Bro! thank you so much for this video! Really helpful and well explained!
I’ve been wrecking my brain to align sync the tempo to frame and you just gave me the answer.
Thanks!
Tempo is such a difficult part of the job. Especially if you have a weak computer where you're freezing. Then you want everything set from the beginning, which is a lot of pressure!
thank you so much !!! I am about to apply to a Filmmusik school and this is right on the spot for me
YOU JUST SAVED ME SO MUCH TIME!! Thank you SO much for sharing this!
You are very welcome!
You are a life saver choi. Best video ever. Please keep uploading videos about technical as well as creative aspects of film scoring. Thanks a ton brother!
Glad to have helped!! I’ll do more of that stuff for sure!
Thank you so much for this video. This is the best tutorial on this topic I have seen so far, and most I have seen use Beat Mapping, which I found awkward in a way... thank you.
Yes! That's an achievement! hahaha. Yeah, I started with beat mapping too. Works fantastically for simple stuff, but if you get more intricate or include rit/accels, it starts getting wonky. Glad it helped!
I just wanted to thank you for this video! I keep coming back to this every time I'm setting up a tempo map in Logic, just to make sure I'm not forgetting something 😄
Thanks! So glad it’s been helpful for you!
Love the video yo! I am subscribed. That subscribe & like reminder at around 7:24 was pretty gnarly! Haha!
Keep up the good work!
Thanks!! I put those in when I lose continuity in my edit hahahaha
I wish I would have had your expertise when I was your age. That would have been a game-changer.
This is invaluable❤
Thank you! ㄱㅅ
Very helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I had to repeat watching the first modification you did to the tempo based on the marker. Three times I laughed at your proude face. hahaha
Great content! Thanks my man!
How did you make the sync point video with the moving white bar? AfterEffects?
Thanks!
After effects would work. I used Apple’s motion
@@DIDCHOI Thank you!
Great video! I'm specifically trying to figure out if I can change the tempo at the beginning of the project (for the first scene) without moving any of the audio/midi I already have in place behind it. I attempted to apply this info but couldn't figure it out. Seems like there is no avoiding having to move everything back where I want it if I change the tempo of just one section...?
Select all the regions you don’t want to move (relative to picture) and lock to SMPTE position.
But also, if you move the tempo in the beginning, it will affect everything else. What you need to do is add another new tempo point before your next tempo change to compensate for the time you increase or decrease so that your next section lines up with the grid
Video so good I H A D to leave a comment
Glad it helped!
Great video! If I want the tempo transitions to be as discrete as possible, is there an easy way of gradually fading into the new tempo over the course of whole scene (rather than a short ritardando), without having to manually mess around with curves?
Well I was gonna say, use the curves and make a linear slope.
If this is for live musicians and recording, not a great idea. If it’s entirely in the box, this will work.
Though might not sound natural as people don’t play perfectly linear tempo changes in real life haha
@@DIDCHOI it is for in the box media music where i want the tempo transitions to be as transparent as possible, but i think what I'm really asking is whether there is a function in logic that will calculate a perfect linear transition and still perfectly get to the hit point between markers.
@@Mojo_Musik Ohhh, linearly while hitting markers...Yes, you can program them under Tempo Operations. But it can be a litttle finicky, especially if there are many changes, which is why I made a video using alternative methods. But, yes it can be done. Try researching Tempo Operations
@@DIDCHOI Thank you for taking the time to reply to my messages. Wishing you all the best :)
Is there a way to do this if you have made the music track already and then beat map it to the visual?
Yes! Couple factors to consider. If everything’s in MIDI and you want change the tempos, it’ll work fine if you do it exactly as I have. (Make sure to unfreeze any tracks if you’ve frozen stuff)
If you have audio tracks, they will not automatically change length obviously, so the easiest way would be to turn on an appropriate flex mode for the audio tracks, then it should work out (as long as the flex still sounds acceptable)
It might involve some cutting and shifting if you have very complex conforms, but people do this all the time if there’s a new picture provided for example
QUESTION: I'm trying to adjust my beat map for a certain section. The midi events are all changing when I adjust the tempo. They aren't SMTPE locked so I don't know how to fix it. I'm using a Marker that is SMPTE locked and dragging the beat map bar over to change the tempo to match the marker, then all the midi events in that section are shifting over instead of staying on the beat. Any ideas?
The midi is supposed to do that. You need to get the bar to hit the smpte position.
Where can I purchase streamer -punches and add them to logic pro?
I've ended up creating custom motion templates for Final Cut Pro. I burn in the streamer and punches into the video. Logic's video capabilities are not powerful enough to do it inside.
When I change the beat map all my midi items go off grid. What's up with that? I'm using a marker that is smtpe locked but the regions aren't locked.
Hmmm, not really sure why that's happening. Sounds like behaviour resulting in a locked region...Would have to look at it to know more
@@DIDCHOI there is a feature "protect midi" that you have to select before making changes. It's pretty weird, should be the default imo.
Just earned a subscriber. Thank you for the hard work in passing on wisdom!
Thanks!! Appreciate it!
