We're going to be doing a new series over the next 3 months with all the building projects of the NEW GYM! We've got a very large bouncy thing coming this week. . .!
I guess you’d need to add weight to the sled because if you set the resistance too high without enough downward force the wheels would just slide instead of roll when you break the static friction force of the wheels on the ground.
I found this channel at the start of lockdown. Having never done dead lifting before I figured I'd have a go cos you two make it look so fun. I've ran out of weight to put on my cheep bar. And just relised just how expensive all the gear is in lockdown. Am going down the local builders merch instead and gonna get me a few bags of cement and scaff bar instead. Getto gym here I come 😁
I think Tom was on the money with his idea. A piece of plywood with some form of non-black rubber coating or maybe a section of fake grass. Stick two long hinges on the end of it then you can use them as an anchor point in the sand to stop the board from moving and then they fold flat so you dont run the risk of walking into it if you put the board up to the side. or if you want it a few inches higher, just slap a couple of bits of wood on it to make it into a box. Happy days
Lol well there isn't much to refine! Personally i'd go for a short box with fake grass and two gate hinges for an anchor. inch thick plywood, 4 inch sides, maybe 10ft x 16ft.
Get yourself a sand rake and maybe a long jump sandpit cover( easy enough to make yourself with pvc pipe and big tarp sheet) also maybe use some bounct rubber tiles to create a run up surface
BETA way: Edge your sand pit with a plastic edger and add some dirt to the opposite side. You can either seed it or sod it and then remove the plastic edger. You'd only need to do a 4 foot by 6 foot area for a jumping patch. BETA 2: Or just get a rubber run way and lay that down and pick it up when your done. ALPHA: run on the grass until it gets worked into a dirt path.
Hydro turf off a elevated platform, like a “kicker ramp. We use hydro turf on the foot boards of stand up jet skis. You can stick it to anything you want, Grips and is cushiony, and you can get it in a lot of colors.
Yeah, he's doing amazing and you never hear him complain about his Crohn's disease. My brother has it and it cost him a solid 4 inches of height because of how much nutrients he missed with the diseased bowel. The fact Tom can do flips and work out so well is amazing.

That sled/cart is awesome... love the double handles on both sides (no turn arounds), wheels instead of sled feet (more consistent resistance, less determined by your surface AND less wear and tear on the sled and the surface), and loadable with weight and magnetic resistance?!?!?! Dude, whoever made that hit it out of the park!
I always prefer the sand a foot or so lower than the take off for learning new things. Another awesome thing you can do is to make a little lip at the edge somewhere like a small incline of grass. Then for running aerials and webster type moves the lip is gonna do most of the blocking for you and add a ton of height
For the run up I would suggest a low platform that is 16 ft. long and 4 ft. with medium length high quality astro turf with wheels that swing up so it can be set on the ground. To cover your sand pit I would get some ridged foam insulation with a reflective surface, attach them to a couple frames made out of 2x2s that are connected by a hinge so it can be folded for easier removal. Have the cover permanently staked to the ground on 1 side and attach to a couple of stakes on the other side to keep it down but easily folded out the way to use the sand pit.
You can buy transfer lawn. It costs bit more than growing it from seeds but it is ready to use in a week i think and it is easy to make a clear line between grass and the pit. I would assume having it flat is better and you can make few plywood ramps with low incline if you feel like it.
Short term solution, try using the stakes that hold down the sand pit cover to secure the green run-up. Long term, check out how long jump sand pits are made. The synthetic rubber used on a running track might uncomfortable for bare feet but artificial turf might be a good weather resistant alternative. I'm not familiar with gymnastics but for long jump the run-up is level with the surface of the landing pit. The pit is about 12 inches deep and has boards lining the edge to separate the sand and dirt, like an in-ground sandbox.
Just to build on other ideas I'd say to try plywood with bedliner and a top coat of fence paint, we've used a similar combination on trailers and it often lasts 10 years. If you just need it before the grass grows in buy a nicer sheet of ply (Baltic birch maybe?) and hit it with a bunch of coats of primer for grip. Also maybe add a chamfer around the edge so you don't bash your toes
Tom for some of the more fashion oriented GG stuff can you just do a logo that’s “GG” instead of the full grip genie logo? Also tall sizes on shirts maybe???
