I feel bad whenever I watch videos of affectionate budgies. Mine has no interest in treats, and I've tried a bunch of food. She really likes cantaloupe but the only way I know is because I've put different food in her food bowl to see which one she finishes so I can use it to manipulate her later. She trusts my hand(s) in the cage, I play with her using toys and she nibbles my fingers. She has never willingly gotten out of her cage which is a good thing considering she's not trained. She's only perched on my finger once which is when she accidentally got out of her cage and was stifled and too tired to care. She lets me get pretty close to her but not enough to touch her, she gets freaked out if I try and she gets annoyed whenever I put my finger near her to touch her. Yes, I *have* been very patient, waiting for her to do her own thing and approach me for several minutes, I play with her daily, etc. She won't budge. I get sad because I feel like she loves me but isn't affectionate but I truly believe we can be best friends, of course I wouldn't force it on her and if it's just her personality then I guess I'll have to accept it. Any tips would be nice. I've owned two budgies previously so I have some experience training them

Budgie taming can take up to weeks to months.. I'm having the same problem..
try moving slowly around her and not be in her face constantly.. give her some space every now and then.. just occasionally pop your head in from time to time to check up on her.. give her time to process her surroundings.. she needs to be comfortable in her new environment in order for her to trust you.
try not to frighten her either.. think about it this way: would you feel safe if you were a tiny creature and you seen a human towering over you and sticking their hand in to grab you?
We look like giants to them because they're so small.. their eyes are on the side for a reason..
Because they're natural prey.. and their biggest fear is being hunted.
You should also try putting new toys in the cage to stimulate her.. budgies are naturally playful animals and love trying out new things.. don't leave her with the same toy everyday because eventually she'll get bored of it..
There's some videos explaining in better details that you could watch..
Hope this helps for both of us :)

One of my birds won't bond with me, but my other bird was so close to me even though i didn't tamed her. Both of them lived together,so the bird that won't trust me, started to trust as soon he saw the other budgie being so close to me :]

They're pointless to have with no interaction between pet and owner.. What's the point if your pet hates you? Not trying to be mean so please don't take it that way but, I certainly don't want a pet that doesn't like me. Why waster my time and money?

Yea, I've tried for almost a year and nothing. My bird absolutely hates me. He freaks out when I try to get near the cage to fill his food or water. Goes absolutely crazy. Always gives like a sinister grin, like head down and eyes forced up. Doesn't like my kids and all. I've watched all the videos on how to tame them, play soft music, toys, big cage. Put my finger in the cage for minutes a day like the videos say. Let him get plenty of sleep, he's always warm. You name it, I've tried it for months and months. Don't know what else to do? It's pretty pointless to even keep him. At this point, he does nothing but make an absolute mess and they are very dusty birds. Always dust, feathers and food all over the place. My wife and I are constantly cleaning up after that bird. I'd love to give him to a pet store or give him away but it was a gift for my son. He's just a nasty, mean little sh*t and I hate to say it but it's even fun having him around anymore. Doesn't bring happiness and excitement like our cockatiel used too. I've even set up a water fountain so he can bathe and nope, didn't even go near it. The thing hasn't touched water besides drinking it for.. God knows how long. Now he's just starting to smell. My house is starting to smell like an old pet shop. Any ideas or suggestions from anyone hear they'd dealt with this problem and some how fixed it or made it better? I'm all ears at this. I don't want to give up on him yet but we're pretty damn close. If it can survive in the wild, I would have let him go but that's really dangerous and wouldn't do that.

There's another bird video out there that shares the personality types of birds. Sounds like you got an anxious one. We have an anxious bird like that. If you care to have a bird that's easier to train and more affectionate, your best bet might be to pay more money for a hand fed bird from a private breeder. Pet store birds are never hand fed. The thing is you should not introduce the birds to each other until the new bird is COMPLETELY trained and trusting you. I mean not even keeping them in the same room because they are very easily distracted by each other and the new bird may rely on the old bird for interaction cues. If you introduce them to each other too soon then you could end up with two birds who don't respond well to you. If they're kept separate and you only work on training the hand fed bird you are more likely have a bird that likes you. When the new bird is trained up really well and responding consistently, etc, introduce them to each other and let them interact, but you should only interact with the trained one for a while until you see signs of interest to interact from the untamed bird so the older untamed bird can see how the trained bird behaves (but not vice versa). If the untamed bird shows interest enough to come engage with you definitely let it, but don't try to engage with it otherwise. Just interact with the trained one (tricks, holding, etc) when they're together. Truly truly avoid initiating any interaction with the untamed one when the new bird is present because the new bird may pick up cues from the untamed one! Our first bird was trained well enough but has a grumpy personality so she never liked head scratches much, and we were just starting to get the new bird to accept head scratches when we introduced them. We introduced them too early and while he did learn a few positive tricks from the older bird he also stopped accepting head scratches because he saw the older bird refuse them and he stopped letting us scratch his head (hence why you don't try to work with the untamed one while the new one can see how it interacts). The hard thing to know is the personality type because they're almost always scared at first. But if you're gonna have a shot, a hand fed bird from a private breeder is probably your best shot. It could take months but it would be worth it if you really want an interactive bird. Otherwise, we just have to accept them as is. As for your bird now, you might increase your time to 5-10 minutes of holding your hand in the cage, while talking gently to it, a couple times a day. It needs to believe your hand is allowed in the cage and belongs there too and not a threat. When/if it starts moving around the cage comfortably when your hand is present, add millet to your hand and keep it very still. It probably won't come but do it every day. Take the food out of the cage at night (leave the water) and try doing the 5-10 minutes hand in the cage with chatting first thing in the morning with some millet in your hand when it is most hungry. It may eventually come to your hand for the food. Try looking from the side instead of face forward. Face forward with 2 eyes visible = predator. Turn to have only one eye visible and do lots of slow blinks to show you trust the bird and are not a threat. Chat gently while doing this in gentle higher tones like to a baby. You just have a bird with an anxious personality and that's just the nature of the anxious ones. If he doesn't outgrow his distrust that's just him/her. Our anxious one is always gonna be less trusting even though he did eventually learn to respond. It's annoying but there's not much we haven't tried and it's just who he is.

It means he is scared, leave your hand in the cage and keep it still until he doesnt fly away from it any more. If he bites you, dont say ow or flinch because he will know biting works. Once he stops running away from your hand, put food inside it and try to feed him. It takes patience 👍
