Hovak has jsut the right amount of seriousness and light heartedness. If you are too serious, you will kill her fun, and then she will learn to hate it. It's easy for him simply because she learns so fast. She is goofing around but at the same time she is goofing around, her brain is also processing it. It's a gift from God make no mistake. 3 years playing and she is already at the level of session bassist (i.e. a pro). That is incredible! There are guys that have been playing for 20 years and can't play THAT clean.
Having done lots of home recording on prehistoric equipment and only one professional session in a studio, the technical advances that permit a session like this are nearly mind-boggling. Ellen's raw talent at knowing exactly where her father wants her to come in is as impressive as her playing. Her patience and desire to get it right are amazingly adult while she remains a little girl. I was a little sad to know that she barely cracked a smile for the first 7 minutes, having watched many of her younger videos. I knew it would happen sooner or later, but the happy-go-lucky Ellen is slowly giving away to a more professional musician. Thankfully the very end of his video rescued it for me. There was the old goofy Ellen and I mean that in the nicest way. You are still a joy to behold.
(from Germany) Yesterday I discovered these videos of Ellen. The whole evening I saw the videos. And today evening again. I thoght the same than my previous speaker. Dad: Please be carefull. When the smiling fades, release her, until SHE comes and says: "Dad, what's wrong? Let's do something!"
Hovak said watching Ellen record is like watching him do it, so now I'm picturing Hovak making funny faces at the camera and shaking his head back and forth to feel his ponytail whip around. 😄
for us who have never been in a studio before and dont really understand the process this was very educational ... Ellen is very luck to learn all of this from a young age
When she's a little older and more grown into the biggest basses she's got, she could do Summer session work. Fellow musicians would rave about how dedicated she is and what joy she brings to the studio.
I'd fire that guy! EVERY thing she played was more than good enough! Bullshit! on his "reasons" ...fug it! She's gonna get scars Fun is more important than imaginary sound-guy bs with his "magic gear" and buttons! She had it on the first take!
Ellen's great but she has her family to thank for nurturing her musical interest as a baby and helping her choose the right instrument. It took years of devotion to do that. And more years to hone her talent. Having fun is great but she clearly wants to make a career being an especially talented bassist. And her dad is helping her do that, probably better (at this stage) than anyone else could. Kudos to both of them.
@@guitaleleoeuvrefor a start, he's her dad, and it's his studio. And as a bassist and studio producer myself, I can assure you, no, she didn't play it perfectly everytime. Now, within the DAW he could have time aligned individual notes manually, but she's sat right there, by teaching her to hear where she messed up and immediately rectify the problem, is actually really good ear and muscle memory training for her. Any good Sound Engineer, should have the skillset to simply say, "play it again". Believe me this normal practice in any studio, no matter how famous you are or not.
This connection between father and daughter is loving and supportive to see. There's a sweetness to see how he's patient with her to help her follow rythym and the progressions and she shows her love, respect and focus on the work. Well done to both! ❤❤❤❤ Language means nothing when there is the language of music and love together.
I just love how Ellen is musically AWARE. She LISTENS FIRST and plays second. Also, I notice how she can go easily between open strings and fretted strings. She is a master at muting and clean playing. That's VERY impressive.
This was an absolute joy to watch. The thing that never ceases to amaze me is how Ellen can goof around the way she does, yet still manages to take in everything Hovak is telling her to do, then she just does it. That is an art in itself.
That is such a talented young lady she is adorable as well. The amount of talent she has at 11 is unreal she is going to be so good when she is an adult. She will probably be one of the best bass players by the time she is a young adult! Keep up the great playing young lady you are amazing!
Hey Hovak, thanks for the recording process demonstration. It was very informative. I LOVE how Ellen smiles, laughs, and goofs around but when that record light goes on, she's all business. Very cool!😊❤
My wife teaches music so I get to hear a LOT of how some kids have the talent AND interest in making music and put the effort out to make it happen. It's what makes teaching a worth-while effort. It takes a lot of work as we can see here.
