I went to Japanese elementary school and I remember once our school went into the mountains and made a long somen slide out of bamboo halves and then we all sat by the slide to catch the noodles as they went by! One of my best Japanese school memories :)
That is a lot of sauces and same with the noodles. The waterslide noodles look like the Marble Runs when you were a kid. The waterslide noodle look really fun to play with. Making shake ice look fun, Delicious can wait to eat it because my new house have a restaurant have Japanese shake ice. Can’t wait for the next video when Ruth hike Mountain Fuji.

Commercial nagashi somen machines and shaved ice machines are widely known in Japan, but I did not know that home use machines like these were available on the market. Eating with such a machine is also a lot of fun and must taste exceptionally delicious. I hope they will be available in the U.S. mainland as well.
Nice bag, Ruth, looks so good on you! Cold noodles are a typical summer food in Japan. It is also interesting to note that each household has its own arrangement. When I was a child, I crafted bamboo and had Nagashi Somen. I made it with my teacher and we were very good at it.😊 There are several routes to climb Mt. I am looking forward to the next time to see which route you took.
That noodle slide kind of reminds me of the little waterfall on the water play table my daughter used to have. It was like a swimming pool on legs so you could play in water, but you had to fill the waterfall yourself. It was a fun way for a little kid to get wet without filling up a whole kiddie pool. As for my favorite summer food, I've always loved those orange flavored push-up pops! Good summer memories!
The only problem with somen is that it feels so light that I usually end up eating too much. If I'm eating it myself, I usually use two bundles and realize I made too much. You should try putting grated ginger in the somen sauce next time.

The soumen is really good to eat with chopped ham, cucumber and eggs. For the sauce, you add a bit of ginger paste or wasabi and some negi and it's perfect. I also found out in a not good way that make sure to read the tsuyu you buy and if it says straight ステレート means you don't have to add water in it. Other tsuyu are so concentrated it will give you kidney stones 🤣

"揖保の糸(Ibo-no-ito)" is expensive, but it's very nice somen noodles.
It's one of very popular somen noodles brand in Japan.

Btw, the つゆ/sauce is almost always concentrated, so it's supposed to be diluted 2 or 3 times with water. 😅

食事で遊ぶのはダメだけど、そうめん流しは夏の風物詩になっていて楽しいですよね。涼しさも感じられるし、夏バテでも美味しく楽しく食べられるし。私もクルクル回るだけのヤツを持っていますが、片付けが大変なのが欠点(笑)めんどクサがって、つい透明なお皿に入れちゃいます。あと、そうめん流しでは色の着いた素麺や色着きのひやむぎも流しますよ。機械が壊れないなら、ミニトマトや細く切ったキュウリやウィンナーやうずらの卵なんかも。途中で、『闇そうめん流し』って言って、チョコのお菓子やマシュマロなんか流して遊んだりします。元は『闇鍋』で、暗くした部屋で各自が持ちよった鍋の具財とは言えない様な物を、ゲーム感覚で食べると言った所から来ています。

流しそうめんに関しては、鹿児島県が全く違う食文化がある。これ、知ったの私も最近。「ラーメン屋があるみたいに流しそうめん屋さんがある？どういう事？流しそうめんの機械ってオモチャじゃないのあるの？」って感じ。
