Daredevil: Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev. Possibly the best written work I’ve read. Bendis was a young star with fresh ideas and Maleev’s realistic style in gritty New York was a match made in Heaven.
Glad to hear this. I have those on my shelf and yet to read them. Cant wait!!
@@GZAndrew you want to start from the very first run 1998 onwards! :)
Muppet babies. It was a roller-coaster of emotions. Highs and lows, smiles and cries. Riveting mysteries and heartwarming journies not to be missed by anyone.
😂
No question: Savage Sword of Conan Volume 1. Some of the best Conan stories (Black Colossus, Iron Shadows of the moon, A Witch Shall Be Born) adapted by Roy Thomas and John Buscema. Volume 2 is just as good, with People of the Black Circle and Tower of the Elephant.
The new Batman Adventures Omnibus. And it includes mask of the phantasm. Wow! 🤩
Good to hear. I bought it with the recent print but know nothing of it really, besides seeing a few episodes of the animated. Havent read it yet
@@mormorgranat I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. 😊 This comic series ran parallel to the tv show and includes original stories (minus of course the phantasm story, which is an adaptation) 😊
On the DC side, for me it's JSA by Geoff Johns Volume 2.
It's when the run really started to pick up and it has arguably the best JSA stories such as Black Reign, Out Of Time, JSA/JSA, Stealing Thunder and many others. Each member gets their chance to shine and nobody gets left behind. It is also the Omnibus that made Hourman my favorite JSA member. Highly recommend the JSA omnibuses
On the Marvel side I have to go with the Daredevil by Bendis Omnibuses.
I could not stop reading the first volume. It got to a point where I had to force myself to stop reading because I didn't want to finish it too quickly. Just seeing Matt's life slowly crumble more and more as the story progresses was very unfortunate to see. The artwork was also really good. I do think that Brubaker's run was a great follow up at first but at some point it got a bit too depressing for my taste.
For DC I'd say Animal Man by Lemire. I couldn't put it down and just when I thought it couldn't get anymore crazy, it did. For Marvel I'd say Daredevil by Soule. If you love the show you'd love this book
Stoked because I own the Soule Daredevil! Currently reading amazing spider man vol 1. Loving it
That animal man was top tier.
Sleeper by Brubaker is awesome. Preacher, 100 Bullets, Walking Dead, and Starman technically is in omnis, but it deserves the full omnibus treatment. And probably the most underrated superhero team book: JSA by Johns in 3 omnis.
Clicking for the thumbnail. The Long Halloween got me into comics as an adult
still working on the collection, but the Y omni really hit me in the feels. I just get the urge to just open it and look at it and put it back every once in a while
You need to do more of this free-flowing dialogues. Good stuff.
I like it so much more. Feels way more natural
Savage Sword of Conan: The Original Marvel Years Vol 1. Roy Thomas, John Buscema, Barry Windsor-Smith, Alfredo Alcala and others adapting Robert E. Howard tales. It doesn't get any better than that.
Fables would be a contender, if there was one.
My favorites:
Deadpool by Gerry Duggan
Injustice
Sin City
Venom by Donny Cates
It’s been a while but the last one I read was the “Paper Girls” Omni. I absolutely loved it. A real special time in my life. Fall days, drinking warm coffee, powering thru this book. A vibe and a read I’ll never forget. It’s been a minute since I’ve read an Omni tho. I’m in the middle of Ice Cream Man hardcover Omni but I’ve been half way thru it for a year and some. I really want to give the “Saga” Omni a read too! That’ll be the next one I think I’ll delve into
fan of these community posts videos.
For me, it's Aquaman by Geoff Johns. It's got a special place in my heart because it's the first Omnibus I brought and the first video I saw from you was the review of the Omnibus. No prior backstory, awesome art and only 75 dollar cover price. A book for everyone and a good example for this format in my opinion.
What’s funny is, I think I was wearing this same hoody in that video
@@GemMintCollectiblesOh damn thats right, just like 50% sexier now
Always love seeing the comments on these
I really liked the differing opinions on this. I got into omnis because of this channel and others like it a few years ago. Saying to myself "wtf is an omni?" Now I own aroud 350 of them and is my go to hobby.
