Singing is recommended for all sorts of breathing issues because it gets you to control your breathing but without putting all your focus on it. It has the benefits of controlled breathing exercises but you don't have the manual breathing zone thing so much once you're done.
My bestie from high school suffered one of those at just over 40 & wasn't supposed to survive. Many surgeries on her brain & 4+ yrs later she's walking, writing novels again & able to drive. We have to remind her to stop writing & nap when she doesn't listen to her brain. So cool ur reading that book!
Oh man, that quote you busted out at the end so gets the whole 'trying to be upbeat as a spoonie' situation to a t. definitely writing that on one of my bullet journal pages for when i need it! I always love seeing your weekly vlogs, they're so slice of life and lovely, especially to a fellow zebra. hope you have more "some days" for the next few weeks.
I am so happy I found your channel! I loved this video and always look forward to the next. Your singing was spectacular! Such a lovely voice! I think I might have to get that book too, it sounds like a great read. I hope you have a lot of good days this week Christina, you deserve them!
Thanks for the update :) Oddly enough my neck has been bothering me for about the past week but fortunately it's mostly just painful when I lie down, plus headaches but not nearly what you're feeling. Hope you've been doing better this week!
Always look forward to your weekly vlogs, we're amazed at how positive you are! 😊 Hope the amitriptaline works for you, I've been on it for 3 weeks now and I'm mostly feeling better for it (getting some "hangover" type symptoms tho lol)! If you're still looking for things to watch, Good Mythical Morning on RUclips is a great laugh!
Your neck brace has green in it, so that counted for your St. Patrick's day! And I love that dress, how fun! You could wear a cami underneath it for more coverage. That's what I do.
As someone who is a trained singer and was for about 6 years before I had to cut it out of my life due to $$ I can say singing and your diaphragm is hugely linked! When you're taught how to sing by an instructor the first thing they teach you is the difference between singing with your chest, your stomach/diaphragm and your head voice... After all of my years of singing my abs around my diaphragm are so intense lmao I look like iron man (but the rest are pillsbury dough boy LOL!) - if you're more curious send me a message on fb!
I'm on Amitriptyline too. It didn't help with my Migraines, moderate help with nuropathic pain, but I'm on 3 other drugs for that too, fantastic help with sleep and coping with general pain and appetite. (I have no appetite without it) Helps me cope with my chronic illnesses.
I certainly know when I miss a dose. To start it, I had to take it with an antihistamines, but was able to ween off them and could take it on it's own. I am allergic to so many drugs, but am glad I can take this one. Hope it helps you Christina. Cervical problems can have som crazy symtoms, I get
the flushing too, but always attributed mine to foods I might have accidentally eaten, POTS or autoimmune stuff. I will have to take more notice from now on. I hope all goes well with your Neuro Surgery consult. Look after yourself.
omg i had the same problem this week in my vlog with getting out of the house for pt! the blizzard buried me!! also, i had no idea about the modcloth stylish surprise and i'm definitely going to have to check it out because i love their stuff and that dress is ADORABLE! hope you have some better days next week xxxx
Hi Christine, I wanted to ask if you ever dealt with depression or anxiety due to your issues with eds? I deal with chronic pain and it really affects me mentally. Not sure if you've talked about that before or are comfortable talking about it though so if not just ignore this!
I love how positive you are and learning about your disease and how you live with it. Could you do a video with your boyfriend that kinda shows his view and how he deals with everything. It must be really hard for him to see you suffer. (I hope this is not a rude question)
I love to sing. Thats what I first posted on my youtube channel way back when. It calms me and brings me joy. It's easier to sing when my jaw isn't so screwed up. What other instruments do you play?
I'm at the beginning but your hair is so cute 💕 I am going to make you tube videos. I am excited. I want to share my medical stories. have you ever thought of doing ukulele tutorials or covers?? please! your voice is BEAUTIFUL. I have a ukulele I got from music therapy but i forgot everything since they took away my therapy when I transferred from peds to adult out patient
To start I had to take
Hi Christina and Elke. Thank you for this video, I really liked it. I especially liked your singing, it was very beautiful. I am glad that singing helps your breathing. You said that for you some days are better than other days. So I pray that God will grant you many more BETTER days and many fewer OTHER days. By the way, it is only about 20 weeks until COTW, but who's counting?
I take 100 mg of amitriptyline every night. it's a really good medicine and it's also used as an antidepressant as well which is why when it first got prescribed me as a pain med my psychiatrist took it over and raised it to 100 mg and then my pain management doctor took it back and started working with it on with my 150 mg Lyrica
Cute hair! I chopped my hair off last year and it helped my neck ALOT. Hard to believe the weight of my hair was making me hurt so much. It's growing out again and I might have to cut it again but I hope not. I would love to be able to do cute things with my hair like you do!
+Tigress_Free2BeMe Lol yeah the hair is a blessing and a curse. But the length has actually helped to tame it. When it was short it was a lot curlier and actually took more work. Go figure
I just end up watching like the rest of it after you said about the new mad and I feel so bad for you with what happened to your tude. I got the book on Audible.
Sorry you've been feeling worse again lately, same here I'm afraid. Nausea, stomachaches, neck pain and knee problems have unfortunately only gotten worse this week. I have been in bed a lot as well and have been reading and watching netflix and such. I'll definitely check out that book, 'Hope heals', was it? It sounds interesting. I fortunately (or maybe unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), have no problems sleeping the entire day away. I sleep between 12 and 18 hours a day at least every other day. If I don't, I just pass out, get migraines all the time, can't think, and my vision'll blur very badly so I won't be able to even watch tv. Luckily I like to sleep, even though I'd like it if I didn't need quite so much of it. It kinda makes you feel like you're missing out on life. Well, I hope the amitriptyline can do something for you. Maybe you'll be able to do a bit more next week if it helps. It's no fun being stuck in bed all day. Your strength and positivity have helped me out more than you can imagine these past weeks, while I've been able to do less and less. So thank you for that, in any case! Looking forward to your next video. Seeya next week!
yes singing is great because it pushes against your diaphragm depending should be able to feel it, if you throat sing won't feel it. professional singers sing from their diaphragms.
I love that song! Is that the one Taylor Swift song with The Civil Wars for Hunger Games? I miss The Civil Wars, one of my favorite bands, and you sang it beautifully! I am on Amitriptyline (along with many other meds) at night, and it works well I think. I cetrainly notice a difference if I run out. I hope it helps you as well. Hugs and lots of love- Chelsie
I've been having a bad go of it pain wise. I'm hoping this week will be more kind or I can have enough breaks to keep things manageable. :P Feeding the bed and draining stomach contents is the worst. Yuck. Sorry about that.
I used to be a singer...I can't anymore though...I pass out and get out of breath. Apparently my lungs problems with gas exchange possibly due to my autoimmunity. Have you noticed if you could sing more after fusion...I'm hoping after fusion I can get my singing back
Is it possible that something is pressing or irritating your brain stem if you have trouble breathing and other neurologic symptoms? :O how does the pumping mechanism on your neck brace work? can you show that? :D
I dont know why but to me if you where black pants with the knee brace it kinda looks cool idk im weird but still great video and I hope you get better
Hi! The Amitriptyline is something I took to help me sleep due to anxiety and depression. If you have started to take it, that may be the reason why you are so sleepy. I take another med now, but it did help me a lot. I was able to take a low dose. Please feel fetter. I heard how bad the blizzard was up north and I know the feeling of being ready for Summer!!!
#randombanana :D I laughed so hard haha. And that looks like a great book! Thanks for the recommendation. I'll look into it. I'm always encouraged by your videos. Hang in there girl.
I'm on Amitriptyline myself mixed with my other medications myself, it definitely helps for helping add that extra bit of sleepiness I need before bed... I have to be on a 25 dose, anything higher than that turns me into a ravenous beast I found however! My doctor wanted me to go up to 75 last summer and when I did that I literally had a side effect of wanting to eat constantly and I lost all ability to sense feeling full and satisfied- I was constantly Hangry it was awful! But being at the low dose is a wonderful balance for me and my other meds!
I found amitriptaline was okay for pain and for getting me to sleep but I got a LOT of daytime sleepiness/foggyness with it. I would take it at about 6pm and still be feeling like a zombie at about 12pm. I took it for a really long time but when I came off it in 2015 when my I was undergoing investigations for what turned out to be POTS it was a revelation. I got half my day back!

