A very good look at the QCX Mini! I just bought a used 20m mini and I am awaiting its arrival. I was seeking out info about the QCX Mini when I found your video. And your video is a good primer for this little rig. Many thanks and 73! dit dit

I wrecked mine...My mate Chris is trying to resurrect it from the dead. Han's make awesome and very affordable kits with very educational support material. His QDX digi-mode transceiver is awesome...I built it and it works well 5w QRP output on 4 bands! He also does transponders for high altitude balloon transponders and support for tracking them! I'm a fan boy....Eye support e.g. a good magnifier is essential. Great video subbed! de VK2AOE.

Just found your video and just found George’s comment.
      It’s been that long. Wow
I finally cleared the JCM600 off my bench, while I wait for caps (and some parts for George)
So after I get the Fender amp working, the Peavey Valve King and a couple of Ashton (Thrashton) Viper amps going, I’ll be hitting the radio gear pretty hard
The guitar amps take up a lot of space, so that keeps the Minister for Finance, Entertainment and Shoes happy
Still have to drop the microwave switch chips in the old Xiegu X108G preamp circuit.
And there is the old FT101B where B is for Boat Anchor. Too many projects.

@@houseofhamradiofantastic news, thank you! I have found set up and breakdown videos help me develop my shopping list 😂. Oh and they also show me different set ups and what works in different scenarios and frequencies. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my comment and also making videos that help share your knowledge. I have found the amateur radio / HAM community to be one of the best for inclusion and helping people with less knowledge

..and a CW reader as well. I'm sorry, I noted you said that right up front. I would add this to your recommendations: after a beginner has built a Pixie or Frog Sound or similar cheap Chinese kit, they should build a QCX Plus kit. It's virtually the same same circuit and there's the challenge of winding the T1 coil plus doing the LPF coil adjustments as well! The QCX Plus has much more room and is a "real QRP radio. After building that, they Mini will be more familiar.

@@houseofhamradio Thanks for checking on your computer.
A lot of videos (not nearly all) that I want to watch have audio that's almost undetectable. A lot of other videos are loud enough that I can decrease the volume on my computer and still hear the audio of those other videos really well.
I've watched several videos telling how to get my audio up with Settings and have followed every step exactly with zero improvement. All my computer settings are already set to the maximum.
I turn on comments a lot, but naturally that doesn't help my computer volume. ha ha ha
I was hoping someone could tell me what is the problem and how I can solve the low audio on so many videos. It's a real puzzler to me.
I'm on a brand new machine at the moment, but the same thing happens on my older computer, too.
All else I can think of is to get an amplifier to plug into my headphone jack.
Again, thank you for checking on your computer and for replying.

@@houseofhamradio I thought about sending this to a friend of mine in Brasil, but the price of sending it is 3 times the price of the kit heheh.
We started together on the radio. We had a DX team. Me and Him were the CW guys. We stopped with radio when the propagation got too low to do any DX. I could return to the hobby since I'm in Canada and rig is affordable but in Brasil... a second-hand old radio costs basically the same as a car... This kit would be great for him, especially because there every ham has a yagi, wire antennas are not a thing there, so he could get some good DX.
I may buy one to give him when I travel back there hehe

    • @houseofhamradio
      @houseofhamradio  2 года назад

Currently 17m is as high as the kits go. If you email Hans and QRP Labs he might be able to tell you what you would need to mod to do 11m.

    • @houseofhamradio

It says matching unit as it can be built several ways. 1:1 Dipole, 9:1 Random Wire or 49:1 EFHW. Adam's instructions are very good no matter which way you want to go.

@@houseofhamradio I looked for some very light weight sota kit and most of other options were far too big/heavy. With all the hiking/winter gear and me not being the youngest now I’m sure I’ll enjoy it. QCX mini for hf and ft-70d for vhf/uhf, some diy antennas and I’m all set. Can’t wait to get building. Hopefully one day we’ll bump into each other on air 👍