I competed and helped with high school level long jump pits for several years, your best friend in evening out the sand between jumps is a very large rake to push in the holes and then to go over it with a finer rake to smooth the surface. we regularly had 3 dudes overseeing the sandpit, 1 announcer, 1 big rake guy to fill the holes and 1 small rake guy to smooth the pit before the next competitor
Astro turf on horse stall matting for the run up. Don't even need a fancy set up. Just wrap the stall mats and throw duct tape around them. They can get wet and you can use them to weigh down the tarp edges
Recess 6-7 pallets in the ground, remove the center board from the last pallet for spring and cover with sanded plywood, cover that with a strip of turf and enjoy . as far as covering the pit, tarp with simple rope at the corners
@Isabella from Animal Crossing’s fat ass Are YOU kidding? You just trolling or do you really believe that? If you believe it, you might want to get your eyeglass prescription checked or else you may be very out of touch with reality. If all you do is watch bodybuilders on RUclips you might get this false impression that that's what you need to look like to lift weights, but that is not reality at all. Those with a sharp eye can see easily tell he lifts weights.
@Isabella from Animal Crossing’s fat ass What is your problem? If you can't say anything nice about somebody, don't say anything at all. Your parents should have taught you that a long time ago. You don't know Tom and nobody values your opinion on him. We believe in him.
Get some tent stakes to fix that tarp to the ground, it'll keep it stretched and in place and you can take the stakes out and fold the tarp once you're over; if you want to get some additional height you can probably get some plywood planks that you can place underneath the fixed tarp.
My gymnastics coach took a bunch of old skis, cut off the tips and lined a lot of them up horizontally attached to wood side-rails with screws to make a tumble track. He put some foam+carpet on top and it worked fantastically. Just some food for thought if you guys want to make a tumble-track without spending like $15k+
For the run up you can get the plywood and get a clear rubber coating. For the sand pit you may want figure out a way to scrape something across it to smooth it
Build your run-up from 10ply and traction aid (they have white rubber) and have it anchored into the ground so it doesnt slip PLUS you can put a pivot point. Fold it into the sand then lay your tarp onto. Easy storage.
*Flashback to Navy boot camp days* "Alright everyone, in the pit, spread out, get sandy, and say....AYE GUNNERY SERGEANT" "On your face. now on your feet now on your face now on your feet now on your face now on your feet...." And you just....built one of these for...fun?
The weight on the Tank is to keep it grounded. The resistance is supposed to be in the magnetic resistance. If it’s too light, the tires can’t grip. The more weight in top, the higher you can set the resistance.
just look at stadiums that the track and field athletics use for there long jumps and stuff. and just make it like they did. so u got an easy way for ur running way to ur sandpit
I grew up on trampolines and I can relate to the trampoline burns and scrapes you get plus when you scrap the same spot again holy moly God tier pain. Vouce.
I'd recommend you get a sand rake and use it often, your knees and ankles will thank you for it! Spades and shovels don't loosen and seperate the sand like rakes do and it's only like $50 for a decent 36" one.
Biggest advice I could give is make sure when it rains/after winter or what ever weather you normally get that you move the sand around so its not as stiff.
With jumping in the sand, it is safe to use beach volleyball guidelines. I trained with 70-years-old that said that it saved their joints. NCAA web site has the document called THE SAND, you may want to check out for best practices. People generally pay attention to sand composition (medium sand, with little coarse), and no sand should come from crushed rocks. Makes a difference.
I can tell without looking it up that it's super expensive. It's something a gym owner might invest in for clients to use. Not really for a the home gym person.
Man, you guys make great videos. You are a great duo. I have no personal interest in most of the stuff you guys do, and yet I love watching all of it because you guys love it.
Boxing day is the 26th of december, basically a clear out from stock stores get before christmas and such. Was basically our own black friday type sale, before we started introducing it ourselves also.
If you seed in the grass around the pit and water it every day, it'll grow in pretty fast. Like below, I would suggest putting landscape edging around the pit to keep the sand contained, and easier to attach a tarp to. For the run-up, anything flat would shift around a bit in the sand, maybe something like plywood with an apron or like a dock with cross planks on a frame that you could sink into the ground. For now, you could tack the green mat down with tent stakes.
juji you should try a slight incline run up space into the sand pit from on side. its really effective for increasing running speed into jump height aka more flight time
You could try some thick rubber paver blocks/flooring. I bought a bunch of them for my corona gym so I could deadlift and not smash the bricks afterward. Might be helpful to pull a DIY-job with a shade sail with a standing ladder or something if the heat makes the sand too unbearable.
@@jakflasdick definitely when you first start out. After that it doesnt really happen, the flesh wounds becomes calloused from the daily abuse in the same spot.