Of the 350 I probably read around 260. Most of it being the important stuff good or bad. I do have a top 3 if I can cheat a lil. No paticular order but Cosmic ghost rider was AMAZIN! Loved that omni! I gotta throw in no mans land. All three omnis. Was shocked at how good it was. The one I may get heat for is the Dan slot Silver surfer omni, that I actualy got from Gem on whatnot. Everything I was reading at the time was dark and intense, so the lighthearted wholsomeness hit at the right time. Loved the ending. Super fun read!
Transmetropolitan by Warren Ellis. One of my FAVORITE Comics EVER made! i read it once a year its that good. Always surprised when people tell me they never heard of it. Masterpiece imo
I just wish we could get the Absolutes one day. :(
@@Terraglitch Pretty sure there is one... "Absolute transmetropolitan 1-3" Check it out.
@@mrbeans2425 What I think he means is that they are out of print and very hard to find.
@@serbiansauvage oh yes, they are very hard to find!
@@mrbeans2425 Always oop. :(
Love Tim Sale's artwork so his Batman omni was my first ever omni
I'd have to say Loeb/Sale Batman was awesome. One of the only ones I have read multiple times. Surprisingly the Predator Omni Vol 1 was a great read, wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. And the 3 Punisher Ennis Omni's were all great
Good video! They did make a Locke & Key omnibus. They call it a HC compendium but it is same size and fits with Marvel and DC omnibus.
Amazing background, man!
I don't have enough experience to know for myself what would even be my top 3 omnis. But, based upon some speculation I think it would have to be either focused stories or team based stuff.
Gotham central
Ultimate spiderman vol 1
Saga. Holy shit it’s so good even if the collected books aren’t technically an Omnibus
Yeah Batman by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale is evergreen. I feel Like Avengers by Hickman and Venom by Cates are two of my favorites. Injustice still in my top though.
Hellblazer is my overall favorite Omnibus. Savage Avengers was the most fun, but plot was just the basic beat ‘em up story. The best event for me Batman No Man’s Land. Gotham Central was awesome too.
I kinda agree about the loeb sale omni...definetly my favorite DC omni. I think for marvel omnis....either Spider-man vs Venom or Uncanny X-Force as far as manga Berserk deluxe editions and for euro comics Metabarons.
Gotham Central is really good. It takes place in batman's world and he's barely in it. Great stuff!
Not sure if someone mentioned it: Journey Into Mystery by Gillen. Fantastic stories of kid Loki.
Big Damn Sin City, if we can count that as an Omnibus, would be my favourite probably. If we count absolutes and similar, I'd say Hellboy I think
Hellboy gets a omni at the end of the month.
Yeah I own all the libraries though. Not sure what to do yet. Might buy the monster sized and keep both. It doesn't seem to be that expensive after all@@xXCigarXx
My favorite Omnibus, as in a book I picked up, couldn't put down and looked forward to opening up would have to be THUNDERBOLTS Omnibus vol 1. Love Kurt Busiek's writing and Bagely on art is chef's kiss. Second would have to be Spiderman 2099!
That was one of the most recent Omnis I finished
Last year I read every 300 issues of Hellblazer. It was a daunting task. It has it's ups and downs as any long running series will have. But it's diverse enough that you'll have to pick which writers run you like best. Highlights for me was Ennis, Azzarello, and Carey. It's a series you have to take breaks from to not get worn out on. Best way to break them up is when the author changes. The series starts out at a slow burn at first through the Delano run. But it really picks up once Ennis gets on board. The post Ennis era by Jenkins is another lull in the series, but picks up again. That's just my opinion, other people may like different arcs and yours may be different. There's enough there to like. All in all, it's a good title to read if you take little breaks in between arcs.
I did like the 1st few trades, but like you said, just got burned out quick
@@GemMintCollectibles I recommend finding your way back to it again sometime. At least do yourself the service of reading the Ennis run. The first few trades by Delano are a little abstract in storytelling. That's why it's good to take a break in between authors so you can approach them with a little freshness.
