As much as I hated the final season, the relationship between Azami and Erina's mom actually pans out better than I thought. In this video Senzaemon told Erina to try asking her dad to be more like Soma's dad. It makes sense. The psycho Azami we see here is just a hollow shell of the man he once was. He was broken TWICE. This is not nearly the man Senzaemon sent his daughter to marry. This Azami just had enough of the chaotic world of gourmet cooking. First it robbed him of Joichiro, then it robbed him of his wife. He was just trying to make a world where Erina will never expect anything and never be let down by anything the same way Azami (thought he) let down his own wife.
The final season sucked so much because Asahi and the whole "dark chef" thing were laughably terrible. Noir chefs sound stupid and they don't make sense whatsoever. Asahi sucked because while the series has characters "with powers" the powers were just extremely exaggerated versions of otherwise realistic things. Asahi though literally had a magic power. Plus him beating Jouichiro ruined things since the way it was set up Jouichiro should be just far above everyone since he was written as being above the rest of them when he was their age, but with the decades of professional experience after, he should be FAR above them. No one should soundly beat a serious Jouichiro, though they should be able to make a competitive dish. It's extremely annoying because it's so obvious how a final season could've (and should've) gone. BLUE should just attract people from all over the world and the first part of the arc should've just been different people in the different schools fighting it out for the 2 spots available (per school) for BLUE and then you would have the actual BLUE. If they wanted to bring Azami into it, then they could've had one of the other "top schools" be one he had taken over where they did everything the way he thought it should've been done and his best student is one of the favorites to win, but at the end discovered that even his best student couldn't please Mana and then he'd fall into despair realizing that even though he accomplished his dream of creating that type of chef, it wasn't good enough to save someone from the God's Tongue.
