Whats not to understand? Sea, salt, sand, carrier take offs and landings are alot more brutal on a plane than taking off on a standard runway. The Legacy Hornets are newer than the F15 and F16 and they are beaten up far beyond their USAF counterparts
the F-15 doesn't have sweeping wings, they're much more complex and more expensive to maintain. Plus the F-15 operates from land, carrier operations are more stressful on an airframe
I saw Jay in there, where's Megan? :) Too bad they didn't go to zone 5 while doing the fuel dumps. Would have made for a spectacular show. (since they were wasting fuel anyways)
They should say fuck the f-18 and bring back the 14---- the F-14/D flew higher--faster--farther had more pylon pts for ordinacnce---boohoo the mechanics didnt like it--nowadays better engines with more power using less fuel---- my ram is that way Long live the tomcat VF-33
metallica is a far cry from the days of ride the lightening, master of puppets, and of course, my fav, and justice. they simply sold out to the lowest common denominator. money talks. btw, nice vid. the tomcat was a beautiful craft indeed.
The added stress of carrier operations shortens the lifespan of aircraft. when they land they're slamming on the deck a lot faster and a lot harder than Air force fighters. Launches are also more taxing. The Navy could keep them in service sure. but they're expensive and more demanding to maintain than the F-18s, and the F-18s are almost as capable.
