I have been testing out the Thoroughbred tips on my personal cue. I really like the way they play and feel. They take chalk well and have not glazed over yet. At the price point, they are a nice and cheap tip to experiment with. For those that install tips, they are quite nice to install. They cut easily and take a nice finish.
Wow, you did a great job! Very thorough and love the amount of information. I plan doing some reviews on tips later this year aaaaannnnddd, I don’t what I can do to compare/complement this. Awesome job my friend, you said you’re an addict😊.
LOVE the Thoroughbred tips! My tips for life! I use the medium-hard as I like the feedback. Never had one glaze, and never have miscues. This is especially helpful when I find a good rhythm in a match and don't want to stop to chalk after every shot. They are perfectly priced. And, the nicest looking (IMHO). Perfectly complement my Bluegrass Cue. Thanks Richard and Kelly! Fan for life!
Thank you SO MUCH for this great video! I bought a new Cuetec and was torn as to what brand of tip I’d want. 20+ years ago I used Moori mediums, and yes they’ve changed, so I’m not going to buy those any longer. I really liked your presentation on the Thoroughbred tip. The price is right and I love the sound more than the others I heard. So, I will be buying some Thoroughbred soft medium tips. @@ArtofHOPE_Podcastyes it most definitely does I have one on my predator laminated wd shaft #314 3rd gen and it plays amazing even though it supposed to be made more so compatible with a carbon fiber shaft instead of a wood shaft but Regardless I still good consistent response from it 👍eventually if I decide to go with a carbon fiber shaft I will more than likely go with the Kamui athlete tip again

I just got my Hsunami 2.0 from Richard installed with a CAIDEN Fighter Medium tip and it plays, feels and astounds phenomenal! I played on my Carbon shafts ZAN Hybrid MAX (ok,could be better), KAMUI Athlete M (ok, could be better), KO Medium and Soft (both very good, although i usually don’t play Soft tips), TAOM Fusion (very good tip too). But for now i have to say the CAIDEN Fighter Medium plays amazing. Let’s see after a few months of playing.
What hardness do you use? And have u ever tried the kamui black before? I’m in doubt choosing between kamui black or the how titan. Cause i heard that how titans are good
Nice comparison, however I vehemently oppose the idea that one tip would împart more spin than another. The amount of spin depends on 2 things and 2 things only : cue tip offset from the center and cue tip speed. As long as you don't miscue - and you didn't suggest any of these tips miscues, the amount of spin will be equal when the 2 conditions are met.
@@catasky I don’t believe I said one tip imparts more spin. A softer, more elastic tip allows you to spin the cue ball easier with more forgiveness. Try doing max draw with a phenolic tip vs a Kamui black soft or Caiden soft. It is easier and more forgiving to use a softer tip with more elasticity to spin the cue ball. You can most likely achieve the same amount of spin with a phenolic tip but you need a really pure stroke to get the same result. I also completely disagree that only 2 things would impact spin. Things that can impact spin: -Condition of the cloth -Humidity -Type of cue ball used -How glazed the tip is (I can perform a non miscue hit with a glazed tip and it will not generate as much spin as a non glazed tip with the same speed and tip placement). -And more… Even the stroke of the user with the same speed and tip placement will yield different amounts of spin (watch earl spin the cue ball multiple rails, I certainly can’t do that with the same cue tip speed and tip placement).
@TheBilliardCorner We are only talking about the relationship between tip and and cue ball, the condition of yhe cloth is irrelevant and in any case it would be the same for all tips tested on the same table. You are again perpetuating a wrong stereotype, it is not "easier" to draw with a soft tip. Harder tips actually have a higher energy transfer and they are a bit more efficient in fact. I did say as long a as you don't miscue, and you won't even with phenolic as long as your tip placement is inside the miscue limit, which is the same for pretty much any tip
@@catasky I disagree. I stated it is easier to create spin with a softer, more elastic tip. NOT that it would impart more spin when compared to a hard tip. Your first argument there is null and void. At first you stated there are ONLY two things that impact spin. Now you have backtracked stating "we are only talking about the relationship between tip and cue ball" when you did not state that initially. Your second argument is not correct as well. A hard tip may be more efficient with energy transfer, that is true. However, I don't believe I'm perpetuating a wrong stereotype here. You can most likely achieve the same amount of spin with a phenolic tip but you need a really pure stroke to get the same result. It is my opinion that it is easier to spin the cue ball with a softer, more elastic tip due to the human element of different stroke. My argument and opinion is that it is easier and more forgiving to use a softer tip with more elasticity to spin the cue ball. You forget the human element of pool. You need a good stroke to pull off the same amount of spin with a super hard tip when compared to a softer, more elastic tip. A super hard tip is much less forgiving when spinning the cue ball. We are not robots that are pure and perfect when it comes to stroke.
@@TheBilliardCorner Very well explained, bro 🙌🏻 One more question brother, Would you recommend the HOW Titan tip than the kamui black? Cause i heard that the HOW tips are good too, as good as the kamui black.
@@nafiammar I recommend the Caiden tbh. The Caiden has the elasticity of the Kamui black but no glazing at all with a great hit. Caiden is what I use for my playing cues now. If I had to choose between the Kamui or HOW I would choose Kamui.
What hardness do you like? Kamui Black Hard was my 1st installed tip on my cue, 2012. It was great for a while. The glue likes to permeate into the layers and make it unable to be shaped after a couple of layers. Never tried Kamui Brown or Thoroughbred. Caiden is a new brand, and I have heard good things.

@TheBilliardCorner I changed tip back and still had unusual problems with glazing. Turns out to be a bad batch of chalk. Will give Caiden another try. Apologies for premature criticism.

Good video. I used to be an old school La Pro guy but recently changed to Kamui Brown Soft and it’s definitely softer & quieter but I really like it and still getting used to the spin it can induce so much easier than the La Pro. One must also know that all cues hit different like different shafts in golf clubs and finding the right tip for one’s cue feel & sound is part of the process. Some cues just hit harder or softer than others and certain soft or hardness can help one get what they’re looking for. I’m going to try the Kamui Black Soft next. I’m pretty impressed with Triangle chalk they say is for snooker made by Master for a very good and cost effective chalk. Check out a few of my videos. Cheers
I got a thoroughbred med hard installed by Seyberts but its flat, do I need to shape it? Its already glazed over after 1 month. What should I do to optimize it?
New tips are not a great way to compare tips. Compare them after a lot of use … when the leather gets compressed & chalked multiple times. I removed my Kamui tips & went back to LePro because the Kamui got glazed after a period of use. Reshaping & lightly removing the hard surface was required more often. I have been playing since 1959 … I know how to take of a cue.
This was a great video for the glazing part is that also why when you use chalk like the v10 and other chalks I can’t stand the glazing it looks like a shiny bald head lol
