You have some of the best serves for a 3.5 and considering you just started, I can only see you going up from here. Also that second-serve ace at 3:17 was amazing.

Trey needs to watch the foot faults. Almost every serve is a foot fault and in the add court his right foot is either on the hash mark or past it. Otherwise, spectacular progress for someone who’s only played for a couple of years.
Great debut on the channel, Trey 👏 Your serve was bigger but not more effective, you had 4 more unreturned serves but the 4 double faults cancelled it out. Interestingly, you won more points in the 1-4 shot rally length (22 vs 18) but Winston dominated the longer rally lengths (21 vs 3). The main problem was your backhand (6 unforced errors) and your net game (0/7 points won). Looking forward to the 2nd set
Thanks for showing this- it was a great match. 4.5 serve and running speed from Trey. In the end, I think the longer experience from Winston showed, and Trey made just a few more mistakes and subopimal tactical choices. But overall, man, impressive. Both of you!
Trey is a massively gifted athlete. His serve is better than many 10 UTRs on the channel. I suggest forget serve placement and tactics at this juncture...and definitely have CONFIDENCE in your strokes. You're the definition of a natural. Winston did show the challenge of playing a considerably lower ranked player initially; "you can only lose"

Trey's progress for the amount of time he's played is remarkable. To be able to serve like that is wild. His other strokes will catch up. I dont think many tennis players know how hard it is to start tennis as an adult and how much time it takes to dial in consistent play. Hes WAY ahead of the curve. Great job Trey!
Great match! My analysis: Great wheels, 4.0+ serve, 3.5/4.0 return, 4.0 forehand, 3.5 backhand, 3.0 volley, 3.0 backhand slice. I think the serve and forehand alone will allow you to be successful at the 4.0 level. The rest will come with time.
I empathize with you, Winston. My match against Trey went pretty much identical to yours. Trey is fun to play against. I think the 4.5 ball actually helps him because it's predictable, bounces into the strike zone, and provides pace to make footwork easier. Maybe one day we'll get a match in! Fun to watch this one though!
So if I had to point out one thing, it would be that although Trey's serve is a big one, the vast majority of them were landing in the center of the box. Winston's aggression gave up quite a few free points from taking a full swing at every ball, but in the 3.5-4.0 world there's going to be a lot of players who are happy to just block the ball back. He needs to go for the down-the-middle and out-wide serves more often to really turn that serve into a dominant weapon. Still, taking 3 games off even a sub-par Winston is impressive, definitely looking forward to checking out the channel!

So true, the angle on this video is way better than what Trey has on his channel where his shots didn't seem half has good as they look here. He should probably lower his camera and try to get a similar angle, it makes the whole match that more interesting.

Trey is definitely a 4.0 now because of his serve and forehand. It's amazing how in the past few months, something has clicked and the quality of his forehand, backhand and serve has improved so much. Trey needs to work on improving the technique of his volley, approach shots and returns the most. He should also work on developing a low return slice. It's a great crossover Winston. Really fun to watch you two play together. I noticed the same, that your level was lower than I've seen against higher level players. That's how it goes sometimes! Good match all around, quite entertaining.
We got our first serve bot on the channel !! Treys serve is huge, 5.0+ level, but rest of the game reminds me of why I’m not past 7 UTR, unforced errors !! Lots of potential Trey, but Winston is huge underrated 4.5, actually a 5.0, so 8-3 is very respectable score !! Keep it up both of you !!
Dang, Trey is improving so quickly! As others have said, his serve is far beyond a 3.5 serve. Looking forward to him becoming a strong 4.0 or 4.5. Just a matter of time... considering how much he comes to the net, he should definitely shore up his volleys. This set would have been so much closer if his net game matched his aggressiveness.

Trey, your serve looks like a right handed Goran Ivanisevic! Not a big deal in a match like this, but you foot fault quite a bit when you step forward with your right foot during your pin point stance. Something to watch out for but you've got a great weapon in that serve!

Entertaining to watch-thank you for posting. However, Trey foot faults 95% of the time, so hopefully he gets that addressed fast. His forehand is a solid 4.0 and dangerous , but his backhand is low 3.5-it would be easy for others to win-hit to his backhand. Was great to watch the match!!

