I don't know if anyone mentioned this in your previous reaction videos, but Gfriend mvs have an over-arching storyline, starting from their debut. The scene at the start of Crossroads mv actually appears in their Fingertip mv. Also, did you realize that there wasn't a single choreography scene in the mv? Gfriend is known for their choreographies but when they dropped this, I appreciated the fact that they wanted to concentrate more on the story they wanted to tell. ^^
I feel like " crossroads " was a literal crossroad in gfriends sound and theme. The song still kept it's signature gfriend sound (i.e. ost type songs and nostalgic vocals) while also going into the newest era of gfriend ( i.e. darker/eerie concepts and changes in music styles/genre). Not to mention that when this song came out everyone was curious as to how gfriend would change when their company was acquired by Bighit labels and "Crossroads" gave us a gfriend sound with a little something more and went above and what beyond i expected. I personally wouldn't have liked if gfriends first comeback had been apple because it is so different for them, so I think "crossroads" really helped to bridge the gap, so to speak :) Definitely one of my favorite tracks from them 🙆
I do get what you're saying. Apple was so much different from who they were before the acquisition of BigHit. But, I feel that Labyrinth would have been a better comeback than Crossroads, as it was a better representation of their old meets new sound. Though, I get why they went with Crossroads (cuz January is still winter and winter means mellow songs). But I still love Crossroads 😍

Crossroads is my favorite comeback of 2020! I’m an old Buddy from 2016, and Crossroads’ mood is very emotional and longing. It goes well with Time For The Moon Night and Sunrise! Also maybe Rough too! Crossroads is a maturer take on Gfriend from their earlier years. More complex emotions, yet still powerful, less innocence from their school trilogy. Another thing to add! Time is a big motif for Gfriend! Eunha (short hair in MV) has the power to turn back time. You see her doing it in the MV every time she releases a butterfly. My general idea of the MV is that Eunha is trying to heal rifts in Gfriend as a friend group because they have drifted apart after choosing different paths, but Eunha believes they are destined for each other and that they need each other. Apple, to me, was her eventually choosing a path of temptation because she wants them all together again so badly, but she is having trouble figuring out if it was a bad choice or not. She finally decides in Apple’s bridge and final chorus that the path she has chosen is hers regardless of if it was wrong, and she will remain here (she releases all her butterflies in Apple MV; no more going back in time). MAGO is Eunha and all of the girls together again, and embracing their choices and deciding that it doesn’t matter if others judge them.

This sound of orchestra pop is what Gfriend was known for before Apple/Mago. Its use of instrumentation and dramatic dynamics are easily identifiable for Gfriend listeners. Crossroads is the beginning of their transformation, as they transitioned into the new phase of their music growth. As you may know by now, Gfriend MVs are connected through a rather elaborate lore and many items carry special meanings as you sensed. (for example, blue butterfly, glass bead, clock). The song indeed is about how decisions at the crossroads in life can impact a person, particularly their relationship with others, in the context of passing time. Supposedly this MV consists of memories of the girl's lives together and apart. Notice how some were together and some were alone at the end of the MV? Check back the parts of their action in the MV earlier and the connections become clear. This is the concluding chapter of Gfriend's era of "Passionate Melancholy" concept where their songs dealt with more somber themes in life. It's not their "true colors". The term "different side" is right. Crossroads feels like a matured version of one of their most successful track "Rough". MAGO and Apple are them totally embracing their desires. all their songs are their true colors, not just their early releases.
@@francinev3971 I think what 'true colours' was meant to mean is Gfriend's 'signature', which I believe is songs that include Rough, Summer rain, TFTMN, Sunrise and Crossroads. And yes, I agree that it has sound feel very similar to Rough and TFTMN given the orchestral instrumentation.
I recommend watching the MV's in order because they have a storyline and some theories say they even connect to BTS and TXT's storyline. Also, the cool transitions in the last chorus is a reference from their previous era like fingertip and time for the moon night. Lastly, I really recommend watching their dance practices and they got known for their perfect synchronization and powerful knife-like choreography like love whisper(they've danced it in water), Me Gustas Tu and Rough