I loved my dad dearly but it would have been nice to experience having these kinds of musical experiences with him. She’s a very fortunate child, surely she will look back on this fondly when she grows older…
Ellen is so amazingly patient and good spirited through that whole session! Most people would have been frustrated with all the stops and corrections. Her attitude is so great to see. She is also so funny without saying one word. Hovak, you are such a good coach and great dad, congratulations. I can't wait to see what the years bring!
Love this father daughter relationship, his attention to detail and Ellen’s ability to understand and bring through what her father is teaching her is…Amazing. Good job guys
love how you are completely confident that Ellen will nail whatever it is you are asking her to do. Maybe not the first time, but you know she will do it. And I would love to see the recording process for all of the guitar parts as well. Thank you for being such an inspiring family!
This is what i call quality time between a father and his daughter. Ellen is clearly at ease, they are teaming up and she listens with respect to the advise he gets. Her father shows great patience with her and doesn't force anything. These two demonstrate a level of professionalism that would put to shame a lot of famous bands out there. I hope that a lot of parents out there are taking notes, this is clearly not an entitled child, and the only problem she may cause is the further deafening of their neighbors. I need to check out the rest of the videos, see if Ellen has covered some Maiden songs. Up the Irons!! Two thumbs up.
Ellen and Hovak , That was amazing to see the work involved in a recording session to make sure everything is perfect involves a lot of patience but the finished product is certainly worth the effort Ellen is charming and is a joy to watch. There are a few glitches in the video but overall I loved it thank you guys for taking us behind the scenes of a recording session loved it.
It's a lot of fun to watch. It shows me that there will be no good result without you working hard. That's life. keep up and you will be kept up. Blessings
I love how you are serious and also having fun playing. I have seen the growth in your playing. I notice how you are now muting the string with your right hand (you move your thumb as you play the higher strings). You are an inspiration for everyone that wants to play music. Keeping growing and having fun.
I would totally use Ellen as a studio bassist she learns so quick and understands the nuances of the piece! Fantastic job bravo young lady as always you astound me and as a musician of 40 years you have my utmost respect god bless and never stop chasing your dreams they will come true!!
You know I've been following Ellen's progress since the beginning. As a fan. I'm extremely proud of her and her accomplishments! I'm very impressed, she's a fast learner and has an ear for music! I know you're extremely proud and happy! Such a talented little person! I love the father daughter connection, she's awesome! Keep up the good work! Fame is only around the corner! Hugs! ✌️😎❤️🎶💯
It's been so incredibly long since I was in a studio and nothing is the same at all, except having to start on another take. But getting the song right is still the thing.
WOW, Ellen's musical talents have grown so much since I started following your You Tube channel. That was a "kick butt" bass line. Keep kickin' musical butt and takin' names! Ellen it is so much fun watching your learn and grow in your music and in life. Keep Rockin' young lady and have fun too! The daddy daughter interaction is so cool, appreaciate both your musical talents.
Such discipline. She takes the feedback so well. Me at that age would have stormed out of the room in a rage after having to redo the bits again and again.
This studio recording work is a deeply diligent and intense process. Ellen is simply amazing for such a young musician. All power to her! The end result sounds great!!
Very good job Ellen ! The guitar work in that song must have been done by Dad ! My son and his band love the recording process. They are working on their 2nd CD. They always sound EXCELLENT !! Thanks for sharing !!
Ellen, I am so proud of you. I’ve said this in previous videos, you are becoming a true phenom at your craft. Dad, I have the utmost respect for you to share this and do this Ellen. Congrats to both of you.
Thank you both for an amazing time with you! You my friend are one of the best guitarists I've ever heard! Now you show your daughter the way on the strings! She's a beautiful young lady and makes me smile all the time! I needed that. Thanks again
wow so awesome so much more in depth her learning is then i thought it would be , incredible her dad is a great teacher indeed. also you can see she really enjoys playing and having fun.
