- Please excuse the awkwardness of my first video!
What I’m Wearing:
Range Shawl by Andrea Mowry knitted in Bendigo Wool and Circus Tonic wool.
MKAL Shawl:
Twists and turns 2022 in Louie and Lola yarn.
Loved the video. Very happy to see another Aussie knitter on the platform. Keep it going.
Thanks so much! Do you post too?
@@Knitty_Mel No I don't but knitting podcasts make up majority of my screen time these days and I have found it rare to find someone from Australia. Many great podcasters from overseas but they talk about all the great yarn and accessories they use that cost an arm and a leg to get shipped here. I like find local suppliers I can support and podcasts like yours help us all find the hidden gems.
@@rayejay5359 so glad you hear this! Honestly it was the reason I wanted to do this. I’m the same, I watch so many but only a few Australians. If you have any Australian yarn gems etc. please comment them on my videos so I can spread the word 👏
I loved your video. This is my first MKAL also
Thanks! Are you hooked? I wonder if I’ll do it again next year.
Perfect Mel you’did wonderful job keep going it’s nice to hear an Australian accent
Thanks so much for the encouragement! 🤗
Keep on going Mel. A great perspective on the SW MKAL.
Thanks for the kind words. I feel so silly!
It was so fun to watch you reaction! I totally felt the same way when I saw the end of clue 1! Also, you’re a natural in front of the camera and I look forward to seeing more content from you Mel!
Thanks so much, you’re so kind! Wasn’t clue 1 such a fun start 👏 I’ve subscribed to you 🤗
You may be super awkward, and super nervous, but you're also super personable! Keep going!
Oh you’re so sweet 😊
Great first video Mel! This is also my first SW MKAL, I'm a new knitter, but giving it a crack😁 - nearly finished clue 1 (hurrah!), and I love that your also Australian! Keep up the good work!
Oh wow, tackling this as a new knitter is amazing! How long have you been knitting? You’ll certainly be learning a bucket full of techniques this month!
Love your video hope you make a lot more
Oh that’s so kind of you! I cringed while posting it and thought I might not continue but comments like yours are so encouraging 🤗
Good on you Mel! Not awkward at all!! Hahaha didn’t even see the bowl until you pointed it out 😂
Aww thanks so much! Haha ok, might not point things out next time 😂
Mel you are a natural! So pleasant to watch, can't wait for your next one! Congratulations!
Aww thanks for the encouragement! So kind.
I love watching others' MKAL videos, too! And this is a splendid first video--fun to watch and not awkward at all. I have started to notice a kind of RUclipsr speech cadence (which is getting on my nerves) and it's so refreshing to to hear someone just speaking naturally. I hope you keep making videos!
Aww thanks for the encouragement! It certainly doesn’t come naturally but it’s been fun connecting with more knitters like yourself 🤗
Omg someone kind of close by! Loved your little episode 😊
Yay! Give it a go! Your knittng is gorgeous, I love your choice of colours!
RUclips recommended this video and oh I'm so glad it did, it's so funny 😂 it's my second mkal and seeing others progress really helps me to keep going. I too find it slow growing as you said, the cast on, cast off, turning really slows the process down. Enjoyed watching your reaction and you are not at all awkward 😊 happy knitting!🧶
Aww thanks so much! Yes clue 1 was a beast! Very happy that clue 2 has been more relaxing 😂where are you up to?
@@Knitty_Mel I'm still on clue 1 😂 2 more repeats I think and I'm done!
@@szotyi9 it’s slow going isn’t it? Speeds up at the end though and you’ll enjoy clue 2 after the intensity of 1 😂
Hi Mel, my first time doing an MKAL too - I'm in Sydney/Hunter Valley and skyving off other duties to get clue 1 complete today, lol. Your video was fine (not awkward) & it was fun watching your excitement as you saw what we were supposed to be doing with the little flappy strips we have knitted - I was not sure how effective the final shawl was going to be to keep us warm with all the holes in it! Happy kniting.
Hi Frances! How exciting, an MKAL newby like me. Yep, I had lots of stuff I should’ve done today 😂 Yes I’m kind of glad he alluded to the idea that we weren’t leaving them like that. Especially when the edges seemed so untidy. Thanks for the encouragement, it’s very strange talking in a room by yourself 😂
I don’t think you were awkward at all. I found you to be quite charming and genuine and am now following you. ❤
Oh you’re too kind! Thanks so much.
I had to watch this and see which yarn you used. I was watching your Clue 3 Spoiler a few minutes ago and I was thinking your shawl just looks so sumptuous and luxurious! It does Stephen's pattern so much justice. I've had a struggle with picking colors for myself and you inspired me with your choices!
Aww thanks so much! Louie and Lola’s yarn is absolutely beautiful 🤩 more beautiful in real life! Thanks for the reminder, I should say the yarn in each video. Or at least put it in the description. I’m still learning how to do these things 😂
Loved seeing how surprised you were when you watched S.W. Video😆 great podcast. Hope to see your next one.👍💕
Thanks so much! Your encouragement helps so much. Super weird to talk to a camera 😂
Aww, loved your reaction to the end of clue 1...this is my second MKAL 😊 can't wait to see your progress on clue 2 😊
Aww thanks. Yay! Amazing you’ve done two now. I’m loving it so far. Might become a tradition 😊 where are you up to now?
You did a beautiful job on this ?😮
Congrats …be proud ❤
I’m not even doing the MKAL and I loved your podcast! I’m in Tasmania, your colours look great.