Gfriend is the first (and until today) the only Idol group under Sourcemusic. So they had no senior who could help them or hype them up. The company back then war really poor, the CEO even sold his house just so they can debut. Thank god they had some Hit songs in Korea and became more and more successful (they still had a very hard time because of some envy people). Over the years Gfriend grew and the company and they really have a family relationship and I'm so happy about that. When Gfriend debuted their concept was powerful innocent then they tried some things and since 2018 their main concept was melancholy but in summer they try different concepts that suit their grow and age. Now they have win 100 music shows award if combined and over 700.000 sales overall. An all time favorite song. Not just for gfriend. Not just for kpop. Just... I love this song so much. Half the time it makes me cry just from the instrumentation and voices. Especially coming out of the bridge - Eunha’s sustained “guide to the skyyyyyyyyyyyyyy”, the crescendo, and then it all drops away and Yuju’s voice comes in a cappela.. it’s like a punch in the heart every time. Since you do graphic design, I suggest getting or just looking up the album art for this whole series of 2020 releases, especially Labyrinth (from which Crossroads comes). It had me thinking of 90’s stuff like David Carson’s work, RayGun and Emigre magazines, and further back into 20th century avant-garde magazine designs. Combined with Crossroads sounding like 70’s tv show theme songs, it’s like someone snuck into my brain and crafted the perfect song and album for me. I literally feel targeted and attacked by Crossroads/Labyrinth. I also suggest checking out the special dance performance of Labyrinth from this same album. Great song and dance.

I recommend you to watch their debut MV untill the recent song (exc the one that you're already watched) Like the others told, GFriend have their own storyline. They have this "A tale of glassbead: previous story" and "A tale of glassbead:butterfly effect" MV to explain more of their story.
Has anyone told you that Gfriend also has their own lore as well. Just like Loona. Like the first 1:20 is actually literal not symbolic. It shows the blue butterfly has the ability to time travel. So all the girls were born with a "Glass Bead"(literally the title of their debut song). Eunha recieved that box of blue butterflies from a magic shop but the shop keeper warned her that if she uses them it would affect her. So let's go back. So she uses one at the beginning, it shows the clock, it shows her now with one less butterfly in the box than it pans to her glass bead that is starting to change and go black.

Did you already know that Gfriend rlly known for their theory & trilogy that had been connected each mv's since debut? Their trilogy is rlly something Buddy can't even describe. They plan all of these trilogy since their debut like 'how they did it to make a GREAT MASTERPIECES like this' if you rlly go through of their trilogy you must be so surprise.
Gfriend songs like like Dreamcatcher songs follow a story from MV to MV so sometime you can be confused of what happen in the MV. GFriend story are very deep and symbolic too. And yeah like others said from Crossroad to Mago, it's a more Mature and a little different Gfriend concept and style since they are now more young woman then teen girls like in their beginning. Also i would like to add that Gfriend songs are more about friends and friendship rather than romantic love and that their songs are genderless.

Really appreciate what you said about the song and how you felt about it because its the feels GFriend was going for! Its the start of the trilogy series (that goes with Apple and Mago) and it goes very heavily with their previous MVs like Eunha falling down in the intro, butterflies, and the glass bead (there is a storyline and Buddys-the fandom-has). I would highly recommend starting from the beginning with Glass Bead and go in order of MVs (you will see the connections)/ This is actually a sound that GFriend is known for. Orchestral sounding-good for shows/anime and even movies. Fingertip, Apple, and Mago are consider songs that are very different for them but still has their "GFriend" style and sound.
Its interesting to hear your thoughts about the MV without knowing the story behind the GFRIEND universe. All their MVs are connected and it would be great if you could explore that in the future!
I hope you can check out the dance practice for Crossroads. There is quite a bit of story in the choreo. There is also a storyline within the symbolism. Eunha falls off the rooftop ( you will see this again in Fingertip) and she uses a butterfly to travel through time and try and change the dark fate that affects her friends. Including Yerin trying to commit suicide in the bathtub. This storyline continues into Apple and Mago as thier choices lead to the darkening of thier glass beads. Cant wait for you to see Sunrise and Time For the Moonight!
I feel like the reason the mv's are symbolic and movie-like, is because gfriend has a whole storyline/own universe. All mv's are connected, some lyrics too. Common things that reoccur are glass beads, butterflies, time, jealousy and friendships.