This was a great match fellas. I love the modern swing you fellas use, I am trying to learn to hit with more of modern swing and it’s a lot harder than it looks. I got a new ball machine and tried it out for the first time yesterday and I was hitting really flat forehands and with a little topspin. I think my racquet might be too big for modern style play, as it’s a 100 pure drive, and when I turned the machine up, the racquet was literally turning in my hand when I was hitting some shots. What’s your thoughts on the pure drive 110? I am thinking it’s for older players that play a lot of doubles. The slinger ball machine is awesome and I look forward to practicing the modern forehand, like you fellas hit. Great job on the video Winston, and great playing Trey. @@WinstonDu I agree with you, I got two of the Pure drive 110 to try it then out, but the 98sq feels more comfortable for me when I hit with more pace. I was hitting yesterday and the racquet literally was turning in my hands when I was trying to hit with pace. Thank you for your advice my friend, I appreciate it very much. I have an older friend who loves the 110 s so maybe I will gift them to him and get the 100sq in Babalots.
Honest assessment: Trey's serve is something I've seen with other 3.5 players. Others can hit that serve faster, but less consistent. Trey has a nice motion, nice toss, nice point of contact and uses his height to his advantage by placing it very well. He also covers a lot of ground and it helps that he's young. With that said, their game revolves around that and at that level it can get them a lot of cheap points and wins. The rest is not there yet, the volleys and the backhands are severely lacking. The forehand can spray, and the shot selection is not crisp. Is Trey a 4.0 now? No, he's not. He's an above average 3.5 player simply because of his serve and movement. Can he get to 4.0? Yes, and will very likely continue to improve his game with time.
Massive improvement from Trey. I think both players here suffer from poor footwork on groundstrokes, I know I do as well so its easy to spot. Looking at Karue and the #1 UCLA player, you see they are never wrong footed and hit every ball with crisp precision. Must feel great to be able to do that on command.
Wow…I watched Trey a couple months ago and that serve speed is getting up there! I think he just needs more match play and he’ll be an all-around 4.0 real soon!
One thing will help Trey’s serve better is to correct his right foot not to step ahead of his left foot during serving. A coach might be able to help him.
Trey - great serve, solid groundstrokes. Take a tiny bit off your second serve to increase reliability. Move Winston around the court more - too many center court shots. Keep it up!
Great match! I thought Winston started a bit nervous but then really started playing really well. I could totally see his different mindset of not being the underdog, staying focused. I think the biggest difference mentally in this set was Winston was playing consistently at his level, not trying to go for too much, whereas Trey was going too big and missing. @Winners-Only, do you ever play people who call you out for foot faults? Your back foot definitely goes over the line pretty often. I wouldn't care, but I could see some people calling it out.
Trey's serve reminds me of Goran with how he stays low and explodes up through the ball. He should drill the crap out of serve +1, his serve is going to put him in a lot of spots to be aggressive with that next ball.
Trey is definitely a 4.0, even if his rating hasn't caught up yet. A 3.5 against 4.5 should really be 0-8, maybe 1-8 if the 3.5 gets a lucky game. Not only was this 3-8, but the games and rallies were all competitive. True 3.5s that have weapons like Trey has miss WAY more than he does, and the ones that miss less than he does have absolutely no weapons to speak of. Fun watch.
Trey is no 3.5. As a 4.0-4.5 I have bageled 3.5s across the North East and Midwest, his shots, serve, movement are all great. He’s easily 3.75+ or in other words a strong 4.0. 3.5 rating implies between 3.01 and 3.50, no way he falls in that bracket, no chance he is getting bageled by 4.0s in a regular match. Most 3.5s cannot control ball depth and direction like Trey, let’s not even get into the serve, he serves like he’s a 4.5 it’s laughable he only started playing like 15 months ago. If he started as a kid he might have been a college level player, true natural!
Trey you're 3.5 because you didn't realize you should serve and volley with that monster serve of yours. Just concentrate on volley game and you should be great
well, played quite good here, I'd say focus on these options 1. develop that second kick-serve to the level of 95% consistency, meaning 1-3 double faults a match 2. backhand slice - non-existent right now 3. net game - non-existent now if you add these items at the forehand level, you easy get to high of 4.0
My favorite shot from Trey was actually this down the line backhand on the rise @4:48 Winston, do you think the “quality” of ball against 3.5/4.0 players made it harder to find a rhythm? It’s a lot more variable.
Trey has an advanced serve for a 3.5. Needs to watch his foot faults but overall well done. The rest of his game will come with time and more practice and match play.
Watched a few of your videos now and I’m really enjoying your channel. My question for this video would be why you didn’t take advantage of short balls more often. Most balls hit in the are of the service T are ones I will pounce on and come in behind. Were you just playing it safe or is that not something you like to do? Keep up the great work! Trey looks like a 3.99. Big serve when in. General rule in tennis is that the less experienced player will drag down the more experienced players quality than vice versa. (Side note) this is why the consistency of the big 3 in the ATP history is so admirable. They not only had to win enough against each other but get past tricky players in all the early rounds of tournaments. Winston probably found it allot more challenging to deal with the slower groundstroke pace than he is used to, which disrupted his rhythm a bit. Good video!