Lovely singing :) and a clever technique too - glad that it works for you!
I love how positive you are. So very inspiring ❤
That dress looks lovely on you. I'm thinking it's a dress for when you go to the theatre.
Much love ❤
+Linda-Marie Hamrin Thank you so much Linda! 💕💕
Beautiful voice!!! :)

do you ever complain?? seems like you're so positive about everything! maybe i should learn from you since i'm such a negative person lol
Nicole Rodriguez I'm her cousin and she never complains lol. You know shes in a lot of pain when she is upset or complains

That dress is beautiful! And hang in there... Things will get better. Hugs!
Good luck with the amitriptyline!
Hopefully you get to Dr.H soon! I am praying for you. I hope you have some better days soon. I love that you keep smile. I know it is not easy
+Jen's flowers and designs Jennifer Turney Thank you so very much 😘
I'm on amitripyline and gabapentin both of which help enormously x

You have an amazing voice!

+TheJanaRina I would definitely love to make a video like that in the future. Im sure he would agree
Christina Doherty Oh cool :) I am looking forward to it and I hope you'll feel better again soon :D
I work for Walmart and we were just informed that they bought Modcloth a few days ago.

+Beth Wade I haven't tried it yet. Im waiting until this neck stuff is squared away. But I am hoping eventually itll help me sleep
That dress looks like something Meg had from Hercules!
#randombanana :D I laughed so hard haha. And that looks like a great book! Thanks for the recommendation. I'll look into it. I'm always encouraged by your videos. Hang in there girl.
Hunger games

+Anne Davis 😂😂😂😂😂
Highly recommend amitriptyline for anyone who can have it! It's made my pains so much more manageable, AND it helps me sleep.
InviDoll it didn't help me at all unfortunately, but it's definitely worth a try!

I'm sticking to 10-20mg myself for as long as I can, otherwise I'd definitely be asleep an unreasonable number of hours!
