Wow, this has kind've reassured me with my own mindset and thinking. I think there's definitely something about coming from immigrant parents which makes us have harsher perspective on life. If you don't mind me saying, I think it's always better to think of the worst scenarios and have a negative mindset than having a positive outlook. In your gas station scenario, I think you definitely had the correct mentality, if you think the way you think, there's way less of a chance of you being hurt.
HI, No I don't mind at all - I think it's important to have these conversations, "Reassured you" though? Is that what you meant? Because, yes I think the immigrant parents affect our harsher perspective - but again its the need to survive that shaped them. The "extras" of joy and safety and kindness... were not afforded to them in the same way. So I try to give them grace... even when difficult. I think if someone is going to try to hurt you, they will do it anyway.. why prepare for everyone to be evil and hurt you...? You know. It is a waste of negative emotion and mentality. I think that has been my takeaway not from that specific example, but from life with my boyfriend. But hey, you might be right, the guy at the charging station could have hurt me.
A few points: 1.) trust your instincts. Nature gave them to you to save you. 2.) don't drive around alone after dark. So many things could go wrong. 3.) is it "torch" or "flashlight mode"? They use "torch" in the UK.
I agree about instincts, but maybe that wasn't the best example to use. It was just fresh from the day before. I would have ran out of energy on my way home from work if I didn't stop.. otherwise, I never drive at night, :( just circumstances because of poor planning. So I will avoid! My boyfriend uses "torch" from Italy - I use "flashlight"
