Part of my annual (soon to be more regular) visits to the BERA Museum up in Branford CT on 7/16/16. Operation of the trolley cars took place after the R17, so it's late in the day, and we've all been in the humid heat for hours getting a bit tired; still I manage to pick up the manual lap braking of the trolley cars fairly quickly, and it turns out that they brake much easier than the R9 or the Lo-V that are on property. Overall, I have to say that running the trolley cars was a bit more fun than running the Redbird in fact. Enjoy the rides =)

Man, if only Spain had some of these running instead of being kept guarded from the public eye. Closest thing we have are 10 inch gauge ones that are as fun to drive. Btw one question, how is that you can't stay in one notch more that 3 seconds? Is it because of the traction resistors overheating?

Depends on what kind of experience you want; could you elaborate on that?

Fan Railer Probably as realistic as it can get without being a big expert on the controls. Preferably not the simplest but maybe amateur level

I mean, I am a fast learner and I have done this sort of stuff before but not ok mainline stuff. A lot of experience watching operating videos and techniques

If you're ok working a deadman (having to hold the throttle down at all times) then pretty much you should be fine with all of the trolleys. 357 is my personal favorite.
In terms of subway car, the R9 just broke down on Father's day and is going to need to be looked at, so it's OOS for the time being (I'll update you if that changes). The R17 works, but has intermittent problems; still it's the easiest to operate because of the self-lapping brake. The Lo-V is my personal favorite, but that's because it's the most challenging to operate out of the 3 subway cars.

Why isn't the right hand on the brake valve at all times?

Because it doesn't need to be.

I understand shutting off firmly and quickly as a once qualified operator but treating the controls that hard is just as harmful over time

Seeing that I'm not line qualified, I have to have a pilot. I do better when I don't have someone looking over my shoulder.