I don't know if this counts because it's not a hard cover and called a compendium, but The Walking Dead volumes 1 & 2 are hard to put down. I never watched TV show, but I love those comics. I also like Savage Sword of Conan volume 1 and I'm a huge fan of the Brave and the Bold Omni's volumes 1 thru 3(loved them as a kid and I'm nostalgic for some Jim Aparo art!)
To comment on the FF by Byrne for you Stephen, the first omni starts a bit slow because he didn't have the full control but if you get through the first couple of issues then it a 10 or something issues gap, and then Byrne gets to write and draw the stories, that's when it gets good.
Good to know, thanks.
For my ultimate Spider-Man volume 1 for marvel, loeb and sale Batman for dc and the invincible compendiums take the cake overall
That I’ve read ?
I own a small amount but I’ll give it to Watchmen. Liked it so much I also got my hands on the From Hell omnibus and Before Watchmen Omnibus.
Great video GEM. Daredevil and Darth Vader Omnis. Not an Omni but Ice Cream Man (Sundae Edition).
Yes! Ice Cream Man is one of the best series around
Can’t wait for the next hardcover
Batman Loeb and Sale is excellent, but I had to swap to the deluxe hardbacks as the omnibus fell apart
So far, for me, it’s been Bendis’ Daredevil, JMC’s Amazing Spider-Man, SW The Old Republic (Marvel), and The Dark Tower Omnis.oh and Batman from Loeb and Sale.
Hmmm 🤔 Thunderbolts vol 1. MoonKnight by Benson and Hurwitz, Blackest Night anniversary Omni, War of Kings and Sleeper
Thunderbolts is great!🤘🏿
For me the best I've read is Grant Morrisons Animal Man AND Jeff Lemires Animal Man. Turned me into a huge fan of Animal Man, also two of the best creators around
I would have to say the preacher omnibus 1 & 2 are my favorite Omni’s.
Not mad at it
Ultimates omnibus 1, by Hitch and Millar, i bought it a couple times for friends (that being said “Mad Bomb” by jack kirby)
One I’ll mention purely because I don’t think this series has gotten enough love (so consider this more “underrated” than “the overall best,”) but Bitter Root Hardcover Omnibus from Image Comics. Not only is the hardcover as TALL as an omnibus, but thicker than most at that price ($60 cover price).
It’s an INCREDIBLE story that does politics in comics RIGHT, and is even getting a film adaptation soon. A MUST-READ for anyone who likes comics
I really like all of my omni’s JSA by Geoff Johns 1-3 x-factor by Peter David many more
But I’m going to shout out Green arrow by Mike Greil vol 1 and 2 more people need to read it cause it’s incredible finished each omni in 4 days
For me Alias by Bendis from Marvel/MAX. Gotham Central and Animal Man by Morrison from DC.
Gotham Central has been the most enjoyable omni I've read
for my best omni is spiderman by jms vol 1 I adored the hell out of it
I wanna see best TPBs/Mini series, there are so many under that umberella we might should narrow it by genre.
I agree with this
Sandman/ Big Damn Sin City/ Invincible/ Gotham Central/ Preacher/ Walking Dead/ Daredevil by Bendis/ Captain America Brubaker/ Silver Surfer by Slott/ Black Hammer/ Swamp Thing by Moore and Snyder/ and Darth Vader by Gillen are some of favorites.
Hellblazer by Garth ennis
Cause idk Constantine is just the best doesn’t need a wack ass cape to be a badass
Swamp thing new 52 Scott snyder n soule omni was pretty dope
and we still need that all new x-men omnibus from bendis
JSA by Geoff Johns, especially volumes one and two. Honorable mention to Justice League International Volume one.
I’m surprised how many people liked that. I got recommended it when I was a new reader and it just didn’t hit for me.
Which one? JSA or JLI?
Prometheus Fire and Stone. It was everything I wanted from a AVP crossover. Next to Aliens Defiance, it is top tier for fans of the franchise.
No Comic-Con vids this year?
Animal Man by Morrison simp/defender here, it's worth all the praise and more, even makes it a breeze to read in the Omni.