Ellen's is all business! Love her focus. As I teacher, I love that you have raised her multi-lingual. That is such a wonderful thing to have for many reasons. I love your "focus" comment. It makes me laugh because I used that word with my students so often in computer class. I'm retired now and watching Ellen is like being in class again! it also takes me back as a dad to when my "little girl" (now in college) was that age. I miss it often. Cool stuff. Watching her hands on the neck of the bass during that guitar solo at the end just makes me smile!!!!! Kids need to move.... Have a rockin' day!
You are both amazing as musicians and as artists (a real identity), with this wonderful link father/daugther. Great Job, this was a pleasure to see this recording video !
Thank you for this video in which you let us experience the difficult process of recording a song. Not only are you an exceptional father, but you are also a master at teaching a young talent the difficult processes required to get a perfect shot at such a young age. In just a few years, your daughter will be able to do what other young musicians can only dream of.🎸❤
On this one, Ellen is put to work like a true profesional studio musician. This kind of job is not only about playing proficientry your instrument. is about being very precise and consistent (is mandatory to have perfect timing) to deliver the best musical performance. her father is acting as a recording engineer and music producer at the same time. They both are very focused on the job. (well ellen can´t avoid to goofing around a Little bit). So cool to see both speak in armenian.
Sir, your professionalism and setup are on such a grand scale. It is AMAZING to me, that ellen has such a place and teacher to get her up to speed, in a professional atmosphere. I love each of your vids and seeing Ellen go so far as fast as she has. She is so good, and so are You, sir ! 👍
I absolutely love seeing Ellen smiling and loving life in almost every video. But the painstaking process of of perfecting her skill is also very necessary. I love seeing you two working so hard so that one day, probably soon, she’ll be selling out large venues! ❤️
Incredible video HOVAK AND ELLEN. It is a very tedious process. But always a please watching that awesome smile from Ellen. HOVAK I Know you are very proud of Ellen. Thank you for sharing her with us. I would be honored to meet you guys in person one day. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible day. Much love
Wow, that was awesome!! Great job Ellen and Dad! I think it's about getting into that groove when recording to be able to capture those precise moments and timings within the song which can be challenging at times. I love being in the studio trying to capture what I have in my head and put it down. You 2 have the magic and it looks real fun too. Ive seen most of your videos and Im always excited to see what yall are doing. I appreciate both of you and as a guitar player, it keeps me inspired to keep playing. My prayers Hovak are that the good Lord keeps your family safe and blessed and thank you for sharing and what you are doing Ellen, Hovak and mom!
Great Work Ellen! I love the hard work and wonderful special time between you and your father - memories for a life time - all the best to you, your father, and all your loved ones! :)
You guys make an amazing team. I'm loving the discipline along with the fun you're having along the way. Ellen, your love for what your playing always shines through, even when it's all business. I see comments about perfection and feeling more, but at this point it's about doing it right, the personal flare and style will come as you mature with your playing. And there's nothing wrong with having a push to be the best you can be. ❤❤❤
What a lovely duo you too are❤ Ellen is such a sweet kid☺ And you as a father are very kind. You provide criticism to your kiddo without being at all mean or belittling which some men are not very good at doing. You help her improve her sound and technique without making her feel bad which is so awesome. Because I have seen with my own eyes how some fathers can be absolute jerks to their own children when they are not being perfect. It's really not fair to the child. You guys are awesome! I really enjoyed watching this session. I love you two!🥰
That sounded amazing I am very impressed with Ellen's bass playing she's getting better and better everytime looking forward to hearing the whole thing
Well, What can I say?..Thank you so much for sharing with the world these amazing talents you too have. May you continue with the same actitud and dispositions for ever, and thank you again to both of you for this wonderful and healthy musical entertainment. Peace!!
Hi Ellen and Hovak, I got to say this was a great learning experience. Your recordings come out so crisp & clean.. Now I can understand why they come out so well. Its not just the rig set up, but all the hard work you & Ellen put in to get it right. And Ellen, you are becoming a very well trained professional musician! :0) And you got the chops to make it happen. Can't wait for the next one!!
