I've never been into Swamp Thing but I hear so much good shit from the Alan Moore run and the New 52 I might have to jump on that soon.
If you like the 80s art styles, stick with the TPBs because it's got the original colors. If you got into comics recently (like 2000-) you might find the absolute versions more easy to read with the recolors
I think the John Byrne Fantastic Four Omnis and the Busiek/Perez Avengers are underrated...I feel like a lot of readers ignore stuff made before the 2000s, but I had a blast reading these. For modern stuff, I think the New 52 Swamp Thing and Animal Man Omnis are highly underrated, I don't really see anyone talk about these and these are dope af for weird horror stuff, especially when you read them together. These videos are always cool to watch, always get reminded of other stuff I want or need to buy. Thanks, Gem!
Really enjoyed byrne’s FF as well.
My 5 underrated are;
1. Weapon X The Return Omnibus
2. Earth X Trilogy Omnibus
3. The Authority Omnibus
4. Guardians Of The Galaxy by Jim Valentino Omnibus
5. Hawkman by Geoff Johns Omnibus
Cool list! I haven't read any of this except the initial Earth X series, but I would definitely buy the Hawkman if it was reprinted
Cool I own Weapon X. Haven’t read it yet but stoked to see someone mention it
Walt Simonson's Orion is so underrated.
Most underrated for me is Sleeper by Brubaker no one talks about it and it’s so freaking great.
You can't go wrong with the Brubaker/Phillips combo. I love Sleeper, back when Wildstorm was doing really cool stuff.
Man of great taste and culture.
@@nivekleveb8872 I’m not the biggest fan of Brubaker but I love Sleeper, Incognito and Gotham Central I would say are my all time favs from him.
The Brightest Day omnibus is pretty underrated. The omnibus was straight to the point and the whole arc was a great closer to the aftermath of the Blackest Night.
I actually prefer brightest day event compared to blackest night but not all of that even has been collected in omnibus format
100 Bullets by Azzarello and Risso.
These videos have been really fun to watch!
It does not have a good reputation, but The Heroes Reborn Omnibus is unironically the most-read omnibus in my collection. With the variety of characters it follows, each of whom have a beginning, middle, and end, it was like having an abbreviated version of the entire MCU in one book. The format makes it easy to skip over the parts with sub-par art, most of the series have a really fun second half, and the final Galactus story genuinely awesome.
I must also second the nod to the Solomon Kane omnibus. I can see why it isn't considered great, but I personally enjoyed it a lot.
As someone who bought Heroes Reborn in singles as they were coming out as a 12-13 year old...I thought Iron Man and FF were the best of the bunch, but Cap and Avengers get good after Liefeld and Loeb leave. I remember liking the art on most of it aside from Liefeld (I thought the Chap Yaep stuff was pretty good)...I haven't read that stuff since but the Omni looks good at least from an art standpoint from the overviews I've seen. I wish While Portacio drew all of the Iron Man run, I think the first few issues are some of his best work and seeing Jim Lee draw the FF, Doom, Namor, Black Panther, Silver Surfer, etc was a treat.
Alpha Flight Gem, underrated, you MUST read it, it's awesome
I might say I’m the only person on earth who loved Secret Wars 2 such a underrated gem 💎 lol get it. But was so good loved the Beyonder as a character to.
I'd hate to bring this omni up again but here we go. Miracleman by Alan Moore. I feel like a lot more people would have read it if they labeled it by him instead of "The Original Writer". If you like/can handle Alan Moore's work then you'll love it, but I know some people don't like his stuff. The ending is almost like a book (which I personally don't like when comics are like that), but the story is still great otherwise. The new Miracleman series is being written by Neil Gaiman right now and I think Gaiman is a perfect fit. By the end of this new run it's supposed to lead into an event that bring Miracleman from his universe to the 616
I have the hardcovers for Moore. Unbelievably great stuff. Some of it is a bit much but when there’s some really great ideas in it
Man that last issue of MM hit hard, hoping they give us a big Omni of Neil's Silver and Golden ages once it's finally done haha
@@FearMonarch Thats exactly what I’m hoping for
First Off...
Haven't watched your RUclips Channel in some time. You look GREAT!!!, Dude!
Regarding Omnibuses,
I recently purchased the "WONDER WOMAN: DIANA PRINCE: CELEBRATING THE 60S" one. I grew up on WW "De-Powered" Phase during the late 60s. And that's when I became a fan of her character. It's a FUN and Goofy trip down Memory Lane. My only complaint is the size of the Omnibus itself. I expected it to be the usual larger size that many are produced at. But I was just glad to see these stories finally collected.
Great video and you even read my comment. Really enjoying the conversation.
One question for me is how much damage does everyone accept on a book? I’m such a stickler for the book not even having a dent.