If DC ever wants to give us Veitchs Swamp Thing run, that's going up to the top, hey there's you're next topic, what's the Omni run/collected #s you most want 🤣
Same. Morrisons Animal Man will always be my fav
Locke and key has an omnibus. Its an oversized hardcover of the entire set. Thick as an omni, size of an omni, just called a "compendium"
Bro I also used to take the tri rail to Mia airport and then had to take the metro to work.
im amazed by your weight loss every time i c u bro
uncanny xforce remender has to be up there
I only have a few omnis and havent read any because im a baby about the order im reading it
Punisher by Ennis omnis for me.
Yes. Especially the Max stuff
Yes it’s been a year and a few months when I initially got back into comics because like most people I read some comics when I was a kid but wasn’t to invested tell now. But as a suggestion I think you should do the Worst,Most Overrated and Best Absolute now. I think those would be some good videos as well. Maybe as well as most wanted.
Ah hell yea. Didn’t even think of that lol
@@GemMintCollectibles yeah I noticed alot of people were saying Saga of Swamp thing which I don’t blame them its a classic. So figured what other absolutes are peoples favorites. I know I would like to see those videos as well.
Fantastic Four vol. 1 by Stan and Kirby naturally, Marvel Knights Inhumans (Okay, thats a maxi-series, but whatever.) The series "Inhuman" I think had enough for an "Complete collection" if they would just finally release it. Sad how they were torn askew between the ending of "Inhuman", the "Royals" series (12 Iss. I think), and finally Cates, Death of the Inhumans. More than ever a reboot of the terrigen mists is deserving, and an Ultimate Inhumans would be an awesome way to go with that! Either that or my Aetheric Genome Exultation experimental idea.
On the DC side, my favorite omni is JLA by Grant Morrison, probably one of the most important runs for me as a reader, others that are very close to the top include Superman by Tomasi and Gleason, Super Sons and Blackest Night.
On the Marvel side, Uncanny X-Force is my favorite Marvel run of all time, and Ultimate Spider-Man and FF by Hickman are very close
It’s funny how we can pick a #1 from each pub… but hard to pick the best out of those
Deadpool run by Daniel way - I'll die on this hill that it's the best Deadpool run in print
I think the Captain America by Brubaker vol. 1 is the best!
I own 33 omnibuses, but have only fully read 6 of them. But I’d say my favorite so far has been Thunderbolts vol 1. Moon Knight vol 1 is a very close second.
Loved moon knight. I have 49 and I’ve only read 11 lol. The curse of the Omni collector.
@@edgysnarfbrownie5778 haha! The curse is real!
Yes, Moon Knight is great. I still have to read the Vol 2, and Marc Spector Moon Knight Omnis.
@@2ndstreetmarvel Vol. 2 gets way better. I haven’t read the Marc Spector one yet, but I’m hyped to do it.
I guess in the future i will say Kamandi but im still read it. For now i'll say Punisher max 1
52 omnibus, the standard of gold.
Started collecting omnibus 2 years ago. One of the first complete sets I bought was Morrison’s Batman 1-3! Read all 3 and have to say they aren’t as bad as some say. I love Batman in general, so who knows? Maybe I am biased. Some of the story elements were really strange and I didn’t like but I would never say I hate it. Haha. To each their own. What are main reasons why people dislike it? Didn’t see the reasons why in the comments
For me it was the fact a lot happens in issue not collected in the Omni. Like Batman dying for example.
Dardevil by mark waid vol 1 was my omnibus but Superman The Exile was my favorite.
Loved Superman Exiled. Grew up on Death of Supes and only recently lead this material leading up to it, in a sense.
My top 3
Infinity gauntlet
Uncanny x-force
Than maybe ASM vol 1 or batman by jeff loeb
punisher max garth ennis or xmen age of apocalypse
I think the reason a lot of people didn’t like Miles is because they killed off Peter and he basically replaced him.
Death and Return of Superman is PEAK
Here's a question to ask everyone for a video: Which comics deserve an omnibus?
Swamp thing by Allan Moore is probably the most long overdue.
@@edgysnarfbrownie5778 It's been collected in multiple formats but yeah, you'd think they'd have it by now. I'm sure it'll get the omnibus treatment after they make all their money on the first Absolute prints.
🤯
For me it will have to be Justice League International. Then USM and Bendis’ run on Daredevil.
