    May is going to be an exciting month. And the first week of May kicked off with a brand new Sonos app. I can see where the love is, and where the hate is. What's your opinion on this?
    For me, it feels like a beta app. Like someone didn't add all the features before hitting the compile button. This feels like the original Sonos S2 app fiasco. But like the original S2 app, it will get better, and we will learn to love it.
    But it has to get better. FAST. The heads up event happening soon won't wait for Sonos to fix all its bugs.

    Software was not tested as it should be, against all software building rules. No excuses, sorry SONOS you messed up, we want a fix and it should be quick and tested available…

    Yes that's it Peter. There's no queue management possible which there was in the old App. How do I create a playlist? It used to be that I'd choose an album, then another one "add to end of queue" then click "shuffle". Now that's disappeared. When I searched for a performer, it gave me an automatic playlist; many tracks I don't want, but I can't delete them. Can you help?

    It's so bad...it''s almost comical. My iPad still has S2. Been using it all thru the morning with pleasure. Battery was low, so I went with the Kindle that has the Sonos update. Just let the existing Playlist stream. Both Roams, for a change, stayed pretty solid. The App, however, continually dropped...No Devices Found, No Service, etc..and the music played on. Couldn't control it until, magically, the App recognized my System again. Occurred all afternoon. Eventually, I added a song...wiped out the entire Playlist. Bravo, Sonos!

    For me i cant add apple music in sonos app and cant play anything from apple music, but i have trueplay tuning on iphone.
    I dont have any issues with other music providers, just adding apple music in sonos app. If i play with airplay from apple music it works on my speakers but dont have dolby music. In apple music it shows high resolution lossless but no information in sonos app

    How about volume slider with no numbers to indicate what per cent volume is? Basic features are missing 😢

      I also like individual volume sliders for paired speakers...is that missing or am I hungover?

      The volume slider with numbers are actually there. I discovered it this morning. If you tap on what looks like a double speaker icon on the room view it is available there.

    My system became useless after update. Constantly losing connection and disappearing in the app

    I have spent a considerable amount of money over the years on a complete Sonos Soundsystem for my house, inside and outside. What the hell have they done to this app??? It is barely usable. For the love of God, restore it back to how it was and release it when it’s ready!!!!!

    Alarm controls are missing. Alarm cannot be used, changed, enabled or disabled. Need a pc or Mac to do that.
    If alarm set and you don’t have computer available at the moment only option is turn the speaker off.

    I just don’t understand that someone at Sonos approved this app to be released to their consumers. They should know that it’s not ready right? It seems like that their software engineers did not meet the deadline of completing the product or maybe the original devs aren’t there anymore. Or are they building this app from scratch and just didn’t bother to check what features the previous versions had?
    Sonos users you’ve been warned. Don’t be fooled by the advertised new interface. In short- don’t update.

      If you don’t update you cant access all your speakers and you cant pair speakers to stereo. Damn if you do damned if you do

    Unfortunately I updated my app as it’s supposed to be so much better. Now I’ve lost my music library so was told to use a desktop . So I can see my library but can’t search my music.. I wish I could go back to the old version . But was told that’s not possible on iOS.
    I wish I had seen all the bad reviews before updating

      Agree. I can’t create a playlist. Can’t even add to an existing one. Even their website instructions are referring to the old app so they haven’t even updated them ie., there is no “more…” button on the top RHC and no option to add to an existing playlist or start a new one. The only options are to save a song or replace queue 😮 I also can’t delete tracks. On the old app you just swept to left or right. That doesn’t work now either. Sonos should never have released this. Put the tan app back on the AppStore so we can all reload the previous app

      I am lucky that I have both iPhone and Adnroid. Now I have to disable the automatic update feature on both phones. I used my Android to upgrade the Sonos app to test it out, and it was a big shock of the new app, and I turned off the auto-update on my iPhone to save my 16.1 app on my iPhone. Thanks for Android that I can easily find the old app apk to reinstall the 16.1 app on my Android phone. Sonos, stop pushing me to update your terrible app every time I open my 16.1 app.

