  • EVLA (or endovenous laser ablation) treats major varicose veins that were previously treated by invasive vein stripping surgery. Here’s how it works: with ultrasound guidance, a laser fibre is placed into the abnormal vein through a tiny incision. The vein is then numbed with local anaesthetic, and the laser is activated as the fibre is slowly removed.

@@user-pq8vh7ed8u I had radiofrequency ablation instead of laser. Worked very well, no problems. I was awake for the whole thing and watched most of the procedure (Cake-walk). Other spider veins near the main ablated vein slowly disappeared after a few weeks/months as well.

Is it common a MEDICAL ASSISTANT perform vein ablations? I'd think best have a doctor with radiology & vascular board certification right?

In the UK they’re called Phlebologists, but you have to pay. Our National Health Service have general Vascular Surgeons, who can only Perform this on large truncal veins and not small Perforator veins, if your Perforators happen to be damaged, but a full Duplex Scan should ascertain that. There are now even more advanced treatments available other than EVLT, called HIFU.

A doctor said the lasar will burn out the main vain, a week later he will go in and pick out remaining dead vains.

That’s rubbish. I have had Endovenous Laser Ablation Therapy together with Transluminal Occclusion of Perforators, followed eight weeks later with Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy. Best money I ever spent and haven’t looked back since 2018.
EVLT has now been replaced with Echotherapy.

He must have been digging deep in my insurance pockets. However, I did go back, and they did pull a few tiny veins out. A little Novocaine, a few veins, it took about 1/2 hour..@@eveoakley6270