Mine is Green Lantern by Geoff Johns Omni Vol 1
Currently reading this and enjoying it.
Miles Morales was a better Spider-man when he was in his own universe
as the guy in the video who mentioned miles I completely agree. the lone issue where he met Peter from 616 was awesome but when he was in the ultimate universe it was so much better. Saladin Ahmeds recent run is pretty solid but the Bendis Vol 1 omni is still the best Miles omni imo
I think I agree with this. Something changed when he came to the 616.
Infinite Crisis, for me
Speedball by Ditko Compendium
Y The Last Man.
I saw that on the worst omnibus video and I couldn't believe it. I love that run
I have an idea what about most anticipated omnibus that was a let down. For example you were so hyped for it and it was disappointing
Too many to choose just one.
I dont think IDW does traditional omnibus so these are as close as i remember to an omni
TMNT idw collections
Transformers phase 1 idw collections
Amazing spiderman volume 2 i know silver age stuff can be dated and a hard read sometimes but I feel spiderman has stood the test of time better then most other super heros and romita sr is my favorite spiderman artist
Amazing spiderman roger stern hobgoblin stories are great but i absolutely love the kid who collected spiderman story, sure it wasnt really something in cannon but was just a special story. Just was an amazing run
Captain america ed brubaker omnis
DD omnis that stretch volume 2 which is the kevin smith, bendis, and brubaker stories
Batman loeb/sale is amazing. The stories are fun and good retelling of early batman days. I an flabbergasted that someone said they didnt like sales art.
Id almost want to add walking dead too but i love both the show and the comic. I feel some characters are better on the show and some were better in comics.
Havent added many DC titles because im reading batman chronological and i havent hit many of the big stories yet, currently at no mans land so soon ill have a better take on batman omnis.
Spidey is peak silver age
Bendis Daredevil Omni. Millar Wolverine omni, and Ennis Punisher MAX
X-Men by Claremont and Jim Lee volume 2
Infinity Gauntlet
Always cool hearing your thoughts on my and others opinions in the group with topics like this, appreciate you not grilling me about my love for Ms.Marvel bro😂 Hope you keep doing these vids cause I think its super fun for us in the fb group plus the homies on RUclips who haven't joined the group. 🤟
Man I’ve always been one to understand everyone has different opinions and tastes. Just because they aren’t mine, doesn’t mean it’s wrong.
@@GemMintCollectibles much respect for being that chill not everyone thinks that way that's for sure lol and fr I hope you keep doing different vids like this cause these are super fun! :)
@@JoeArnold333I haven’t read the Wilson book, but I really did like the OG Ms. Marvel run (Carol Danvers).
Maybe one of these days I’ll give the Kamala Khan story a read.
@@2ndstreetmarvel tbh ive never read Carol but ive heard the Kelly Thompson run is amazing, Kamala is definitely different from Carol in like every way possible but her run from G Willow Wilson is really really great imo.
@@JoeArnold333 I have the whole KT run, but I stopped reading around issue 20 or so. I need to go back and finish it.
Uncanny x-men vol 1 the OG
daredevil by frank miller is my favorite overall.
DC - Injustice
OZ Omnibus by Baum Shanower Skottie Young 👍🔥🔥👍
At this point I’ve only read 2 omnis but I’d have to say Star Wars war of the bounty hunters is my fave. The other I read was house of m. The mapping just ruined it for me. The main story was excellent but the tie ins were a slog.
Shame marvel doesn't do absolutes which is the best format. Legion legacy was a great read if you like psychedelic stories like the Sandman and the Demon bear saga.
Doom patrol by Grant Morrison easily my favourite.
and morrisons new xmen is under appreciated
John Byrne Fantastic Four Volume 2
Fourth World by Kirby. 💎
Do you think I would like it as a new reader, because I’ve been contemplating getting it for a while.
@@edgysnarfbrownie5778 - It depends. It's classic Kirby - huge ideas and concepts and grandiose plots he can't quite pull off, very simple dialogue. If you're a fan - you'll love the art, even though he's definitely lost a step at this point. All that stuff has proven to be very important to DC ever since tho.
New Gods 3 was the first comic I ever purchased brand new and I was an instant convert.