The MV was shot beautifully for this, really meaningful. This was Gfriend’s “crossroads” or decision in their storyline, whether to face the future or stay in the past and obviously they chose to move forward hence Apple and Mago where they face temptation then accept who they are confidently. The MV style is a first for them, no choreography shown in the MV. But it does have a choreography and it is so good, the formation changes I think are the most impressive. Looking at this reaction video makes me realize how ironic the similarities of Xthina's perspectives mirrors of what BUDDYs all around the world presently feel (after the fact becos everyone knows GFRIEND'S fate by now). GFriend is a six-member South Korean girl group formed by Source Music in 2015. The group consists of Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji. i hope you read this until the end :) Here are some facts about the group and their company, Source Music Ceo sold his house just to debut GFriend where the low budget they've got was used in their gym school uniform and They only had two outfits that time which they were all the same, they only had gloss for make up plus the ugly wall and chair but they still pulled it off. Source Music and Bighit ent. (BTS and TXT company) had a girlgroup before called GLAM but due to some issues they had to disband and both company parted ways until bighit decided to debut bts and source music with gfriend so to say bighit debuts boy groups while source music debuts girlgroups. (Both CEO of both company are really really close friends) Gfriends Music before was hated by alot of people up until now for "sounding the same" when clearly they just have a generic sound to them and that works for them as a girlgroup. Gfriends Concepts started of NOT as cutesy but "POWERFUL INNOCENT to PASSIONATE MELANCHOLY and so much more which gives them off as one of the most versatile group concepts in kpop Gfriend doesnt do Girlcrush in their Songs but they do have some Rap parts which is kinda funny since Gfriend is a HEAVY DANCE and VOCAL GROUP.(they dont have official rappers) They were known for their synchronized dancing and Godly vocals as not to throw shade they just sing live most of the time and not lip sync in stage. about Gfriends music they pretty much use live instruments such as piano, strings, guitars and drums because they DON'T DO EDM! I don't know if anyone mentioned this in your previous reaction videos, but Gfriend mvs have an over-arching storyline, starting from their debut. The scene at the start of Crossroads mv actually appears in their Fingertip mv.
Also, did you realize that there wasn't a single choreography scene in the mv? Gfriend is known for their choreographies but when they dropped this, I appreciated the fact that they wanted to concentrate more on the story they wanted to tell. ^^
I feel like " crossroads " was a literal crossroad in gfriends sound and theme. The song still kept it's signature gfriend sound (i.e. ost type songs and nostalgic vocals) while also going into the newest era of gfriend ( i.e. darker/eerie concepts and changes in music styles/genre). Not to mention that when this song came out everyone was curious as to how gfriend would change when their company was acquired by Bighit labels and "Crossroads" gave us a gfriend sound with a little something more and went above and what beyond i expected. I personally wouldn't have liked if gfriends first comeback had been apple because it is so different for them, so I think "crossroads" really helped to bridge the gap, so to speak :)

I do get what you're saying. Apple was so much different from who they were before the acquisition of BigHit. But, I feel that Labyrinth would have been a better comeback than Crossroads, as it was a better representation of their old meets new sound. Though, I get why they went with Crossroads (cuz January is still winter and winter means mellow songs). But I still love Crossroads 😍

WOW, Love your point of view regarding this MV, an your right this was the end of Gfriends beginning when they come to the crossroad of life, they have a choice to stay the same path, or begin a new path in life, they went new, and basically that is when you came in lol, Labrynth is one you still need to see, that was the precursor to apple, as you noticed there was no choreo in this MV, that was a 1st for them, focus was on story line, there is a dance practice tho I think you would love it, constant movements

Crossroads is my favorite comeback of 2020! I’m an old Buddy from 2016, and Crossroads’ mood is very emotional and longing. It goes well with Time For The Moon Night and Sunrise! Also maybe Rough too! Crossroads is a maturer take on Gfriend from their earlier years. More complex emotions, yet still powerful, less innocence from their school trilogy. Another thing to add! Time is a big motif for Gfriend! Eunha (short hair in MV) has the power to turn back time. You see her doing it in the MV every time she releases a butterfly. My general idea of the MV is that Eunha is trying to heal rifts in Gfriend as a friend group because they have drifted apart after choosing different paths, but Eunha believes they are destined for each other and that they need each other. Apple, to me, was her eventually choosing a path of temptation because she wants them all together again so badly, but she is having trouble figuring out if it was a bad choice or not. She finally decides in Apple’s bridge and final chorus that the path she has chosen is hers regardless of if it was wrong, and she will remain here (she releases all her butterflies in Apple MV; no more going back in time). MAGO is Eunha and all of the girls together again, and embracing their choices and deciding that it doesn’t matter if others judge them.

