I think because she was light blonde to begin with probably helped alot
i think because this was filmed in 2007, it was really hard to find colour formulas to make a neutral/natural violet/ash blonde that isn't warm and champagne, but the salon that did the makeovers (steven knoll) who they showed as a high profile colourist to the stars, they really got the blonde formulas right on for the time.

I dont think shes mocking them at all. Shes trying to be playful and relatable to the girls. Ppl who travel abroad a lot (like Tyra) use accents playfully all the time especially when returning home bc they miss it, can't get it out if their mind or bc they're "practicing" for their return to that country so they can "blend in."

Anya needed to win this season. She was incredibly professional, took direction well, knew how to control her body. Never took a bad picture. But she didn't have a 'storyline' because she was chill and unproblematic throughout.

They never get a black hairstylist to do the black girls’ hair. They never put them in black hairstyles either! We have so much to offer so I find it rude that they just straighten and weave our hair bc they don’t wanna deal with it.
I am not black so I am not as informed on black hairstyles but I never understand that either. And I don't get why they are straightening the hair all the damn time. To me long braided hair looks almost the same because black people have so much hair that thinner braids(meaning not super super thick) look a lot like straight hair to me. One can also do almost every hairstyle with those, like complicatesd braids or ponytails. The only thing you can't do are loose curls but that's about it. So yeah I don't understand why they never give the models braids or other black hairstyles
Edit by any means I don't think that black people need to have straight hair. But if they decide they want a girl to have the effect of straight hair for some styles I think braids would be the healthier option.
Nonetheless more natural hairstyles should be considered as well. Don't get me wrong.

Imma be short but white woman hated how black women's hair was naturally, the hairstyles and culture of it all were attractive to white men. They cried to their husbands, made a law against natural hair and black women showing their hair. And the only way to get into "acceptable" hairstyles most often damaged the fuck outta our hair.
We NEVER see good braids on this show!!! Really speaks to a deep-seated rejection of black women on this show.

Tyra came from a time period where natural hair was frowned upon in the supermodel industry. It still is a bit like that today but back then your hair had to be straight because that was in style

Not only does Tyra straighten almost every single black womans hair or give them weave rather than helping them embrace their natural texture, but mocking everyone’s voices ESPECIALLY the women with accents and talking about the “curvy” model who looked maybe 2 lbs heavier than the other ones? That’s just embarrassingly nasty idk how anyone is able to support her in the slightest
I agree with everything except the "curvy" model bit-- Most "standard" models are around a size 2 (they have to be because that's what the runway clothes are sized in most of the time) and so Whitney at a size 12 or whatever is definitely a "plus size" model, according to the (very arbitrary) rules. She's actually size 16 now, and still looks good.
Also even though I 100% agree and it's awful, they literally have to put up with that kind of sh*t in the industry, and Tyra is preparing them for it. (I've heard so many horror stories from models)
I agree but modeling basically makes you change your hair at the whim of designers/ photographers etc so I don’t think rocking natural hair would be realistic. Wearing a weave can allow them to be versatile and not damage their real hair

@@notky848 I think in the modelling industry natural hair, as it shouldn't really be exposed to as much heat styling, colouring, etc, as other types of hair for various reasons, putting in a weave is often a better idea. They've done afro-like weaves on the black women in this show before.

That’s not what modeling is about at all. Models have a knack for taking on looks that are completely DIFFERENT from what they look like on a normal day. Being a model is about versatility.
Personally I don’t think just because we are black that we have to wear Afro centric hairstyles. Most black women in the entertainment industry can be seen wearing straight hair.
If we look at the fashion industry it’s common place for models to wear hair extensions regardless of race.
Personally I think Afros are cool but not mandatory lol. I actually prefer braids over Afros 🧐
Cordel White i get ur point and i’m not saying that we have to wear afro centric hair but the fact that they never seem to know how to do natural black irks my nerve and they continue to use the same type of styles over and over again. it’s getting old and there are plenty of diff hairstyles that they can use, if they tried. a lot of the times models are known for their natural looks, like little to no makeup because what they’re modeling is more important, ofc there are diff types of modeling where they can look completely diff and change up their look, but a lot of the times agencies look at ur natural state b4 they want to see a model glammed up and such. even so yea i like braids too, but they barely ever style braids on the show.

Do you but just know that You can absolutely be versatile with natural hair just like you can be versatile with white natural hair. That’s NOT an excuse for always perming, straightening, and always giving them weaves.

She’s a monster, I’ve seen some awful clips from the show from when I was younger that I’m shocked I didn’t used to blink an eye at. Also most the models have nothing nice to say about her behind the scenes.

Does Tyra not know there’s different shades of blonde and “dark” other than platinum or black? Every season it’s like the white girls get this one shade of platinum or this one shade of black and the black girls get this generic shade of brown like Tyra herself has this pretty brown that looks nice with her skin, why all black girls get this one dark one?

I know this old but like why can’t the black women ever keep their natural hair. Fatima had amazing hair but the color was very bad. Just wish they kept her curls, maybe shave the sides or whatever change the color. The weave was cute though

Two reasons: Natural haired black models had a hard time getting booked for gigs at the point in time. Also, the amount of heat and manipulation is incredibly damaging.

The way they put the weave in fatima’s doesn’t sit right with my spirit. Her curls😭 a dark brown color, silkpress, and clip ins would’ve got the same look.
But constant straightening of her hair would ruin her curls. If anything they could’ve kept the curly

Olivia Harris a proper press does not “cook” your hair. Yes, I rather her keep a silk press which done properly can last a month max with clip ins than what they just did. Her hair probably broke off after that weave. With the amount of heat they put on her leave out, The center of her hair probably looks the healthiest in the natural state with the perimeter straight. A proper silk press, 1-2 passes she would’ve been fine.
Dominique looks in her 40's. Sometimes I don't see what Tyra sees.