    Releasing an update with unforeseen technical flaws is one thing. Deciding to remove popular features, some of which were asked for and therefore added quite recently, is just plain stupid.

    The only things I really dislike are the volume bar number/percent and the quick EQ.

      That's on my list, but not the biggest problem I have - biggest problems I have is I can't add new songs/song lists to the currently playing list (this is an absolute fail - literally would not have bought Sonos speakers if they hadn't had this function in the app previously as we always pass the phone around at parties getting people to add what tracks they want to hear next) - and I can no longer control via my Pixel watch - again, total fail there as I've always been able to control play/pause, track skip, volume via my Pixel watch as long as the app is running on my phone.

    I usually don’t like ganging up on Sonos, but this update was pretty horrible it looks very nice and I could get used to the new UI but there’s so many problems and features taken away, it feels like a beta they rolled out to everybody

    I’ve been a beta member for 4 years. I’ve never been asked to beta test anything. They need to leverage this group WAAAY more if they plan to introduce new user experiences like this. Just poor project management IMO.

    So with the latest update to 80.01.11 they force the 16.2 update to your speakers! You can’t get around that um if you want to use the app…@peter can you please tell us your analysis on 16.2

    The new app is so much slower then the new app. Volume change is taking far to long and the loading times when you chose a song takes double the time. I downgraded my phone to 16.1 and its instantly so much smoother. I have a top tier phone so the difference in speed is really noticeable maybe this is les a problem on mid and lo tier phones, but for me the new app is annoying to use because of the difference in speed.
    I also cant add my new sub g3 to the system everytime i try to add it the app crashes and is closing. After downgrade to 16.1 there are no problems

    Trueplay got issue for this new update ( even restart my iPhone 15 and turn off and on back my arc and era300. Because I testing my era300 relocation, I tried 9x trueplay, 4 x failed by doing half way and hang until u manually close the app, 2 x cannot click continue button after ask for turn 180 degree on my phone

    All of a sudden, just like that, the previous app version is now brilliant!
    Lots of features missing with the new version, que management, alarms, access to your local music, search song by artist or album, etc. Not a tad sluggish. It is downright slow. You hit it right on the head, rushed this out too fast. Should have been a beta tester focus group.

    Will they restore missing features eventually - probably. But the issue is they’ve shot themselves in foot, won’t admit it, and expect customers to suck it up for a few months just to get back to features they had a few days ago.

    My phone updated and the app is net even a Beta version. I don’t understand how this can happen…. Thinking on leaving SONOS if thatch’s how they treat clients. Worst version even from SONOS. I can not even make groups, no button to mute, have to slide the volume all the way to 0. No indication of the current volume, and many more issues.

    Missing sleep timer is bad but i can live without it until they put it back in. The app response is sluggish. Feels like its struggling to retrieve information from some far away server. I was looking forward to the new interface until i got it. Doesn't feel new. Not sure its any better than the old one. If i hadnt already updated, i wouldnt have, given the user experience i know now. Hope they fix it soon.

      Another thing is sometimes changing settings doesnt stick. Have to change it, go out, come back in and see if it has logged. If not, change it again and repeat until it sticks. Other thing is you would expect it being like a web app that you would be able to control your system across the net but you can't. You still need to connect to wifi.

    why every time Sonos makes an update, whatever part of its system, it seems like it is actually releasing some form of BETA. In their updates, they worsen the sound quality before it improves, they make your app worse before it improves. When Sonos announces an update, it's scary to even turn on the device. What will get worse next time? Sonos, if you can't do it right, don't do it. Stop using your users as GUINEA PIGS.

