Thank you for all the content you put out. I love this video and I completely agree. I’m a Kessil guy and I’ve tried radions- I was disappointed. My rock scape is in a deeper tank like yours- just my style. I’m an acro guy working on my dream tank and some of these high end lights are so expensive. I’m fighting to get ~250-70 par to my acros with reef brites and 2x Kessil 360x with the lenses. The radions were even worse for me. I love hearing about tech that is more effective for a better price. It’s weird to see some of the negativity towards a topic that is keeping people informed on lighting options especially with a hobby being so price intensive when it comes to gear. Thanks for all the info- buying one now lol.
I really appreciate the support. Yeah, I take heat whenever I raise a weakness of an Aperture branded product, especially EcoTech stuff. I think it’s partially due to fanboyism, and also partially a reaction to being told that the light you just shelled out $530 for isn’t very strong. Lol. Truth can hurt. I try not to hold it against people or take any of it to heart. I just want to show people that there are other options out there. I think it’s critically important. I was a Kessil man for a couple years, and can confirm that the A360X, while super cool as a light, doesn’t have a ton of downward thrust intensity. You might try Quanta Pro bars. I’ve got a review up on those. Luca does an amazing job. Two Quanta Pro bars generated 250 par along the top of my scape, all on their own. I’m only running the ReeFi Unos at 20% intensity day to day 😂
Dude, even I had no idea it was THAT steep of a difference. You see how much lower I hung that Radion?! It’s like 4 inches lower! 😂🤣 Oh, and here’s the wildest part that I forgot to mention. I have the widest spread “reeflector” plate installed on the ReeFi. Meaning that the light is the most spread out I could make it. It comes with a more intensity-focused reeflector plate in the box, in case you need more intensity 😂 So it could’ve been even more crazy than it was in the test!
@@kalamazoo_reefer what?! I was wondering which plate you had. That is crazy. Numbers don't lie. How did it look in person as far as just to the eye goes? From my end, the radion looked brighter and whiter. But I now video is hard to capture.
Yeah it doesn’t do it justice. It’s a G6 Pro, so tons of whites. I run my lights with all color channels 100%, no matter what light, and the ReeFi gives off a well-defined bright almost-purple with all channels at 100%, because it has incredible spectrum, and therefore lots of violet.
Great video and interesting comparison. In your video comparison, the Reefi Uno is giving me the dreaded led disco ball effect/vibes. You can clearly see the light dances around much more under the Reef Fi Uno vs. Radion. Is that because the surface agitation is higher under the Reefi Uno side you think? It's hard to say from what I am seeing. I think there is more agitation on that side at times, but the light also looks more directional to me, perhaps due to the lenses they use, which would partly explain the higher intensity and the increased shimmer. It seems led manufacturers have to choose a priority: spread vs intensity. There are only a few out there that can accomplish both well, which are typically the larger LED panel designs (i.e., ATI Stratons, Phillips Coral Care), but those fixtures require a chunk of change. None the less, very informative comparison, thanks!
Thanks for watching, brother! There’s little disco ball effect in actuality. Not just saying that. That unit is under the most turbulent portion of the tank. I’ve got both outflow nozzles agitating the surface, as well as an emergency wavemaker, and the main wavemaker on the opposite end is slamming into the overflow box too. I got the same effect with my Radions on that end. The other side (where the Radion hung for this experiment) is vastly calmer. Calmest part of the tank. You’re a metal halide guy right? This question is totally coming from a place of ignorance because I have never had the chance to use one, but do they give off any sort of shimmer or anything, or is it more of a flat look?
@@kalamazoo_reefer Thanks for clarifying. Yep, I’m back to metal halides from led, but I always enjoy these videos to stay informed for when I may want to change up lighting in the future. I'll wave off the, "It's not about power, bro," arguments. True. It isn't, but the power the Uno 2 has in reserve allows you to reduce the whites if you want and still have lots of photons flying downrange. You can tune the spectrum well and mount them high without buying additional stuff.

Especially with the trident tester for nitrate and phopshate. I feel it should of been like a 2.0. Where it was all in one. But instead if you want alk mag cal nit phos you will have to buy two tridents.. Just seems like a money grab in my opinion. But my opinion dont matter much.

@kalamazoo_reefer that may be true. They will need a drastic swing in sales to make a difference. I'll just keep preaching lower end price range products. That do the same or better for less.
While I'm not a ecotech fan boy, you are comparing a light that has been optimized for spread with a light that isn't. You should do another video comparing the spread to make it fair.
The ReeFi, at the height in this video, kicks the Radion’s teeth in for PAR even on the sand along the long sides of the tank glass. Frankly, a tank that was like a 36” x 36” cube would be better for this test. Also, the ReeFi has (3) different spread options that you can attach, in the form of their “reeflectors”, to change your spread. I’ve got the widest-spread reeflector attached, which means I actually made the intensity weaker, by choosing this. I’d say this. If you’re growing big beds of mushrooms or other softies, and you want to pay the reef tax premium, Radions will do you fine probably. But I just wouldn’t recommend them to SPS/Acro reefers who are seeking powerful intensity. Not after these results. Unless they’re augmented with a ton of other strip lighting, I guess. But even then - why pay the reef tax for less capability there?

@michaelbain6402 I added light bars alongside the Radions, so I could top 350 PAR for SPS. With Radions alone, I topped out at 275 PAR. I left the light bars on because 1. I paid for them already, and 2. because they deliver light to a greater amount of each coral’s body (good for the corals), just like they did before. Except now, I’m getting 500 PAR on top of the scape, running the ReeFi’s at 25% power - and I’ve got the widest spread lens on them, thus decreasing their intensity. Also, worth noting, the Radions clock in at $530 now. The ReeFi’s are $480 apiece, with WiFi, and a warranty triple the length of EcoTech’s. You’re caught in the hype delusion, my friend. The ReeFi’s diodes are inset into little “wells” in what they call a “reeflector”. The light comes with two swappable reeflectors in the box. These change the spread of the light.
