Refunds in photography? How to deal with unhappy wedding photography clients & Brides complaining

    One important factor I forgot to mention this is video and I'll go ahead and mention it here. Always let your client know that you are a photographer capturing moments and you do it to the best of your abilities and your expertise. You use your best judgement and decide what to shoot and not shoot. For example. If for any reason you missed something at the wedding and it happens sometimes with no fault of your own. You are only human. Things happen. This will cover you from any future problems, just incase they come back and tell you, why did't you take pictures of this and that. State that on your contract that you ultimately have final say as an artist on what you capture. Ofcourse all the obvious events, the rings, first kiss , first look. grand entrance. all the for sure shots is automatic. however sometimes you miss shots. Thought I would add that in.

    I have similar situation in which a bride failed to make her payments and after rescheduling four different dates (from 2020, 2021 and two dates in 2022) and had three different revised payment schedules..she just stopped paying. We issued payment reminders, adjusted her schedule to help, etc. Made one final effort to remedy the situation...a month later we sent a termination email since she breached contract. She was furious! Left a horrible review filled with falsehoods, etc. She threatened her attorney, etc. I agreed that her counselor communicating with us would be best since we couldn't seem to resolve the issue and reminded her that "defamation action" was possible for her making false statements in her review. Normally, I bend over backwards for our clients, and did for her for several years, but at some point you have to stand your ground. After 13 years of business, I'll take the negative review and I included our response with evidence. So hopefully someone who is logical and sensible will read it and understand why we're not serving at her wedding this fall.

    I have seen your images and they are wonderful! I am unhappy that clients would treat your services in this manner; but it takes all types of people to make a world!! KEEP making fantastic images and making 99% of your clients "so very happy" !!!

      Thank you Silvia. Without those types this world would be boring. lol. so hehe it keeps me entertained. At the end of the day I strive to make people happy. Sometimes you can do your best but that just not good enough for some people. You can not please them all I guess. The worst complaint that a client can give to a photographer is, "where are the images of this and that? How come You didn't take pictures of so and so?" But they forget that you were doing something else, taking pictures of another activity at that moment. They expect you to be everywhere at all times. lol the Zilla's usually do this. Headache let me tell you. Thank goodness when clients are amazing it all makes up for the BS we sometimes go through. :)

    Great video on refunds in the photography business. There are people out there who take advantage of others and the honest, hard working people should not have to tolerate this sort of behaviour.

      I usually have no issues with paying clients. however there is always that one client every year. hahah.

    it's so frustrating how I have to explain these logical things to people. How can they be so delusional? I just had a bride complain to me that I didn't deliver "enough" reception photos when their reception was just them sitting down and eating the entire time. No first dance, no cake cut, no dancing and she sent me home at 7:30pm because nothing was happening. And now she emails me asking why there aren't anymore reception photos and that she's really upset and she "expected" more reception photos. It's fucking mind blowing. It makes me so unbelievably anxious that they're going to write a bad review based on things that aren't even true. Legit makes me want to quit and just get a normal job.

      I know what you are feeling. It's like they forget their own wedding day activities. what is one supposed to shoot, people stuffing their face at the tables. haha I had something very similar happen to me last week. Unbelievable people out there with no brains.

    I had a client who just told me I must photoshop her very well with no emphasis on taking good photos

      That should be an extra charge. Why do clients automatically think that photoshopping every image is included. :)

    Some clients put on so much makeup that makes them look like masquerades or embalmed living dead people.

      unfortunately being in the wedding photography business has its good and bad parts. Thank you 'Any camera works' The problem is in every market photographers are charging very cheap prices for mediocre service and sometimes clients can't distinguish between great photography and bad photography and this totally kills the market and prices.

      @@ademola5803 Its a sad time for weddings and photography right now do that reason and the covid stuff. :( we will rebound i believe. Every year i see less and less amazing wedding work do to the iphone IG revolution. I've learned some time ago to not only relay on weddings but to diversify your photography.

    Sometimes the photos delivered can be full of guests sticking their stupid iPhone and and tablets thereby blocking and spoiling the view.

      Yes the Iphones, the tablets are the frickin worst Why would you bring your ipad to a wedding just to take a picture. Totally absurd.

      @@Vahagraphy I warn them followed by pushing them because they ruin the look of final pictures.
      At some weddings you see lots of people just star gazing at their phones that totally messes up pics too

      @@ademola5803 I feel you. People should just enjoy the wedding instead of playing with phones. Same thing at concerts. When I go to concerts I leave my phone in my pocket and enjoy the show with my eyes and ears. :)