    The new app is garbage. Worst thing for me is I can't control my sound from my Pixel Watch anymore - the old app, if it was running on my phone, I could control volume, pause, skip, repeat with my Pixel watch - I used to use this all the time when watching TV so I could increase the volume during quiet bits, and decrease during loud bits.
    Other bad stuff - can't add more songs to the current playlist (there goes family parties where everyone adds their favorite song! Absolute fail!) - no numeric value for volume anymore - I always look at the 0-100 value, not the slider - and no ability to control alarms - so now I've had to cancel all my alarms and go back to Google alarms. This is inexcusable from Sonos, I can't believe they failed this hard!
    I still have the old version on my iPhone, but that doesn't help me with my main issue on the Pixel watch.
    I certainly won't be giving Sonos any more of my money until they sort this fiasco out. Was really excited for the Sonos headphones - but will not be buying them now until this nonsense is sorted out.

    The new app is trash. The UX is trash. The overlays don't click right, there's to much side-scrolling on a phone app. It's garbage.

    It’s terrrible. Seriously bad. I’ve never seen so many “Something went wrong. Try again.” I just want to listen to music! For a premium brand, I hope Sonos is embarrassed

    As the worlds biggest Sonos fanboy, I have to say I’m quite disappointed. I was ready to spend $800 on those headphones but after they dropped the ball on a simple app update, I am less certain they will be a good experience.

    Bought a roam sl cant even connect it. No music library. The controls and main screen suck. No alarm, the ceo is a dick. Look up his interview he thinks its great.customer service blows

    I lost control of all my speakers. Wifi is not working anymore. So firmware update is impossible. Many options gone, it's terrible

    I cannot think of anything that is better than the previous app. Things have only gotten worse. Very disappointing from Sonos. Someone please explain to me why this app had to be released at this time.

    I can’t log in to my own account let alone do anything. I can’t even do a song search. I think I’m going to send the speakers back and go with bluesound I “hear” that they are superior to Sonos.

    I can’t separate my Arc from my Sonos Ones that I use as rears for movie watching. I keep getting an error message. But my iPad mini which hasn’t been updated still works. 🤔🤨🧐

    We have used Sonos
    for ten years and always been happy with it. Until now. The app (upgrade) is terrible. We can't access the music on our hard drive. We can't queue tracks or curate or delete playlists. At the moment we have an expensive system that isn't worth anything.

    I wasn’t able too set the balance for my surround speakers on the new app on the old app you could set the distance between the left and right surrounds if you turned off true play.

    Now that you mention trueplay broken and you cannot set distances on the android, I can see how my surrounds on two different systems broke. It shouldn’t matter that I’m using Symfonisk, but they cannot register them to my account. With your long list of issues and all of the others posting on the community I’m sure Sonos has heard the will of its people. Thanks for all the content you post for us to keep up to date with everything Sonos.

    Another thing missing is the option to find missing devices. My speakers keep disappearing from my system & still don't reappear after restarting both them & my router. They still work however so the app is definitely messed up! 🙄

      Same here.
      Perhaps this was in the background, previously... only my ERA100 & my 2ea Roams show connected to my WIfi Router. Everything else sez "Network Unavailable".

    Interesting find..... started watching Deadpool 2 on BD the other day. It's DTS-HD. I'm adamant the old sonos app was displaying multi-channel pcm 7.1.... juat watching the second half now and getting a display of DTS (Type1) 5.1...... either way the (Type1) is definitely new when DTS audio is being played back.

    I also couldn’t run trueplay and kept hanging at the same point as you with my iPhone. Thankfully I hadn’t updated the app on my iPad so I was able to re-run trueplay with the iPad. Unreal this is broken.

    I’m just glad I still have the s2 app on my IPad and turned off automatic updates. I had to move my surround era 300s and couldn’t get Trueplay to work on the new app with my phone.

    Madness. So much less clear functionality and so many missing features. VERY CLUMSY TO NAVIGATE. Why can't the list of radio stations simply be in alphabetical order. It is chaotic. Why can't the list have smaller icons so we can see more choices on the screen? Very unprofessional.

