A few notes.
This expedition to Jeju was not in the light novel. As Choi said in the last episode it’s more of a reconnaissance and not a true raid. This force isn’t nearly strong enough for that.
I’m pretty positive that when he was talking to himself that was not the system but more just his inner voice. His own doubts and fears. Notice this happened after he got super weak and his vision started blurring. He also said referred to himself in the first person. This was also something new. (Possibly in the light novel I have not read that.)
They have done an amazing job adding things in, but that makes sense with the original author helping to flesh out the world and secondary characters.
