It's amazing to see a manufacturer "how to video" on doing an oil change and the oil that comes out of the engine looks like it's 30% water. POLARIS!

    It’s a T40 torx for drain plug.

Just purchased a sportsman 450 and I do have to say unlike Harley Davidson it’s nice to see Polaris has videos so you can do everything yourself

Bro, Harley is one of the only manufacturers that still allow you to buy a shop manual.

Other videos show draining the dry sump reservoir. Did they flip to wet sump in later models?

Huge PITA, I think someone installed the last oil filter with an impact gun. Horrible placement by Polaris. Auto Zone offset filter wrench 1 7/8-4” did it but it was crazy hard to get off.

That filter is near next to impossible to get off if you have big arms without taking the tire off. Even then it is a struggle.

Its the absolute WORST place for an oil filter ever. Obviously intentionally designed that way to discourage people and make them have to go to the dealership. Why would they locate a part like that right next to the driveshaft and battery, literally within inches!?

Exactly just struggled with mine for hours today trying to get it off couldn't get it so I had to go buy a special oil filter wrench

HTF do you get the dam oil filter off?!? Total PITA!! Total design flaw by Polaris or it's deliberate. Either way i refuse to take to one of their dealerships for maintenance for anything.

You should have filled the oil filter up. You're going to starve that motor of oil when you crank it. Just saying...

If you ran the engine to warm the oil before draining, there is still plenty of residual oil in the system to protect those moving parts.

It's Polaris PS-4 oil, which is a full synthetic 5W-50 oil. It should be listed in your manual, if you have one.
