  • Don"t believe all the stories you hear about the failures of socialized medicine in Canada. Here's my story. I'm grateful for the wonderful care I received.

Wonderful that you still have socialised medicine there that actually works!

I am very glad you are well, Dr. Carveth. Your video was shared in an FB/Meta psychoanalytical group which you may or may not be aware of ("Donald Carveth Discussion"). Although I have no time nor energy to reply to either RUclips nor FB posts these days, I took the time to do so today. I am SO very sorry that my conscience did not allow me to NOT reply to the group. In my post, I voiced serious criticism of your opinions in this short video. So sorry. I shall always treasure your psychoanalytical lectures--I watched them repeatedly, and also listened to them as mp3 recordings as I was walking or climbing mountains. Because you are wonderful in how you speak of Melanie Klein and so many others. When you lecture on various psychoanalytical topics, I'm all in, and I appreciate your insights. AND your books, which I purchased. Unfortunately, you do not really grasp the state of our Canadian healthcare system at this juncture (in the ROC, the rest of Canada, separate from Toronto). I speak as a person who worked in Psychiatry here at McGill, then Pharmacology, underwent psychoanalysis for 5.5 years (the elderly lady, my analyst--who knows you--did not like you, when I mentioned your name to her--but you know how Montreal's psychoanalytic world has become a secret little cult, in contradistinction to your Toronto psychoanalytic society) ... For what it's worth ... Please be well.

Thank you for these comments. I tried to make clear that I was speaking only of my personal experience and not generalizing, but perhaps I did not make that clear enough. I realized that I was very fortunate to receive the care I did and I recognize that many others have experienced our system very differently. I felt grateful and I wanted to say so, not to generalize to Canadian healthcare in general. Just my personal experience recently that I felt was worth voicing.

@@doncarveth My goodness. I did not expect such a generous reaction from you, mainly because I have now become accustomed to silly or violent reactions on social media (which I only joined 4 years ago). And, simply owing to my own trauma, I expect very little goodness these days. I am beyond grateful that you took the time to write this. SO very sorry that I judged you too harshly--this is not who I am. I was "triggered, I guess--damn it. I lost the one and only love of my life nearly 9 years ago, so I was triggered, taken back to navigating these medical mazes of ours. Please accept my apologies if I was too harsh: this is not who I am. Psychoanalysis taught me “peaceful resignation” (as a psychiatrist friend who guided me-when I wanted to quit analysis-once said to me). Hope this strikes a chord. My kindest regards from Montreal. Please, as I wrote, please keep well.