    IMO...your 10 Cons > the 10 Pros. "...Sonos guys got lazy". Understatement of the week.

    Who the F would buy a new product from a company that utterly screwed their customers, took away all the functionality and pretended everything is fine.
    A Kodak moment for SONOS. Plenty of really good hardware out there now.

    I cannot connect to my shared drive with all my music AND cannot use custom streams anymore. Basically can't play any of my music.

    Great one Peter. I am relieved that the problems I encountered are not just mine. Now I can rest assured that Sonos is going to fix them. I would really hate to get out of sonos eco system.

      They claim to get to semi-feature parity in couple months. No word on when they’ll fix the new bugs introduced when they rush development.

    Wow, I had held out hope that even if the experience was bad for people like me using screen readers, it would be fine for everybody else: but I guess there are a lot of weirdly missing features here for everyone. Why were they in such a hurry to push this out the door?

    Hi Peter, I was waiting for your video mate 😊 … and you don’t have to be politic … I’m Sonos big fan and I have all of their products but this time I think Sonos made a huge mistake!
    I’m not complaining about the UI design or missing features… I’m taking about adding the speakers glitches… now all of my speakers are not working at all

      I had that Day 1 & into Day 2...rebooted everything (my ERA100 & 2ea Roams were the only devices that connected).
      Both TVs' surrounds were non-existent. I just took a break from any music listening. Today's the day, though.
      Last night, I noticed the big TV Room had the surrounds sounding pretty good again. Maybe there's hope?

      Try to transfer your whole system to yourself. Worked for me.

    How can you throw something onto the market when the customer is the stupid one?
    Doesn't anyone test SONOS beforehand?
    Everything is gradually taken away from you and always with the excuse that it doesn't work, there is no license for it, for example, playing music from your cell phone, etc. etc.
    But why does it work with other manufacturers? Should you be forced to buy subscriptions for certain streaming services?
    No volume numbers are rubbish, since you can't see anything like that on the TV or the soundbar.
    Things are slowly getting ridiculous with SONOS.
    Incidentally, I didn't carry out an update, but I did it on my own on the first cell phone.
    I thought it was a mistake and that I was an idiot, so I did it myself on the second phone.
    Their logo also sucks if you use a black background on your cell phone.
    Their paternalism is slowly getting on my nerves.

    Another bug or oversight of the developers to point out in the new app is that the Sonos roam does not wake up if they are in Wi-Fi energy saving mode. The truth is that there are already many faults in the app, you cannot update it and not have a bad experience.

    I made the mistake of switch to sonos with the hope of a modern surround integration. Ive spent more time trying to reconnect my systems than actually listening to them. Is it the app? Is it the hardware? I guess we'll see if i take a hammer to my system so no one else has to suffer this companies incompetence. Hire the right people, get it fixed or go the way of the dinosaurs. Rant over

    The app Lost access to to most all playlists!!!!! What else needs to be said. The whole REASON I bought a Sonos system was to listen to music. Now I can’t access my music to listen to it. What’s the point?!?!

    For the first time in over a week, my Sonos speakers have finally shown some stability, allowing multiple rooms (with multiple speakers - Arc, Move, Five’s, One’s etc) to actually play consistently, no drop outs, or lost speakers. Has something changed, did Sonos fix something in the background? My system has gone from unusable to “fairly” normal, I’m a happy fella 😬

    My major problem with Sonos, is that is too dependent to the App..
    I changed to Samsung Q990C and it is just set up, configure, and enjoy. Rarely i used the app...
    Sonos need a remote control to satisfy a simplify vision of user experience

    Just so I understand, you want to give 30% off and buy a new product when the one I have worked perfectly fine until I updated the sonos app? Clearly it’s an app issue if 90% maybe more of your customers are having issues due to the app correct? Sonos not taking no fault in this matter? Just a small discount towards more products? Pay 650.00 for something Sonos app destroyed. Who’s to say if I do purchase a new one it will work with the app? I have two ERA 300’s and a ARC that will not true play cause the app. Every time I’ve tried it says something went wrong or speaker missing. Why would I purchase anything now? No true play
    Speakers on the same system but will not let me add my surrounds (era 300s) sub will not connect since the update I can only listen to one out of six speakers at a time one I reset the app every time

