    Sort of accurate. 5let in measure 3 is singled down the drums. Herta bar is good. The downbeat of the roll is on the 6inch. 9lets are rhythmically accurate with a couple slight around issues. Last 2 bars are all triplets. Good job though, that’s pretty impressive.

    The wind chimes are not a sound effect. They're being played by all the mallet players in the front ensemble. I got to watch this show a lot since they stayed in my city for a month so me and my friends would go and watch their run throughs often.

    Fun Fact: the wind chimes at the beginning are not sampled! The 5 marimba players each have a set of cluster chimes that we do a gentle shimmer with at the beginning of the show 🤘

    • @uvn6210
      @uvn6210 3 года назад +7

      I’ve thought about the differences between the two from a non drummer’s perspective and listening to the source material a bit, and I think that Rennick’s arrangements are definitely primarily written with musicality in mind, and Ferguson is definitely more energetic and showy. I actually like the Ferguson’s arrangement of the second movement better than Rennick’s because it felt like it captured more of the raw, chaotic energy in the background of much of the source material (Harmonius Part 3: Wild Nights). I still like the 03 front ensemble better for the most part, but I think that Ferguson was trying to strike a balance between doing his own thing and trying to stay loyal to the original in that department, which felt a bit awkward at parts to me.

    Before Phantom left to go on tour, they did a pretty awesome clinic with all 5 of the highschools in our school corporation here. At the end of the day, all of the wind players went onto the field with Phantom and played their opener. It was absolutely fantastic and there is a decent quality video of it. Someone has a ton of photos and videos that we compiled from that day. I personally have a few photos and short videos of the front ensemble clinic where we placed all of the highschool mallets into the Phantom line and had almost 40 keyboard lined up. It was a pretty epic day.

      Hopefully they can fix the dreadful brass that about ruined the 2003 CDs. Ouch that was painful to listen to. Definitely the worst hornline in the top 12 in 2003. Phantom staff, please teach your horn players to play in tune when trying to raise the volume. When they hit triple forte, it was one of the worst sounds ever. And too bad they don't have enough time this year to come up with better drill. They almost fell out of finals in 2019, this show would barely keep them in this year if it were being judged and all the corps were on the field performing.

Was wondering if it’s as noticeably loud for a live spectator, or maybe just the way it was recorded? ie DCI finals ‘95 & ‘96 audio, way too much front cymbals drowning out the entire ensemble. 15 is right around average size of a DCI contra section it's usually either 12 or 16 but since this is a wonky season the size of sections across corps is a lot less standardized. The Blue Stars this year have a massive 20 member section which I think is really cool and of course smaller less popular corps have less members overall.

    15 tubas, while 12 are clearly visible. heh, should be 20 for Pete's sake - it's Phantom Regiment, in my view 40 is too light. And, Eric I thought i was good at writing stuff down as I thunk it up - you're sick or something, making excuses because it took hours, you transcribed that first tenor lick in the same week it was out and played it!

    In regards to the color guard at the end....at one point it was tradition, I believe, for at least one guard member to constantly be moving from the moment they step on the field til the end. They may still do it.. In this particular circumstance they are recreating what the guard member did at the end of their 2003 show.
    Do more of these please with transcripts. That was nice to see.

      @@evanechoes253 well they literally took the bronze medal in ‘12, but hey, who fact checks anything these days. And if we’re saying they were lucky in ‘08……uh…. Why am I wasting my time replying. But yes - the real rot set in about 2017. ‘14 and ‘15 were shows that were close to being 5th place, but they continually lacked that last push to cement that top half finish. But all the old staff from ‘03-‘13 are back and it’s clear the corps is making the turn back to the PR standard.
