Yeah, I was worried about that towards the end, but Nard handled it great, and brought so much joy to Herc and sis. If you can get Herc to say 'you did your homework'.....from the guy who founded the entire genre, that is highest of possible respect.
this was so dope bc 15 years ago nardwuar interviewed afrika bambataa and handed him that same bongo band record to show him that apache was recorded in vancouver, which bambataa constantly denied. so it’s amazing to see nardwuar finally get one of the founders (THE FOUNDER) to admit that apache was in fact recorded in vancouver 😂 this also comes full circle bc phil wizard whos a bboy based out of vancouver, just recently won the first ever olympic gold medal for breakdancing, so the fact that apache, which is the most classic bboy record was recorded in vancouver AND decades later a bboy from vancouver wins the olympic gold medal in breakdancing, its truly a full circle moment!
Amazing to see Kool Herc. Living legend. I had no idea Incredible Bongo Band's Apache was recorded in Vancouver. Damn. I learn something new every time I watch Nardwuar.
The breakdancer from Vancouver that went into the Olympics ended up taking the first ever men's gold. And here we have Kool Herc being interviewed in Vancouver by Nardwuar.

@@AbeM-jm8yo Which part do you disagree with exactly? Hip-hop is certainly a US creation, but it was heavily influenced by the immigrants of Jamaica coming to the US. Also (as mentioned in this YT!) a lot of that Jamaican influence moves to Canada and the UK at the same time, and taking some of those influences with them. Hip-hop was born in the US.
