I've tried it and everytime I change the previous tempo, the alignment is also change, so I have to re align it manually.. And the tempo is really messed up.. Thank you in advance..

      Sorry I didn't see this comment sooner. Not sure I fully understand the problem and don't have any experience with 2 of those three apps! I'm afraid I'm no help. What I would do if I needed to add a drummer to a movie would be create a click track using some of the beat mapping tips here and have them play along with the click track in headphones

    QUESTION: I'm trying to adjust my beat map for a certain section. The midi events are all changing when I adjust the tempo. They aren't SMTPE locked so I don't know how to fix it. I'm using a Marker that is SMPTE locked and dragging the beat map bar over to change the tempo to match the marker, then all the midi events in that section are shifting over instead of staying on the beat. Any ideas?

    I didn't know you were the composer for The TMNT 2007 Teaser Trailer, but I'm not surprised that the music wasn't from Klaus Badelt, trailers always have Original Music that's somewhat similar or at other times drastically different to the final product. Great insight.

    Hi! Thanks for the video, it was really helpful! I have a question though. In my case, I don't want the tempo to change between markers. (The tempo change in your example in between the three sections was apparently your artistic choice) but when you do beat mapping, Logic kind of enforces you to adjust the tempo according to that. How can I line up the markers with beats and bars and NOT change the tempo of the music that I will be writing? Thanks!

    • @STADigitalMedia
      @STADigitalMedia  3 года назад

      Sounds like you don't need beat mapping, as it's the tempo adjustment that moves the measures to hit the markers. Do you just want to create markers that align to measures? If you want markers on a particular part of a film to align with beats in Logic, either the music will have to change tempo (slow or speed up) or the video will have to be time remapped (which would have to happen in a different app). Something has to give in order for them to line up!

    Great video! How do you handle recording count in? If you start the recording at the new tempo, Logic counts in at the previous section's tempo. If you move the new tempo to a few bars before the marker, the marker becomes improperly aligned. Does this makes sense? Just wondering how you workaround this...

    • @STADigitalMedia
      @STADigitalMedia  2 года назад +1

      Ah, sorry I didn't see this sooner....honestly, I haven't run into that but totally can imagine the problem. I might find myself recording the new section a measure late OR, setting the count-in a couple bars longer and practicing the feel of the switch to the new tempo

    why can't you slice movies like in iMovie? i need this for podcast video editing without having to switch program

    • @STADigitalMedia
      @STADigitalMedia  3 года назад

      iMovie is a video editing program (as you know) and Logic is not. You might consider an upgrade from iMovie to Final Cut Pro if you're looking for advanced features that you can't seem to find in iMovie. You could do all of your editing in FCP & all Logic audio plugins are included in that. I actually think FCP is a brilliant podcast editing program -- audio or video podcasts. FCP does the job like a champ and the magnetic timeline makes cutting a podcast a breeze.

    Great video Shawn! I have a question.... can I see the video window with the actual video quality (size) in another monitor? To project the trailer for the musicians to play seeing the video in a big screen?!

    • @STADigitalMedia
      @STADigitalMedia  3 года назад

      Yes, for sure. A secondary display works almost splendidly -- however, the logic video playback window doesn't project full-screen very well. You can resize the video for full screen, but it still has this kind of distracting border around it like it's a Logic window (which I guess it is!). Also, higher quality videos tend to playback a little less smoothly, potentially.

      This video has really taken on a life of its own. It was a video for my class and the Google drive folder is just shared within our school network -- however, I can tell you how I put together the files for the students to use for their projects. It's a little hit or miss, but can be fun to search through trailers to find ones that are mixed in 5.1 and the center channel is dialogue only. As I said, it can be a little hit or miss, but it's kind of like a scavenger hunt. Here's how I explained it to the students in a later year (ruclips.net/video/e2bWNupLZlo/видео.html)

    • @STADigitalMedia
      @STADigitalMedia  3 года назад +1

      Logic is an audio editing application, not a video editing application. It's designed to mix and write music and sound after the video is already cut and doesn't have the ability to modify the video in any way. Pop over to iMovie or Final Cut Pro and revise the video, then open the new movie in Logic! :-)

I used the marks and it's ok, but I've the sensation that video goes faster or lower, is it possible? How can I know that is 4/4 and not 2/4? I just calculate it by heart counting. Beat mapping is BROKEN in the current version of logic it seems. :-( See this comment: In version 10.4 of Logic, the beat mapping behavior affects ALL the markers, unfortunately. This video is not the way it behaves in current versions. I submitted and was working on a help ticket with Apple before the release of 10.5. Perhaps 10.5 fixed the very destructive way that beat mapping removes all previous and following tempos. What's the point of that!? I believe it's a bug. Like I said, I haven't updated to 10.5 so I'm hopeful it behaves normally (as shown in this video) now.

      It's possible the newest version of Logic has made some changes. It's not at all intuitive, you really have to click and drag blindly because nothing seems to happen in the interface until you finish dragging into the bottom to line up with the beat.

    • @STADigitalMedia
      @STADigitalMedia  5 лет назад

      ...also make sure you have a marker and that the marker is selected. That's what you're dragging from the beat lane to the beat of the marker. Also Logic definitely did change with the recent update and it overwrites tempos when you beat map. No Good!
