I agree with you, your friend could be so fearful still, like you said. You know better than most how the JWs put a grip on your mind. I'm glad you're not taking it personal. You have been set free, he may not be yet.
I think he just might be afraid of losing some of his audience
Great message very timely indeed. I actually just had a conversation with my wife about fearing man at about the same time this video got uploaded. Yeshua is causing our minds to drastically change and pain is on the horizon for us on some decisions we are making. Short term pain, we can not go on denying the Truth. Mike, when we spoke about your interview not getting the recognition it deserved exposing the truth on your friend’s Podcast, we might consider the 10 following reasons, which is also why I’m overly cautious about exposing the truth of the trauma & abuse I experienced growing up in the JW cult. People with a large media following or career so dependent on the relationships in the community they live in may be afraid to expose the truth about growing up in a cultish religion due to several potential consequences or retributions. Here’s 10 consequences the audience might be willing to consider:
1. Fear of Retaliation: The cult or its members may retaliate against an individual for speaking out. This could include harassment, threats, legal action, or attempts to DISCREDIT the person (we have a family member who was very successful at her attempts to silence us).
2. Loss of Community: community. For someone with a large media following, speaking out could lead to ostracization from family, friends, and followers who are still part of the cult.
3. Fear of Negative Impact: There may be a fear that speaking out could negatively impact the person's career or public image. They might worry about losing followers, sponsors, or opportunities because of the controversy associated with their past.
4. Emotional Trauma: Reliving and sharing traumatic experiences can be emotionally difficult.
5. Legal Issues: There could be legal implications for exposing certain information. Potential lawsuits if the person reveals confidential or sensitive information.
6. Fear of Harm: In extreme cases, there may be a fear of physical harm or threats to personal safety. Some cults have been known to use intimidation tactics or even violence against those who speak out against them.
7. Guilt and Shame: There may be feelings of guilt or shame associated with exposing its practices.
8. Uncertainty about the Impact: There may be a fear that speaking out will not have the desired impact or could even be counterproductive. The person might worry about inadvertently promoting the cult or causing harm to others still involved.
9. Financial Loss: If the cult has financial ties to the person's career or income, speaking out could lead to a loss of financial support.
10. Personal Safety of Loved Ones: The person may fear for the safety of family members or loved ones still involved in the cult. They might worry that speaking out could put these individuals at risk.
On a very personal note, I’m grateful you had the courage to publish your book exposing the truth of the JW’s and the severe and traumatic impact it had on us and family members (I wish you would have exposed even more) 😊. It was very validating to me when I had the courage to expose the truth as a teenager. Being silenced, threatened, and sent away as a child for telling the truth about the severe and traumatic abuse we witnessed and exposing the hypocrisy of our JW family members was quite the experience for a child under 18. And, I had to pay the price losing family members and dear friends because I exposed truth. I went into hiding and you, my brother, had the courage to speak out! Thank you! ❤

Because you were there. We were in it together. But here we are. We are free. We are alive. And we are healthy. And we know how to love. The power of love held us together.
There could be several scenarios there with your podcast friend. My gut feeling too, being a former JW, is he's probably not totally out, he's PIMO, or he's disfellowshipped but he's still thinking he might go back, in any case being outted on his podcast with an "apostate" could potentially ruin his subscriber base if he has JWs subbed to his podcast. You're doing the right thing Mike by not judging him. Leave it be and keep your peace!
I don’t have the answers for him. But I can tell you I still love the guy. I’ll always consider him a brother.