Look into same volleyball court edge guard to help contain the sand, you'll have to run a 2x4 around the pit and then put the edge guard on top. As for a run up try some hydro foam glued to some melamine, it would definitely be lighter than plywood. I would say check out the levelawn leveling tool as a substitute for a rake.
What about like a rubber granulate mat or something like that as run up for the sand pit? i remember having a nice feel on those and even a tiny little bounce when you jump of those
that sled cart thing is so like a duck walk...which you can also do in your sandpit for added difficulty if you like. Also, you can do Burpees in there too...that'll deal with you leg fat...get a chinup bar sorted out there too and you can do Burpees straight into a chinup
a piece of running track like used for long jump etc would work great at the front of the sand pit. Its springy while solid and as you only need a small strip shouldn't cost too much but you will need to fit it correctly
3:03 i’d say you can use that just nail it down to the ground so it won’t move. The problem with plywood is splinters plus they aren’t that durable. But yea the backyard is looking and will look amazing Juji!
A rake might help with the sand pit? It’ll pick up those rocks & large clumps of sand. Also maybe have it slightly lowered by a 1/4 foot from run up & keep it racked flat or you could twist your ankles on the dunes ahah! That’s what the sand pits are like I use at the athletics track 🙏🏼
you should lower the sand pit and build the run up with lightly colored outdoor carpeting on top of plywood. super cheap and movable solution for weather too.
Put the pit slightly lower and then just a standard thin gymnastics Matt would do for the run up, you can buy rubberised ones that provide a bit more grip if you need. If you aren't sure what I mean I can send a link.
Just a thought, mind you i have zero experience in any of this, but if you need a run up with a higher platform to trick off of, you could have a long slight gradient that leads up a dirt mound, and trick off of what would essentially be a small hill in to the sand pit. The gradient would have to be gradual and long so you aren't running up a hill in to a trick.
Can't help with a run up but definitely get a big metal rake to rake the sand so it isn't so compacted at the top, stays evenly spread out and you will dig out any twigs and cat turds that find their way there. You could also stick a plank of wood in the ground just to mark the start of the sand pit
We're going to be doing a new series over the next 3 months with all the building projects of the NEW GYM! We've got a very large bouncy thing coming this week. . .!

You should but a small angled gymnastics trampoline on one end and a rubber raised platform on the other side.

Just in case it's needed, consider a shade fabric to place above outdoors areas.. it won't be damaged by wind or rain but helps prevent sunburns
I can realate to the wounds on his feet. I do jiu-jitsu
Man my feet were ruined for months when I first started
@@jakflasdick definitely when you first start out. After that it doesnt really happen, the flesh wounds becomes calloused from the daily abuse in the same spot.
Command MastaCheef dude I was so happy when the callouses finally formed! Made rolling so much more enjoyable
@@jakflasdick yes! Juji should do a jiu jitsu video. Would love to see it. Oss
@@MastahDriver I think there's one coming, he posted on instagram recently that he was at a BJJ gym with Martins!
You do not need a reason for that.
What about like a rubber granulate mat or something like that as run up for the sand pit? i remember having a nice feel on those and even a tiny little bounce when you jump of those
like if juji should compete in a body building show
that sled cart thing is so like a duck walk...which you can also do in your sandpit for added difficulty if you like.
Also, you can do Burpees in there too...that'll deal with you leg fat...get a chinup bar sorted out there too and you can do Burpees straight into a chinup
I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere
It's like poetry. It rhymes.
While rest of us gaining bunch of Covid weight, Juji is looking like an absolute unit!
I’d roll around in that sand pit with you. Preferably with as little clothing as possible. Not in a gay way tho.
As long as the balls don't touch it's not gay.
very nice to see more flips lately !
first
Make a runway from a row of pallets, and secure some ply on top. You can paint a layer of light grey flex seal on top for some traction
also you can buy the yellow spray paint they use in parking lots and stuff and a little cart to push a long in a straight line for the drive way!
You could also just use tent pegs to keep the green stuff in place without moving; that way you can move it too
Super excited for the new apparel! I'm starting to build up my own home gym so I love all the videos showcasing all your different stuff.
a piece of running track like used for long jump etc would work great at the front of the sand pit.
Or you can buy one of those air mattresses that gymnasts use. You know that big thing that you can pump I’m and carry around
You should get a metal rake for the sandpit and I think toms idea of plywood would work pretty well
Put the pit slightly lower and then just a standard thin gymnastics Matt would do for the run up, you can buy rubberised ones that provide a bit more grip if you need. If you aren't sure what I mean I can send a link.
All these videos have kept me motivated to do anything, love watching you guys