I am so glad that you found your connection with this MV/song. The producers would love to see your reaction because you are probably the type of audience they intended for. This sound of orchestra pop is what Gfriend was known for before Apple/Mago. Its use of instrumentation and dramatic dynamics are easily identifiable for Gfriend listeners. Crossroads is the beginning of their transformation, as they transitioned into the new phase of their music growth.
As you may know by now, Gfriend MVs are connected through a rather elaborate lore and many items carry special meanings as you sensed. (for example, blue butterfly, glass bead, clock). The song indeed is about how decisions at the crossroads in life can impact a person, particularly their relationship with others, in the context of passing time. Supposedly this MV consists of memories of the girl's lives together and apart. Notice how some were together and some were alone at the end of the MV? Check back the parts of their action in the MV earlier and the connections become clear. This is the concluding chapter of Gfriend's era of "Passionate Melancholy" concept where their songs dealt with more somber themes in life. If you enjoy this sound, you would also like "Sunrise" and "Time For The Moon Night".
Gfriend mentioned that this MV is purposely designed to focus on the story and the girls' acting. There is no choreo cuts in the MV at all, but Gfriend has an outstanding dance practice video of Crossroads, which is probably worth your time as well.

It's not their "true colors". The term "different side" is right. Crossroads feels like a matured version of one of their most successful track "Rough". MAGO and Apple are them totally embracing their desires. all their songs are their true colors, not just their early releases.

I recommend watching the MV's in order because they have a storyline and some theories say they even connect to BTS and TXT's storyline. Also, the cool transitions in the last chorus is a reference from their previous era like fingertip and time for the moon night. Lastly, I really recommend watching their dance practices and they got known for their perfect synchronization and powerful knife-like choreography like love whisper(they've danced it in water), Me Gustas Tu and Rough

This song is only 11 months old though lol. But I catch your drift.
Gfriend is the first (and until today) the only Idol group under Sourcemusic. So they had no senior who could help them or hype them up. The company back then war really poor, the CEO even sold his house just so they can debut. Thank god they had some Hit songs in Korea and became more and more successful (they still had a very hard time because of some envy people). Over the years Gfriend grew and the company and they really have a family relationship and I'm so happy about that. When Gfriend debuted their concept was powerful innocent then they tried some things and since 2018 their main concept was melancholy but in summer they try different concepts that suit their grow and age.
Now they have win 100 music shows award if combined and over 700.000 sales overall.

An all time favorite song. Not just for gfriend. Not just for kpop. Just... I love this song so much. Half the time it makes me cry just from the instrumentation and voices. Especially coming out of the bridge - Eunha’s sustained “guide to the skyyyyyyyyyyyyyy”, the crescendo, and then it all drops away and Yuju’s voice comes in a cappela.. it’s like a punch in the heart every time.
Since you do graphic design, I suggest getting or just looking up the album art for this whole series of 2020 releases, especially Labyrinth (from which Crossroads comes). It had me thinking of 90’s stuff like David Carson’s work, RayGun and Emigre magazines, and further back into 20th century avant-garde magazine designs. Combined with Crossroads sounding like 70’s tv show theme songs, it’s like someone snuck into my brain and crafted the perfect song and album for me. I literally feel targeted and attacked by Crossroads/Labyrinth.
I also suggest checking out the special dance performance of Labyrinth from this same album. Great song and dance.

Has anyone told you that Gfriend also has their own lore as well. Just like Loona. Like the first 1:20 is actually literal not symbolic. It shows the blue butterfly has the ability to time travel. So all the girls were born with a "Glass Bead"(literally the title of their debut song). Eunha recieved that box of blue butterflies from a magic shop but the shop keeper warned her that if she uses them it would affect her. So let's go back. So she uses one at the beginning, it shows the clock, it shows her now with one less butterfly in the box than it pans to her glass bead that is starting to change and go black.

