I know looks don’t matter (to an extent) and would rather take pride in my work, what my friends and coworkers say about me, what my fiancé would say about me, ect. My sister did this too, she was around 11 years old and put in a fiver, which was her allowance, and tried to make change for herself. Oh the shock on my parents faces! My Mother, rest her soul. Would talk about it sometimes much later in life and just burst into laughter.
Honestly, I thought about asking for change at Mass the other week but didn’t. I don’t go every week, but something told me I had to that Sunday, and I had not planned on it. All I had was a 50$ in my pocket, and as a college student that’s 50$ more than I had to lose. But when donations came I wasn’t trying to avoid it, even though you’ll never be criticized at my Church for doing so. Gave them my 50, really thought about asking for change.
Years ago my 1 1/2 year old put both hands in the plate and had two fists full of cash. I was so embarrassed trying to get the money out of her hands she would not let go. The whole church was laughing i was mortified

i always hated they all dressed fancy in my youth because i was poor and didn’t have suitable attire and wouldn’t go because of that - BUT i really don’t think shorts are appropriate .
