The mangaka really crafted a beautiful story about the potential humanity has to overcome it's monsters

The panel used as the thumbnail was meant to show a glimpse at that. The anime doesn't show the emotional side of the story as well as the manga or the Web Comic, though I prefer the manga because of the orgasmic art.