Oh I love visiting Tassie. I’ll be coming for a knitting weekend next year, where should I shop/knit?! 🤗
I love that you posted your live reaction to the video ! Thanks! 😅
Thanks for watching, such a fun thing to be a part of. Even if I’m getting hand cramps 😂😂😂
so lovely to see your reaction to the end of the video I watched the video first and immediately changed my colours so I could match this shawl with items in my wardrobe
Oh good idea! Yes I chose colours that I knew I would enjoy wearing.
Mel, I am so glad that I found your podcast. I'm so enjoying watching you do these videos. I haven't started my 2022 MKAL yet. You did a wonderful video.
Thanks so much! Comments like yours really boosts me up to keep going 🤗 I’m starting to realise that there’s definitely an advantage in waiting until all four clues are out. I’ve just seen that you added me on ravelry, looking forward to seeing your projects 👏 I’m a nosey knitter, love seeing what everyone is working on.
@@Knitty_Mel Yes, Mel, I found you over there. I actually am still catching up on the Shawlography project I started last autumn during the 2021 MKAL. I had to put it aside for a while because I didn't know brioche and couldn't work up the courage. My colors were autumnal, so I felt the urge to get that out and work on it again. i told myself I couldn't start on the 2022 MKAL until finishing the other one. I am now on the brioche section. Fingers crossed! But I've really enjoyed watching other knitters through this current MKAL.
@@KnittingsAndSewings oh you won’t regret pushing through learning brioche, it’s addictive once you’ve dived in 👏
This is my second MKAL. I knitted last year’s Shawlography, MKAL2021, and got addicted.
Oh I can understand! I think I’m hooked 😂
Very cool!! Nice job on your MKAL. Look forward to seeing you again.
Aww thanks so much! Are you making it too or just enjoying watching them all unfold? That’s what I’ve done in years passed.
I absolutely love Stephen West and have been excited about the MKAL but not in a place to start yet as I’m finishing up some other promised knitting projects. Therefore, enjoying all the chatter and different color ways of those of you brave enough to put it out there. This looks challenging, interesting, and fun. Excited to see how yours grows and how the colors turn out ... with the cable sections in clue 2 and the rest. Also, love the shawls you’ve had on ... AM’s Range shawl and the lovely Dotty Jane - going to add them to my list!! Thanks, Mel! Look forward to more videos.
@@bernadettewatts3975 oh I’m very familiar with finishing off promised knitting projects! Definitely worth doing before embarking on a five skein shawl. It’s a lot of knitting. Definitely an advantage to start later as you can choose your colours knowingly rather than blindly 😂 so many great combinations out there! Thanks so much for the encouragement.
oh, dear Mel, it is soooo funny to watch you watching the explanation of Stephen !!! - I really enjoyed it. I´m a german knitting You Tuber, but my progress with the twistandturn shawl is quite small. Until now I´m still in row 22 or so. It´s so difficult to knit it faster.
with best regars, Sylvia
As Stephen says, embrace your own pace! It just fun to be a part of so many people knitting the same pattern isn’t it? I’m subscribed to you now, thanks so much for the encouragement 🤗
@@Knitty_Mel thank you so much 😍
So fun to watch your reaction. Love it. You did great
Thanks! 🤗
Loved your video. And your reaction was great.
Thanks so much Holly! 🤗
Loved your video! Looking forward to the next one💜
Thanks so much Melissa 🤗
I never noticed the bowl lmao! I like your videos. A joy. Take care.
Thanks so much! Yes I’m starting to realize it’s best not to point out stuff like that 😂
I’ve just subscribed to your channel 👏
Love your video! I’m in the middle of clue 2, can’t wait to see what you have to say about this one… and Thanks for reminding me that it was time to feed my starter too!
😂 glad to be of service! I’m almost finished clue 2 now, very curious to see what’s next! Are you on Instagram? Let me know your handle so I can see your colours 👏
Loved your video! So fun, and show us the bread!
He he I might in my next video 😆 thanks so much 🤗
Your video should called " reacting to clue 1" hahaha very funny! Happened the same to me when I first saw it.
😂 I had no idea where it was going. What a fun Clue 1!
I saw your Instagram post and decided to check your RUclips channel out. I'm from the group mentioned in your post and a few of us are also knitting this shawl. You are further along than I am.
I’m so excited to see how yours comes out! Clue one was a big one, I can imagine many are still on it. I was lucky I had extra knitting time this week. Thanks for watching, gave me a boost.
Congratulation for starting your channel, Mel! I really like your bright spirit. Please do more! Signed up already 🎉
You’re so kind! Thanks for the encouragement! 🤗
Loved your video Mel, the lighting and sound are perfect and I can’t wait for your next video!!!
Aww thanks so much! So kind. It doesn’t come naturally but your encouragement might convince me to push past that 🤗
Hi Mel. I’m in Geelong too and also doing the mkal. Also well done you came across as very natural. The loops were a pain to do but the end result was so worth it. 😊
They sure were slow going! I’m curious as to what we do with them at the end 🤔 Another Geelong knitter 👏👏👏 did you go to the show and see all the knits? They were beautiful!
Hi Mel, it was great!
Thanks so much!
Love your video. I make sour dough starter too. Enjoy your kal
Thanks so much! Got to love home made sourdough.
Loved this!!!!!💗💗💗💗
You’re so kind, thanks!
I’m in the Huon Valley 😄. I’ll put some stuff together and I’ll come back to you. 🌷
Thanks so much! Oh that’s a beautiful area 🥰
Very nice ❤️
Thanks so much!
Consider doing podcast on a regular basis
Thanks! Yes I’m going to try out some regular podcasts after the MKAL.
