I reckon if the cameras weren't there, you would have stashed it in your shed! I'm lucky to own 2 VY Utes, a V6 & A V8 and they both get looks. I'm looking forward to this series. I did notice on the runs that the tonneau cover sagged in the back when you got some speed behind you which would have caused drag. I recommend if you can find a hard lid for it if possible.
Liking this so far. Please, please, please dedicate some screen time throughout the build covering the process of getting it engineered. From consultation through to testing. It would be great to go through the experience to see how straightforward it is for anyone who might be considering doing an engine swap as wild as this.
A 427TT is going to eclipse the power to weight formula for this car in regards to engineering approval. An aspirated 427 is too big, let alone one with twin spooly bois.
I did a single turbo ls1 conversion in my vs ute. All completed in my driveway at home. Thanks to tuff mounts it was a really simple process. You shouldn’t have too many headaches with this one scotty.
Looks like this would have been a factory 3 seater Ute with a manual based on the hand break location off to the RHS of the driver’s seat. That’s a pretty rare combo. Someone has converted it to the standard centre console. Looking forward to the build series Scotty! 💪👌👌

@ThatGuy_21 that would be alot more cranky than the flavour of our VS ute! Haha. Not sure a 2650 blown 427 would quite have the mumbo for 7s, might need a big procharger or a 4L blower for that.
A very tidy ute! Gotta love the Speedo, trip meter, "000000"!😉 An idea Scotty... Everything that comes off the ute, recycle it into repowering the Torana, while waiting on the okay for the Hemi!!
Assuming that the 3800 V6 in rear drive configuration retains the small bell housing from the 60 * engines, the all aluminum LS4 ( 5.3 ) found in ( USA spec at least ) front drive cars has the same small bell housing. The only real issue with such a swap is the LS4 does not have a spot for a starter mount, the starter is bolted to the transmission. The channel LS4 King has info for front drive stuff and got together with Moroso to make a low mount starter / oil pan conversion.
Nice, so are you saying that the LS4 could theoretically just bolt straight upto the original manual gearbox in this ute? I have the original T5 manual from my 94 VR ute which came with the Buick 3800 and it bolted straight upto my L67 swap.
Will be following this one closely, currently building a twin turbo hz tonner with a Warspeed heart/ dart block 388. Hopefully see you on the track one day 👍🏻

@STREETMACHINETV. Scotty that colour is a VS Series 3/VT colour. Shitloads of Statesman/Caprice came in that colour as they continued producing VS utes/statesmans until 2000 if I'm not mistaken. With only the VT Sedan/wagon released in 1997. The long wheelbase ute/statesman wasn't released until the VU update. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Cant BF googling it
Had the pleasure of taking the photos of this car at grays.Immediately recognised the car from the thumbnail. I had to jump it 3 times tough,the engine would cut out after 100ms
You can double clutch when changing up, clutch in and shift to neutral, let the clutch out and back in with the revs lower to slow the box, and then into the next gear. Takes longer, but works around the street. This'll be a cool project Scotty
I've had my VS Series 3 ute for nearly 15 years, pretty much stock mang auto, could've upgraded to something newer in that time but I've grown to love it too much.
Looks like it was originally a 3 seater model that someone's converted to bucket 2 seater. Handbrake location gives that away. They've done not a bad job at it though, as they have put correct radio and A/C surrounds for a 2 seater centre console model. Paint looks good too. Whoever had it before went to a bit of work to customize it for themself

Colour looks to be either Reuben's Red or maybe Granada Mica ( I think Calais, Stato colour ), lovely colour whatever it is. Personally ( much like the Red VN Berlina you "did up" ) I would prefer to see a nice, clean looking vehicle being sympathetically kept in good original nick, but whatever floats ya boat mate, all the best. A real nice starter ute there.

VR had square orange indicators VS Series 1 had the same as VR square orange indicators VS Series 2 had orange oval ones VS Series 3 had the clear oval indicators
My 94 VR ute came factory with a very very dark purple. In the shade it looks black but in bright sunlight you can see the purple. Looks so nice with a polish but planning on upping the purple bext re-spray

(both done in the same station). honestly ls twin turbo nice. but i would want to go with the period holden V8 and turbo that up. anyway im gonna love this build.

Did you get the weight rechecked. I thought if you paid that much for a weighbridge certificate it should be accurate. Caravan owners and truckers are relying on this to be a safe and reliable measurement. From memory the curb weight of those utes v6 and manual were about 1400.
@@LockieNZ yeah but my thought process went down the route of complety gut the tray make carbon fibre parts for every part of the car and then add a na 500hp v8 get it down to 1000ish kilos and add some custom areo parts make a fun time car using the tray to make a massive diffuser time attack car
I have a purple haze ss sedan. Only 10 were painted in this colour. 6 sedans and 4 monaros. It was a concept colour but wasnt received too well, hence why cosmo purple was introduced
Did the MX5 have a TTLS before the Barra? Did the Barra put out more power and was the setup better to run better times? Is the MX5 lighter than this ute? If yes to all of these questions, how can you expect to get 7’s out of this when MX5 said no???
Awesome scotty my vs ute weighs 1350 kg with a ls2 turbo run 10.2 foot brake 137 mph on 10 psi so should run 9.6 on transbrake and hopfully on high boost will run a 9.0 tranbrake makes 750 rwhp

engineering requirements vary from state to state, and engineer to engineer, so there's unfortunately not an easy way to make such a video

I've had 2 VP's with the 5 speed, both had second gear crunch. Fixed both with a really qood quality synthetic gear oil.

The MX5 was 5.7-litres, and this will be 7-litres with a lot more boost than the 5.7 could ever handle

Awesome scotty my vs ute weighs 1350 kg with a ls2 turbo run 10.2 foot brake 137 mph on 10 psi so should run 9.6 on transbrake and hopfully on high boost will run a 9.0 tranbrake makes 750 rwhp

Purple haze came out on the "new" Monaro... its a strange greyish purple referencing Lenny Kravitz if i recall correctly from my Holden Paint Shop days.
