This song was written during the Great Cultural Revolution in which many young intellectuals were forcibly sent to remote rural areas for '' second education''. Rough translation: I have gone to Tarim, farewell my beloved ones. Farewell my wishes which accompanied me through my life. I will work without feeling tired in Tarim. I will wrap you up with flowers if you come to Tarim. Farewell my wishes and beloved ones.
This song is sad but towards the end you can feel the hope and courage.

Such utter BS. The singer misses Tarim because he is a Uighur and misses his home area. Uighurs are from Tarim, not forcefully moved there.

Johann Brauer, You misunderstand: young privileged Han intellectuals from Beijing and Shanghai, were sent to remote areas such as XinJiang to learn to work in under-developed and impoverished regions, and to learn ethnic minority cultures --- so that when they come back to Beijing, they can have a more broad and more rich understanding of the country and of the world.

We have a similar topic folk song, arrenged by Bartók Béla "Elindultam szép hazámból" "I left my country , the famous small Hungary, I watched back from my half way, my tears were overflowing." I filled similar when listening to this music. Its really very nice.

Aslı Coşkun This language is same as our language Balooshi or Balochi we are Baloch people living in sistan balochistan..... like the word (arzu) we use it also as wish in our language and (Gül) we use this as flower and ( Yarey) we use it as friend or lover .... so its not a big difference i think and i love the way they sing or talk its so nice to hear

"beloved ones'' should mean ''a lover'' in this song. Plural terms in Uyghur sometimes refer to singular objects. It is a very delicate grammar. Maybe I should have translated it as '' a lover''.
I could say more about this song. I know the people from that era and they love this song mostly because they can feel it with their own experiences. Young people now love it mostly because it is kind of romantic:-). Strangers love it because it is beautiful and touching at least in terms of melody.

You are not either. Ancient turkic people were driven to middle east by Tang Empire. Uygurs' ancestor lives in Xiyu under control of Tang Empire. As for turk of nowadays, just some mixed-blood bastards. Another word, you have nothing related to Uygurs, except some similarity of language, Understand?

One of my favourite renditions of this song, I love how it incorporated the pipa (for right of the stage), which is a traditional Han Chinese instrument, into this Uyghur song (did you know that this song was originally written by a Uyghur composer and arranged by a Han musician?). Parhat has an extremely magnetic voice, and he won national 2nd place in the Voice contest in China this year. This really captures the essence of Xinjiang: unity and inclusiveness, people of all ethnicity coming together in perfect harmony to create beautiful music, so let's just enjoy the music and screw all the politic talk.

This song first came out in early 80s when I was in high school. Reportedly it was created and performed by someone who was sentenced to served in the notorious prison in the Taklamakan desert in Tarim Basin. China built the Tarim prison styled after the Siberian Gulags of the Soviet Union. Tarim was selected as the ideal place for the prison, which is allegedly the biggestin China, because it is remote location in a harsh and unpopulated desert just as Siberia was chosen for the same reason for the Soviet gulags. The text of the song says, I am going to Tarim River Valley, good bye my friends and loved ones. I will work day and night there (it is labor through reform camp).

Thank you. You should not be impressed by that, cause I am one of them.
And about Uyghur alphabet, it is a modified form of Arabic.
You are right in depicting Uyghur culture, but it is also very unique.
    Have a good week.

All of those crazy people posting here trying to politicalize this page please be aware, Perhat and his wife are secular muslims, they support the unity of Xingjiang and Unity of China. People like them just want every ethnicities in Xinjing living in peace and prosperity, and maintaining traditional culture, not some ancient tribal or ethnic conflicts, central Asia had plenty of those, no need to repeat!
