13:40 Something I think is really neat, is that this is actually extremely accurate to how lightning actually strikes the ground irl! I know having a telegraphed visual appear on the ground where the lightning will strike is almost certainly purely a game mechanic, and I don't think I need to explain why that's important to have. But irl, the same thing happens! During lightning storms, these blue, almost "tendrils" of electricity will start to rise up out of the ground. Whenever a similar electric tendril from the sky manages to connect with one from the ground, it's like completing a circuit, and along that connected line is where electricity will surge, which is a lightning strike! This all, of course, happens within fractions of seconds. Occasionally, people trapped out in lightning storms have managed to actually catch glimpses of the currents that rise from the ground, but I feel I must mention that those people came very close to _dying_ because that meant they were right in the middle of where lightning was about to strike. But I just thought it was cool, that despite having a very obvious _function_ in gameplay, the visual effects of the lightning bolts are actually more accurate to real life than otherwise! (P.s. if you're ever outside, and you suddenly are covered in static - that is, your hair starts lifting straight up, and everything feels crackly like you'll get a shock if you touch any metal, *_RUN._* That means you're likely inside one of the ground currents I described, and that lightning is about to strike! Getting out of that immediate area as fast as possible should be priority #1, followed by getting _inside,_ wherever you can!)
This is a REALLY GOOD resource, gawddamn. the EXAMPLES ALONE, with the numbers pasted on to show off what each ID does at what time?? HUGE benefit to figuring out what things do what! Having juuuust started param-editing on DS1-Remastered (because the drop rates for Slabs make me want to tear my hair out) I just about wept when I saw "merging I guess" as the last thing on the "basics" list at 0:38 T_T That would be so nice to be able to do... So many cool DS1-R mods on Nexus that edit the SINGLE game-param file... How do merge... Howwww...
As someone who's dabbled in modding several different games, huge props for making this video. Access to information like this is often difficult to find, often "locked away" in communities who may or may not be willing to share it. You making this effort to share all this knowledge in such an accessible and clear way with great examples and visualizations is just awesome. also, i have no plans to make mods for elden ring, but i was still glued to this. super interesting stuff.
"Hey man, you got any memes or tier lists?" "Gotcha covered, anything else?" "Uh, yeah, you know where I can get any incredibly informative modding guides?" "Okay, you're not gonna fuckin' believe this."
As someone about to start working with bullets for their overhaul, THANK YOU, holy balls this was good. You should do more of these. Super informative stuff. Subbed.
Thanks for this video. I made a few DS3 mods years ago in Cheat Engine, and figuring out how everything worked through painful trial and error was a massive pain in the ass. I didn't know DS Map Studio existed back then, and it looks so convenient by comparison.
Ooooh I remember messing around with bullet editing. Ended up making a Star Shower that had Rannis Dark moon explosion as the hit effect. It just melted bosses
Thank you Rusty you are very kind. You shared something that took you years to learn and even gave more of your time to create a tutorial for us. This was missing
Excellent guide, thank you so much! We need to get this into a wiki or something, because wow that's a lot of important but highly specific param fields. And yeah SpEffects are crazy. Every single possible buff and debuff in the game is put into a giant spreadsheet, and all you need to do is move the numbers around to make different things happen. I made an overhaul mod that includes reworks of consumables, talismans, spells, and status effects, and most of it was just tinkering with SpEffectParam for an uncomfortable number of hours. Now I get to spend even more hours messing with bullets!
This shit basically just lets us make our own spells like oblivion. Brb, making a comet Azur but with magma. Fr tho, What a great resource to put out there for us all, Thank you!
Just watched your trailer for 101 Sorceries. Came here to get a glimpse at the process. Very detailed video; I can see how much effort you put into this.
I just constantly stopped this video to nerd out about how many awesome spells I could do!! I CAN FINALLY HAVE SLEEP SPELLS IN ELDEN RING!! Imagine using a glintstone pebble that applies sleep after using some ekzyke’s decay!! The boss would just be lying there incapacitated while their face is getting rotted off!!
Amazingly detailed information, awesome. Sadly what's left of brain has now melted and it looks like I will be getting colouring books for Christmas for the rest of my life
Given the ratio of views this got in comparison to your usual, I felt like I should swing by and thank you for explaining this so even a total code newb like me at last understands.
Thank you! Very helpful, I would've never considered modding ER, but now... Im definitely going to be making a spell pack for myself and buddies. Extremely well made, and easy to understand. THANK YOU!!!
I wish I would be able to use this efficiently enough to give Hand of Malenia the healing effects. I won't ask for a specific tutorial on how to do that, but...
Can you do more like this? There are precious few tutorials on modding out there and the ones that exist don't have anywhere near the quality of this video. I want to get into it but between a grand total of like 4 videos on youtube there's not much in the way of actual explanation, just a download instruction and a showcase of "here's how to make a new mod file. Ok, good luck"
Okay question for someone who knows more about how this game works than I do. If I were to mod the game, for example making new spells, would I be able to add a new spell to the roster or would I have to replace a pre-existing spell. I looked around on Google and couldn't find a straight answer and this seemed like a pretty okay place to ask since this is also a video about modding Elden Ring.
I've seen mods that add new spells like Elden Ring Reforged. I think they just add new IDs for it but you'd have to have some way to acquire it (Maybe Cheat Engine). Might be worth checking how those mods do it.
Can we add a video if you don't have already on how to add passive skills to weapons ? I wanted to have one seal with 3 passives instead of switching between them all the time lol
Hey Rusty, I recently got into modding and was able to do basic modding stuffs like item transmog, changing basic animations. Now my objective is to do a MOD that will show all my equipped weapon visible to character and not just what's in the left and right hand. Problem is, I can't seem to find the proper place to work around. Any idea where would that be?
This sounds like a user interface thing you would have to design yourself rather than a couple lines of code you could edit. I also know nothing about this stuff but an educated guess to hold you off.
Hi, kindly tell me what is the relationship between sfx duration and bullet duration? Suppose i enter duration of a bullet to be -1(means forever in boss fight), would the sfx also last forever in a boss fight?
I don't know what I'm doing wrong but editing bullets only changes the visual effects for me... They don't even connect, just pass through the enemies doing 0 damage, and after a few times using the spells, all the bullets (including arrows, throwing knives, all of spells) suddenly stop spawning, I need to ficking reset the game so that the whole params get reloaded and I can use any kind of bullet
I know nothing about stuff like this, only really having info from these sorts of videos you make But I honestly adore these videos Getting peeks behind the scenes of how spells work and can be modified to a frankly startling degree is super cool It's honestly sparked my curiosity in possibly doing some bullet editing of my own, when I have more time at least.
I know this isn't exactly the right place for it, but I've begun dabbling in param editing myself, and I can't get the params I've edited to update in game. For instance, I've changed the Gold Scarab to give more runes, but it doesn't seem to be updating in game. Could anyone help?
I dont know why but this video has this undertone of like a sorrow filled "last of his kind" old wiseman of his craft attempting to teach new generations what he learned in hopes it wil spark their creativity, the music doesnt help my man
The extra bullets on lightning spells are for the water conduction effect.
This was actually super informative, and I can't wait for Rusty to rank his own videos and mods

Thx Rusty. I just started modding and this was really informative
I just think multiplication tables are neat

thanks for this obscure-ish information that I didn't know I really really wanted!!
It might be humble but I used this video to slightly adjust Spectral Lance so it feels like I'm actually throwing a javelin. Thanks, Rusty.
Doing this for a project for my core class next year

I play on console and can't even do this stuff yet I still paid better attention than any of my classes😆
