I really like the garlic myth! I have a couple of worm bins and have always been warned never to put garlic or other alliums into my bins because it will kill the worms.
The other day I pulled up a large garlic clove growing in my garden - it had a hole in it caused by some insect or other, and, in the hole, was a very lively and healthy earthworm. Go figure! 😂

Love the myths! I also saw a person soak cotton balls in beet juice and place between orchid leaves and miraculously grow orchid spikes. LOL. Thank you for all your videos, I've learned so much. After 30 unsuccessful years of trying, you have taught me how to grow and bloom my orchids.
Hi Danny! Can you make a video of going through all of your cattleyas and talking about each one like you did in the past? Differences between them - similarities and so on. Kind of like checking on each one - I think it would be very informative. Actually you could maybe pick a type of orchid each month and go through that type and not only do well check but talk a little bit about each one and maybe even share a picture of them blooming? Just an idea. January - Cattleya, February - Dendrobium, March - Oncidium and so on....Happy New Year! Love Kat
As a one time grocery shop orchid buyer, I wanted to keep the orchid alive after it bloomed and found this YT channel of yours which helped me quite a bit. Occasionally I return here to watch a vid of yours, and this time your remark on your hair sparked a tiny intent on saying your hair looks great, while all the time, i've been here because your orchids are looking great. Looking at the orchid you have on your table and comparing it to your hair, I have to say, your hair indeed can't ever compete with the orchid. ... All I wanted to say is: you got me on the wrong topic, almost complimenting you on the wrong topic, on an item I agree with you not looking the best, while really, you doing a great job there and the vids you bring out are way more worth of a compliment. and yes, your hair looks fine, really.

Happy New Year Danny, I found you this year and watch you all the time. I had one really sick orchid to which you have helped me repot and now has a beautiful root system and strong leaves, no spike but a happy healthy plant. Since, I have bought 2 more and they remain healthy one had two keikis which I have successfully separated and other with a spike! , I just got another one in bloom so I now have 6 happy healthy plants because of you and your time to teach us all how to care for these beautiful plants. I almost didn’t buy it because directions said 2 ice cubes a week. I had to go back and rescue it from that fate. Love the myth busters…..you make so much sense of bad information floating around. Love seeing all your plants too……
went from one really sick orchid (which would be dead by now) to six thriving beautiful plants. My oldest one no spikes yet but root system growing. I found you this year and have followed your advice. To now growing orchids that thrive instead of die.

I'm so glad to hear these. Especially about garlic which I heard so much about. I didn't my house to reek of stale garlic. What about coffee and Aloe vera? I've seen videos about them, that they create enormous growth spurts.

Hi Danny and Happy New Year!! I have to comment on Myth #3, me personally I would not, could purposefully stress my beautiful orchids or my other blooming house plants for a flower, I hear the same thing about stressing Hoya to get them to bloom, OMG, give it time and more than likely your blooming plants will BLOOM for you and still maintain their good health which we as the collector should be doing to the best of our ability! Ok, sorry, rant over! I totally enjoy this series and hope you can bring it back in 2024, if not, I can always go back and watch these again. Where do you get the pots that you have, where you use the soldering iron?
There can be a reason to hang orchids upside-down: when you try to mount a top-heavy orchid hanging it upside-down can allow you to take advantage of gravity to help hold it securely against the mount instead of fighting gravity with tighter zip-ties, fishing line, elastic, whatever. The new growth will orient back into the natural position and hopefully the root system will be developed enough to win against gravity by the time the plant points upward again.
Hey Danny (i have a myth too)! It's anthocyanin except when the plant is in caryophyllales and then it is betalain pigments. So when a cacti turns red or purple, its a from betalains.
A myth I have been hearing A LOT: plants from tissue culture have altered genetics from the parent plant and are inferior plants that will just die or die on purpose.
I believe a vast number of orchids are produced through TC. Seems like people who have houseplants that were rare before entering the TC market are getting a bit upset that the plant they paid hundreds for just one node are now $20 in the shops... so they have to have a "purity" argument on their plants genetics 😂

Danny hi, I have a question about cattleyas which if you ever get a chance please answer. You know how you always say that when you repot cattleyas, the current roots sometimes will die because they don't like being disturbed, after you repot? Well I am seeing that with my cattleya, and wondering if I should unpot again to remove the (now dead, I'm sure) previously alive roots from when I potted it before. But then, won't the ones that aren't now dead, die because i unpotted/ repotted again?
I think the put-garlic-in-your-ear myth related to ear infections, not fever, but it's still (obviously) not recommended.

I know what you mean Danny. I saw a video that claimed a Phalaenopsis Orchid could produce a flower spike from each leaf by adding a thin slice of a red onion to the soil. I commented on her vid that this is not typically how Phals grow and it is not usually how a Phal takes in nutrients. Now, I didn't accuse her of being wrong, I just said it wasn't typical. She challenged me saying "explain this video then...". I didn't bother. I also didn't bother telling her that Phals do not grow in soil.
Hi I live in England I have an orchid that has not grown any spikes since I bought it it had two when I got it in the stems went brown and I cut them off how do I make the spikes grow again

there are some orchids that do need stress to bloom like Stanhopeas or Gongoras which bloom in the dry season. But this doesnt apply to all orchids.
Doesn't seem as stressing but again, emulating the climate conditions of their natural environment

The phaleanopsis noid at 4.54, could that be a cultivar of Chian Xen? Chian Xen pearl and Chian Xen Magpie look a lot alike. I saw one on orchid roots i think.

I never let my phals get dry they live in a very warm room that gets hit all day with sunlight. If I let the roots get silvery I’d have some very unhappy phals on my hands.
