    Burns passes McRae at 7,43 who rolled out his championship victory. Burns drove safe and the reward was the 2001 title. Wich marked the final on one of the best wrc seasons ever!

    Great video, I’ve never seen it before, I had forgotten how fast Rhondda was a stage. Imagine the 2017 spec cars on this stage with their power, aero and suspension, they would have to put artificial chicanes in to slow them down for sure.

    Always amazes me how much the steering column flexed in the Prodrive Subarus - you can see it wobble around 50mm up and down on everything from McCrae's car in 98 all the way through to Solberg in 04.

    He had such perfect technique, he knows when to correct the slide, when to hold the slide, when to turn to make the perfect cut, and to top it off be so relaxed on his throttle and brake.

      Yep yep, staying calm is an important skill in rally driving. Watching the newer onboards of Loeb (circa Citroen DS3 WRC era) he always looks like he's on another Sunday drive. On one Monte Carlo onboard he actually looks off to the side to admire the scenery lol

    As much as people rave about the Impreza I think the 206 was the better WRC car.

    • @hymerm9441
      @hymerm9441 7 лет назад +3

      Yes but I think it dominated because of It´s shorter length. Very sad Burns had to pull out of the last round in 2003, but even if he had won in Wales Loeb and Solberg had to perform poorly in order to win, something very unlikely. If he had taken 2nd place in Spain instead of retiring he could win the championship without a single victory.

    • @Astro_War
      @Astro_War 7 лет назад +6

      Hymer m I totally agree - if you look at the cars of today's WRC most are 206 sized. I think the Impreza was always one you had to keep an eye on that back end. I do like it as a car though, one of the best sounds even today.

      Its not the oldest rally car, but its probably the most iconic. Even people who dont care for or follow Rally probably recognize the Blue and yellow impreza, as a rally car. Rally fans obviously see most if not all rally cars as iconic. Even the recent ones are awesome to rally fans. But the blue and yellow impreza definitely stands out looks or colour wise. Its so visually striking. Even my wife and my Mother recognize the impreza as a rally car, and they definitely aren't interested in motor sport, at all.

      AESCULAPTORmark3 Absolutely agree. Had a couple of Imprezas myself (both the saloon and the wagon) and can definitely say it’s a beast that always got noticed, if not for the looks the sound of that flat 4.