Great serve for 3.5. Two things i'd recommend working on to get to 4.0 is hitting high balls and movement/keeping feet more active.
That's hack of a serve for a 3.5 player, except foot faulting 80% of the time though.

110 sq inch is better for older players who may need extra power and a bigger sweet spot from the racket. Otherwise I would stick with a 100 sq inch

With that said, their game revolves around that and at that level it can get them a lot of cheap points and wins. The rest is not there yet, the volleys and the backhands are severely lacking. The forehand can spray, and the shot selection is not crisp.
Is Trey a 4.0 now? No, he's not. He's an above average 3.5 player simply because of his serve and movement.
Can he get to 4.0? Yes, and will very likely continue to improve his game with time.

Massive improvement from Trey. I think both players here suffer from poor footwork on groundstrokes, I know I do as well so its easy to spot. Looking at Karue and the #1 UCLA player, you see they are never wrong footed and hit every ball with crisp precision. Must feel great to be able to do that on command.
Winston great explanation. When you play against the lower levels, it's more pressure, and your level drops to their level.

One thing will help Trey’s serve better is to correct his right foot not to step ahead of his left foot during serving. A coach might be able to help him.
Trey - great serve, solid groundstrokes. Take a tiny bit off your second serve to increase reliability. Move Winston around the court more - too many center court shots. Keep it up!
treys serve is actually really good. with improvement around his ground strokes and softer hand at the net he will be really good

Great match! I thought Winston started a bit nervous but then really started playing really well. I could totally see his different mindset of not being the underdog, staying focused.
I think the biggest difference mentally in this set was Winston was playing consistently at his level, not trying to go for too much, whereas Trey was going too big and missing.
@Winners-Only, do you ever play people who call you out for foot faults? Your back foot definitely goes over the line pretty often. I wouldn't care, but I could see some people calling it out.

Trey's serve reminds me of Goran with how he stays low and explodes up through the ball.
He should drill the crap out of serve +1, his serve is going to put him in a lot of spots to be aggressive with that next ball.

Trey is definitely a 4.0, even if his rating hasn't caught up yet. A 3.5 against 4.5 should really be 0-8, maybe 1-8 if the 3.5 gets a lucky game. Not only was this 3-8, but the games and rallies were all competitive. True 3.5s that have weapons like Trey has miss WAY more than he does, and the ones that miss less than he does have absolutely no weapons to speak of. Fun watch.
Trey is no 3.5. As a 4.0-4.5 I have bageled 3.5s across the North East and Midwest, his shots, serve, movement are all great. He’s easily 3.75+ or in other words a strong 4.0.
3.5 rating implies between 3.01 and 3.50, no way he falls in that bracket, no chance he is getting bageled by 4.0s in a regular match. Most 3.5s cannot control ball depth and direction like Trey, let’s not even get into the serve, he serves like he’s a 4.5 it’s laughable he only started playing like 15 months ago. If he started as a kid he might have been a college level player, true natural!
Trey you're 3.5 because you didn't realize you should serve and volley with that monster serve of yours. Just concentrate on volley game and you should be great
well, played quite good here, I'd say focus on these options
1. develop that second kick-serve to the level of 95% consistency, meaning 1-3 double faults a match
2. backhand slice - non-existent right now
3. net game - non-existent now
if you add these items at the forehand level, you easy get to high of 4.0

Trey has an advanced serve for a 3.5. Needs to watch his foot faults but overall well done. The rest of his game will come with time and more practice and match play.

Trey handles pace and spin too well to be a 3.5. He is a 4.0 in a lot of places and with a little bit more refinement can be 4.5

Watched a few of your videos now and I’m really enjoying your channel. My question for this video would be why you didn’t take advantage of short balls more often. Most balls hit in the are of the service T are ones I will pounce on and come in behind. Were you just playing it safe or is that not something you like to do?

Trey looks like a 3.99. Big serve when in. General rule in tennis is that the less experienced player will drag down the more experienced players quality than vice versa. (Side note) this is why the consistency of the big 3 in the ATP history is so admirable. They not only had to win enough against each other but get past tricky players in all the early rounds of tournaments. Winston probably found it allot more challenging to deal with the slower groundstroke pace than he is used to, which disrupted his rhythm a bit. Good video!