    I can’t describe enough how I hate this company sinds I bought the Sonos system, first of all the user is NOT free to adjust the tremble …because there is not, they change regularly the sound spectrum and now with the last upgrade a lot of ( basic ) functionalities are not working anymore like wake- up radio NAS streaming and above all they excluded the blind community since the upgrade….they can’t simply not use anymore as they keep out the accessibility!!!!!! the worse company ever…

    This app upgrade is just terrible. sonos team seems to be getting worse with every update. “ if it ain’t bad : don’t fix it”
    Lagging control
    Keeps requiring to reconnect to the system
    Terrible at connecting to any music services like Apple Music or Amazon.
    Connect and disconnects on the HT setup randomly.

    When the app updated, I lost functionality to the Arc, both of my Era 300, and the sub. Couldn’t connect it and I essentially had really expensive bricks. App functionally is not the best it could be.

    Sonos is on a path of destruction . Alongside declining investor confidence ( stock down 50% last 3 years ) it has now declining brand sentiment and customer loyatly . It has pissed of its super loyal customer base by producing broken software and blatantly liying about it
    I fear for the fortunes of the organisation .
    Change is needed. New CEO or even apple buying them

    💯. I don’t even want to use my speakers anymore. This app is garbage and practically made all my 19 speakers useless. Worse part is that SONOS is ignoring all the loyal customers. All we want to be able to go back to the old version. How hard is that?

    Some are reporting if you update firmware to 16.2 then have to also update to the terrible 80.0 App!
    If true, turn auto update off
    Would also explain why Sonos are being so silent about the entire horrible fiasco

    Looking in local forums and sites this has been the finishing blow for many sonos users
    Many won’t buy sonos anymore and alot are just getting rid of it outright (Belgium/Holland)
    The sonos headphone WILL suffer because of this bullshit.

    This new app is a hot steaming pile of garbage. They removed full working, useful features (alarms, searchable libraries) and still didn't fix problems that have been around for years (the inability to display proper album artwork and tags). They removed the ability to set or modify alarms, however, they didn't remove the alarms themselves. I've had to unplug the Sonos speakers in my guest room as there is an alarm set that goes off at full volume every morning that I no longer have the ability to view, modify or remove. They did put a huge effort into a new UI and a massive number of new and interesting bugs. This is a perfect example of a "user hostile" interface and what NOT to do in an application. Considering they're promoting their products as premium hardware at premium prices, this app is shameful, and Sonos, particularly the IT leaders in the company should be embarrassed.

    In addition to no queue management the new app has no way to create or edit playlists. Navigation is way slower on this app too compared with the previous S2 app. Also for people with large libraries the web app is unusable for browsing your collection. Loading my library of 4000+ albums takes over an hour each time you open the web app. The Mac and PC apps might have been bad looking but at least my library loaded quickly on them. Supposedly they will sunset these apps by the end of the year but the web app is a poor replacement for them.

    Two weeks on from this video we're no further forward.
    No feedback from Sonos, no timeline for a fix, nothing.
    7 years as a customer with a reasonable investment in the ecosystem I'm beginning to think I've backed a turkey.

    Media Library functions are missing! You can't add, modify or even rescan your media hosted in my case on Home Assistant. It's a horrible app and the new update made it worse. Time to say goodbye to Sonos. Last 3 years they removed function of just playing a song from a local map on your device and now you can't even use your media-library. You are forced to use streaming services while I own my music and have it available on my local device.

    Hey Peter I’ve had the updated Sonos app for a while now probably like most of you. I’ve toggled between turning true play off and on. It maybe just my opinion but I find the sound much better with true play turned off. I find the sound fills the room better and is all around you.