The perfect storm. Very healthy, amazing relationship. This world would have no crime if everyone grew up in such a healthy, nurturing environment. Couple all of this with two fantastic personalities and this is what happens. Magic.
Hovak, I appreciate very much how you strive for excellence and how you've instilled that work ethic into Ellen. You have achieved an excellent balance between having fun and getting the music just right in regard to rhythm, volume, attack, phrasing and all of the other 59 aspects of getting that just right sound. Ellen is blessed to have you as her father and teacher. You're building a wonderful legacy with her. One of my grandfathers was Armenian. His last name was Koltukian. I'm proud to have Armenian heritage. Keep up the great work!
I love watching you play and record being such a profectionist, Ms Ellen (and dad 🙂). I can relate, somewhat, me being a former oboe player. Any musician goes through the practice and perfection sessions! Thank you for sharing your experience and talent with us/ me your loyal followers and prayerful supporters! God bless you Always! 🥰❤️❤️
Nice. Thanks for sharing the process. For me recording is the most boring part of the playing music. Ellen seems to make it as fun as possible, while still doing a professional job. The song sounds great.
I can hear up to a 128th of a note off rhythm but BOTH of you are correcting things that can't be more than a 256th of a beat off!!!!! Both of you are incredible! An excellent coach who knows you and drives you to be your best but is patient with you and brings out your humor and your love for what you are learning makes anything learnable to a professional degree and she has an amazing natural talent on top of that! Well done BOTH of you!!!!!
Outstanding!!! I Love watching you guys!! Brother you an amazing parent and teacher!!! The world needs so much more of you!!!!! I love hearing yall talk in Armenian.
I don't think many understand Ellen's exceptional precise rhythm and touch. It is much more than just being able to play the right notes.
Great answer 🥰
She 's awesome
@@alejandrorivas9085 the relation even is awesome
I think she may have perfect pitch, too.
Great answer, music 🎶 is more than right right notes it's about rhythm and feeling the music

I appreciate that your daughter speaks Armenian.
Bravo to Dad and Mom.
That is her First language.
Her English is perfect too.
Man, her work ethics and striving for perfection is admirable. Dad, you're patience and guidance will make her go far. Love and success to you guys
Her dad is a badass musician himself.
solid dude as a parent ! Respect! imagine this young lady at 30 or 40 or 50 and getting to relive these childhood moments again on video ..... win win
Ellen has a "Bass player's eyes".
Calm, dispassionate, focused on the thing that needs doing.
She's definitely a player!

Love this SO much! Life long memories!
I love you two!🥰
This is pretty interesting to watch. Hope to see more in future, thank you.

Peace!!
Thank you ❤️
Hi Ellen and Hovak, I got to say this was a great learning experience.
Thank you ❤️💙🧡
Amazing! I feel like I was there! Great work both of you.
Such an amazing young lady! I hope to see her make it big in the industry.
Unbelievable ❤ sooooo fortunate to have such a supportive father ! I love you both !! Big fan of the 2 of you ❤❤
And by the way; I LOVE THE SONG !! 💥
When I was younger, I hated studio recording. I always played worse in a studio than live. But it fixed by experience. She is so patient, great job.
Thank you for sharing this, watching it make me feel good! 😀
Ellen is killing it. It was awesome meeting all of you at wooten woods at jam camp.
Nice. Thanks for sharing the process. For me recording is the most boring part of the playing music. Ellen seems to make it as fun as possible, while still doing a professional job. The song sounds great.
You seem like an amazing Father! Ellen is extremely talented and bound for great things. You both ROCK!!
This was a awesome recording!
Outstanding!!! I Love watching you guys!! Brother you an amazing parent and teacher!!! The world needs so much more of you!!!!! I love hearing yall talk in Armenian.
Absolut Genius at work. ❤
Interesting to see how the Superteam works in the studio 🥰 Ellen you did a perfect job. Like your funny facts 🤪
For that to be an original that really has a nice sound very well structured rhythm has sort of an 80s vibe......👍💯
