masterpiece ✨
My winner of 2008.
With love from Armenia.
Such a beautiful masterpiece ❤️
Obrigado! 💙
Se merecía ganar!!
This song is my favorite of all Portugese entries. So beautiful music and vocals. Real Lusitanian fairytale.
Amazing, so underrated. Europe is so unfair with some countries in Eurovision.
not this year
underrated copy of army of lovers crucified
@@vladvanderzee1742 I mean a David Guetta rip-off won in 2015 so talk about overrated copies.
One of the best songs I have ever heard! Too good for the Eurovision..
One of the most beautiful eurovision songs EVER!
When i first heared it i was speechless. The singers voice is fantastic, the backing singers are amazing and the music is lovely. Spanish and Portuguese always sounded so strange to my ears and yet i fell in love with that song and still hear it today. I've searched and found out the lyrics and i was speechless again. I always felt somethings wrong with the eurovision voting system. This song should have been No1 ! Congratulations to Vania Fernandes and her group, all portuguese should be proud! I send you our support and love.
Nik from Greece :-)
Strange? 🤔
Spanish sounds like Greek to me.
@@alexandre_pt yeahh me too! Haha
Phonetically the two languages are very similar! Greek and Spanish!
I cry everytime
This is one of the best songs ever in ESC. Still Love it! 🇸🇪
My winner in 2008. This never will change.
Mine too
Mine too ❤ Vânia
Portugal 🇵🇹 My Real Winner of ESC 2008. A great, emotional, deep and amazing Portuguese song. This is a Masterpiece I can't stop listen this song 11 years after!
How Europe has voted down Portugal at Eurovision is close criminal and this is another example. Fantastic song and performance.
Top three at least!
I love you Portugal, Laurent from Switzerland!
frrrr! the juries would've eaten this up
Still get goosebumps when listening to this... Should have won!!!
A masterpiece. It's a shame the juries weren't reintroduced until a year later, 'cause this gorgeous, powerful ballad and that performance should have carried Portugal to a top-5 finish (at long last!).
George Moschos
I doubt 'Shady Lady' would have made the jury top 5. Somewhere around 10th maybe?
Now that's a top-3 I could've gotten behind.
this song is perfect justification for having juries.
Fortunately enough, the Icelandic voters gave it 6 very well deserved points with their calls and SMS messages.
@@herrprofessor Yes, I was very proud of that, and that we gave 8 to France.
Everytime I listen to this song, I get teared up. This is just a Portuguese Masterpiece!!!
Just spectacular!!!! ❤️🇵🇹❤️
Əla mahnıdı!💓
I ADORE this song, definitely the best Portugal has ever sent.....
Even better than Salvador!
But I prefer the one from 2015 😍😍
It’s one of the best me 2023 😂 1st time listening
This always gives me goosebumps, what a voice, what a melody. Simply perfection, saludos hermanos 🇪🇸❤️🇵🇹
Forever my 2008 winner.
Still an absolute winning material.
Bro i see you everywhere! You're right tbh, in another year this would've finished way higher and probably would've won

Best Portuguese entry BY FAR
The real winner of 2008 but at least Portugal won in 2017. Love from Spain ❤
MASTERPIECE! The first time I saw my country ALL united and supporting Vânia! We really thought it was our year!!.. We're still very proud of her
i really love this song so much!!!! i hope Portugal sends more songs like this :)
It was by far the best song from Portugal
MASTERPIECE! Não acho. A musica/canção é pouco interessante. CRIATIVIDADE.
Runner up of its semi but so low at the final? Unbelievable! We could have had Lisbon 2009.
Quem esta aqui a ouvir esta música ,no confinamento .🙏
An epic song with an unforgettable evocative melody. Well done Portugal.
My Favorite Song Ever!!!!
I adore this performance!
So classy, so stylish. I loved this performance and the song. And I still do. Why, Europe, why?!
2024 y siempre vuelvo a escuchar a Vania. Qué voz, piel de gallina cada vez
A MASTERPIECE. The sensitive yet inspiring fado vibes... Amazing voice... I get goosebumps! Greetings from Turkey.

Winner of ESC 2008 ! The best song of Portugal !
By far the best Portuguese entry, one of my all time faves and definitely deserved top 5! Portugal, please send more masterpieces like this one ❤️
we already send again in 2012 other masterpiece, but this year 2017 we going to win with Salvador Sobral for shure
Salvador and his boring song won out of pity.

Fantastic entry with a distinct Portuguese touch.

Every single person on that stage was brilliant.
9 years later PORTUGAL made it!!!!🇵🇹👏👏👏 Thank u Eurovision for uploading it!!!
I cannot believe I have only just come across this amazing song, 12 years after its entry in eurovision. So I played all entries from that year, what were the voters thinking this so is amazing compared to the rest. THIS IS A SONG.
Should have won the contest that year. Unbelievably passionate and soaring song.
Even today, so many years after ESC in Belgrade, I still ADORE this beautiful song, this wonderful performance and this mighty voice of Vania!
This is why Portugal won't win Eurovision. This is a MASTERPIECE and she became 13º :(
The worst part is Latvia scored higher -_-
not to mention she won most press awards at Eurovision.. shame.. our best song so far in the 21st century :)
Qwerty ESC GUESS WHAT PORTUGAL WAN WOHOOOO
HAHA I'm SO SO HAPPY for Portugal, Salvador won my heart (L)
That moment when I read your comment and I knew, that reality has gladly proved you wrong. I was angry that they didn't win in 2008, so the victory wasn't only long overdue, but Portugal once again brought quality. Winning the whole contest of 2017 was the only option for me and it actually happend 😍
Still have goosebumps listening to this song!
i don't understand what happened. 2nd in the Sf and 13 in the final??? This song is so beautiful and deserved to be in the top 5, and it's honestly way better than the winning song.
nepotism
Audiences are (were?) different for semis and final - semis at the time were (still are?) pretty much diaspora + megafans, and the final had a wider audience. Sympathy for Portugal was at an all-time high among the fans, it was last in its semi draw, and let's face it the song was/is a masterpiece. Only thing I can think was that Europe wasn't willing to have two straight powerful ballads winning. I do think it'd have broken top 10 with 50/50 though (EBU never did release 50/50 or jury results) or a draw closer to the end.
To be honest the 2008 final was one of the strongest ever, much more competitive than the 2nd semi final.
@@STPickrell what do you mean exactly with your last sentence?
@@user-fj4xw9on4i The song would've been top 10 with either 50/50 televote/jury - OR if it were 18th or later in the draw (it was like 10th). In the semi it had fans to help out and then it also was at the very end.
Hallo from Greece. I still listen it... I still remember it!! Tremendous achievement!!! Congratulations
As a Turkish, I am so sad that this one should have won. Both my country Türkiye and Portugal sent high-quality entries in 2008. Also Norway too... It is all about status-quo! You are amazing Vânia.
one of the best or maybe the best Portuguese entry. Amazing performance voice and everything. Shame that Europe underrated very much. at leat top 10. I love the lyrics and music. Greetings to Portugal from Mexico. I hope this 2017 come back with a powerful song like this.
You got your wish
Yes, Portugal do and win the 1•Time ever, the Eurovision in 2017🎉🎉🥇🎉🎉🎆✨🙋♀️🇵🇹

I love this song! Every ear when Eurovision starts, I like to re-watch this song again and again! Great thanks for the song and performance!
To watch and listen to it in 2020... makes even more clear that it should have been the WINNER!!!!
Portugal might have a similar perfomance this year with Valeria, but to top this one, impossible.

What-
Omg, she sang better than 99% of others and this is a MASTERPIECE
