      Chaps name is mike pollitt, and also between the seats is Dave Thomas, both instrumental in getting 558 airborne. Dave Thomas delivered her to Bruntingthorpe and was copilot on the first post restoration test flight.

    This is wellesbourne air field, I used to past this beautiful Vulcan regularly and if you were lucky, you'd see them banging it down the runway! What a sight to see! This air craft was way ahead of it's time!!

    I served at RAF Scampton in the early 80s and was always in awe of the mighty Vulcan. Experiencing a 6 Vulcan scramble is something else and the aircrew were always relaxed and super cool.

    I saw a vulcan flying a few years ago, there was an air show in or near Bristol UK and the thing is huge. Must have been its last flight or something but too see one in the air is amazing. I get to see a lot of flyovers because I live right next to the airbus airfield and rolls Royce. Last week I saw the airbus A380 I think it's called the one that looks like a whale 🐳.

    It's a shame it can't fly but great they are keeping it alive. I seen 2 Vulcan's sitting in fields. I missed a chance to see this one fly, it had a faulty fuel pump last minute and canceled it's show.

    45 minutes of checks u less you press the little red button after climbing the ladders then there's no aircraft on the planet that starts quicker

    • @Hihellohihellogoodbye
      @Hihellohihellogoodbye 4 года назад +2

      for the scramble start, back when in operation it would have required the aircraft already being fully electrically powered up with, the flight engineer would already be on board, when the scramble call is given, the rest of the crew would rush to the aircraft, go through the scramble start up procedure, which involves starting all 4 engines in rapid succession, within 4 minutes they're off the ground.

    It was such a pity that these beasts are no longer flying. From the rumours I have heard, the Doncaster based Vulcan could still fly, it was down to the chief executives and they’re gigantic pay packets that ended its flying days.

    • @riggers6214
      @riggers6214 5 лет назад +1

      Not sure that's the case - strictly down to CAA regulations for "complex military aircraft" and the fact that the airframe was out of FI (Fatigue Index) - which basically means that critical structural components like wing spars and flying surface attachment points had reached the end of their safe fatigue life and "could" theoretically fail. 90 odd tons of aircraft hitting the ground, buildings or even worse, spectators, at several hundred knots, wouldn't go down too well.

      o c From what I have read they were initially painted in anti flash white as they were designated as high altitude strategic nuclear bombers, after the U2/Gary Powers incident their role change towards one of being more a low level attack bobmber so they started to be painted in the traditional camouflage on top and grey on the bottom scheme. Some were painted all over in a camouflage scheme for example during the Falkland War and when acting as enemy aircraft in war exercises.

      Costs too much to keep old planes in the air when its difficult to find spares which are no longer being manufactured. Ditto with old televisions, its almost impossible to find the old vacuum tubes. Wouldn't you rather spend your resources on a brand new high definition wide screen monitor instead of a twelve inch black and white picture tube?

      @@ronclark9724 No, I'd much rather spend the money on getting an old set up and running again. I don't like flat screens. I prefer a bit of a softer picture than something crystal clear, easier on the eye for me, plus theres the enjoyment of restoring and repairing them

      Jack Preslin Money. It was introduced in 1956 believe. It's an old, old plane and costs a lot of money to maintain and fly. It's easily one of my favourites and it was brilliant to see the XH558 a few years ago.

      Old and complex technology. Airworthy certification no longer possible as the current generation do not know enough about this cold war tech. No air cert... no fly.