I'll still play advocate for JSA. I can understand approaching that series for new readers may present a challenge since it's a lot of characters a lot of people may not be familiar with. It may take a couple of storylines to get the group dynamics to gel. But they also make you care about characters you didn't know about. And it has one of my favorite DC villains in Johnny Sorrow. I recommend giving it a try. Also, thanks for pronouncing my name correctly. I'd think it'd be obvious to say, but you'd be surprised how many people get my name wrong. Much love.
crazy how injustice vol 1 was so awesome, and vol 2 was bad. Amazing what a writer can do 😂
Muppet Babies vol 1
DeathStroke by Christopher Priest was great
The Phie omnibus vol 1 by Gem! Underrated yo!
Animal man is criminally underrated that grant Morrison omnibus needs to be read by everyone.
Also 100 Bullets deserves way more love
Gem did you see the new Slan on Throne? It was the quickest preorder I ever made haha.
I think we need omnibus that replicate how the taschen comics big editions were produced. Matte paper and accurate coloring to the original print, but thicker than newsprint
That would be awesome, or the treatment Ed Piskor gave the reprints in the Grand Design books. I'm fine with how the Omnis of vintage material look now, but they could definitely look truly incredible. The Folio Society Marvel books have some really nice reproduction of the old comics as well.
@@nivekleveb8872 lets get all our friends to buy grand design. The foliosociety & taschen books are great, but we all know we want this treatment for close to all the comics from the past ages of comics in omnibus form!
The first injustice omnibus, is not even close to being underrated. Its one if the highest omnibus on Goodreads
Grant Morrison’s BATMAN is severely underrated. Just playin. I haven’t read enough Omni’s to weigh in yet. But I loved Marvel Knights Daredevil Omnibus by Quesada. Not sure if that is considered average or whatever, but I loved it. Short in length though.
Lights OFF in the arcade for sure
IMO Seven Soldiers and Authority Omnis.
lights on... and just overpaid for the avengers crossing omnibus. Can't wait
Injustice was incredible. You could understand each sides emotion.
I read the first omnibus, but I thought a lot of the art was generic or just plain bad. I wish this story got the caliber of artists that worked on Metal and all its evil Batman tie ins instead of a squad of jobbers and fill in artists. I get why people love the comic overall, though.
Howard The Duck Steve Gerber was a genius not appreciated enough
Gem mints I promise I’ll never annoy you again if you read Jsa
There's a couple on here I've never read. I may have to check them out
You the best
GoG by Bendis. Some great humour in there. Haters gonna hate due to the reboot. Not read the second half of the series yet.
Nancys run isnt anywhere near as loved as the Veitch run for me, but she did a damn good job for what she did. Honestly theres not a "lull" in that entire _Saga of Swamp Thing_ "run"
Howard the duck by Steve Gubber because I know nobody else will say it. As creative and weird as Gubber stuff always is in the best way with enough action and drama (some dark moments) to keep anyone entertained a Great piece of satiate for its eta
I just read every post crisis flash book and the new 52 flash run is the worst flash run of all the post crisis run. It’s not even the best new 52 run either.
Injustice 1 and 2
Batman by dini. The fact that is not the number one Batman is a crime
Star Wars Legacy Omnibus 1-3 is self-contained. All you need to know is about Luke Skywalker in the OG Trilogy. Really great series.
Are you talking about the Dark Horse paperback omnis? I would love to see Marvel do these as oversized hardcovers, this and Old Republic are my favorite SW comics
There is no Star Wars Legacy omnibus.....its my most wanted Stwar Wars omni
@@rickgear2579 There is. Dark Horse put out 3 for the whole series. Hard to find but its those mini omnis which are made smaller not larger in length. They also have plenty of paperback omni's of there whole collection which go for $$$$.
@@thegreatandpowerfuldodd640 One long story with several arcs. Its where Lucas was introduced to Darth Talon and fell in love with her so much he wanted to use her in his sequel trilogy.
@@thegreatandpowerfuldodd640 THE original series published by Dark Horse. The Story of Cade Skywalker, bounty hunter who has forsaken the Jedi way.
I would definitely say WW by Azzerello is overrated. Read it, was pretty boring and near to no character development of WW. It's more like a book about a motley crew of re imagined greek gods. Sold it when I finished it. I wasn't a fan but had such high hopes.
Same, about the only thing I like about this run is her costume. I get the appeal of Cliff Chiang's style but it's a bad fit for a superhero comic imo and I never like Azzarello's writing on a superhero comic - you can tell he has contempt for it all and is just cashing a check. New 52 Wonder Woman's best showing is in the Geoff John's and Jason Fabok Justice League issues for me.
@nivekleveb8872 yep. Liked her costume. And the cover art. Yea I thought Chiang's art was all over the show and only just over half of the book. It was a bit of a let down. Loved his work on Paper Girls, it felt far more polished.