Did you already know that Gfriend rlly known for their theory & trilogy that had been connected each mv's since debut? Their trilogy is rlly something Buddy can't even describe. They plan all of these trilogy since their debut like 'how they did it to make a GREAT MASTERPIECES like this' if you rlly go through of their trilogy you must be so surprise.
Gfriend songs like like Dreamcatcher songs follow a story from MV to MV so sometime you can be confused of what happen in the MV. GFriend story are very deep and symbolic too. And yeah like others said from Crossroad to Mago, it's a more Mature and a little different Gfriend concept and style since they are now more young woman then teen girls like in their beginning. Also i would like to add that Gfriend songs are more about friends and friendship rather than romantic love and that their songs are genderless.

Really appreciate what you said about the song and how you felt about it because its the feels GFriend was going for! Its the start of the trilogy series (that goes with Apple and Mago) and it goes very heavily with their previous MVs like Eunha falling down in the intro, butterflies, and the glass bead (there is a storyline and Buddys-the fandom-has). I would highly recommend starting from the beginning with Glass Bead and go in order of MVs (you will see the connections)/ This is actually a sound that GFriend is known for. Orchestral sounding-good for shows/anime and even movies. Fingertip, Apple, and Mago are consider songs that are very different for them but still has their "GFriend" style and sound.

I hope you can check out the dance practice for Crossroads. There is quite a bit of story in the choreo.
There is also a storyline within the symbolism. Eunha falls off the rooftop ( you will see this again in Fingertip) and she uses a butterfly to travel through time and try and change the dark fate that affects her friends. Including Yerin trying to commit suicide in the bathtub. This storyline continues into Apple and Mago as thier choices lead to the darkening of thier glass beads.

I feel like the reason the mv's are symbolic and movie-like, is because gfriend has a whole storyline/own universe. All mv's are connected, some lyrics too. Common things that reoccur are glass beads, butterflies, time, jealousy and friendships.

Since you're going backwards with the releases I feel like you're appreciating more this comeback. I remember when this came out a lot of people compared it with Time for the moon night. It's interesting to see your reaction going back.
The MV was shot beautifully for this, really meaningful. This was Gfriend’s “crossroads” or decision in their storyline, whether to face the future or stay in the past and obviously they chose to move forward hence Apple and Mago where they face temptation then accept who they are confidently.
The MV style is a first for them, no choreography shown in the MV. But it does have a choreography and it is so good, the formation changes I think are the most impressive.

Looking at this reaction video makes me realize how ironic the similarities of Xthina's perspectives mirrors of what BUDDYs all around the world presently feel (after the fact becos everyone knows GFRIEND'S fate by now). If ONLY time could freeze just like Eunha at the very beginning of the video, then there wouldn't be a "Crossroad" for them to scatter. Such a story of GFRIEND that will make you fall in love and then be hurt by it. And you know, THAT kind of pain, you'll NEVER forget.

GFriend is a six-member South Korean girl group formed by Source Music in 2015. The group consists of Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji. i hope you read this until the end :)
Here are some facts about the group and their company, Source Music Ceo sold his house just to debut GFriend where the low budget they've got was used in their gym school uniform and They only had two outfits that time which they were all the same, they only had gloss for make up plus the ugly wall and chair but they still pulled it off. Source Music and Bighit ent. (BTS and TXT company) had a girlgroup before called GLAM but due to some issues they had to disband and both company parted ways until bighit decided to debut bts and source music with gfriend so to say bighit debuts boy groups while source music debuts girlgroups. (Both CEO of both company are really really close friends)
Gfriends Music before was hated by alot of people up until now for "sounding the same" when clearly they just have a generic sound to them and that works for them as a girlgroup. Gfriends Concepts started of NOT as cutesy but "POWERFUL INNOCENT to PASSIONATE MELANCHOLY and so much more which gives them off as one of the most versatile group concepts in kpop Gfriend doesnt do Girlcrush in their Songs but they do have some Rap parts which is kinda funny since Gfriend is a HEAVY DANCE and VOCAL GROUP.(they dont have official rappers) They were known for their synchronized dancing and Godly vocals as not to throw shade they just sing live most of the time and not lip sync in stage.
about Gfriends music they pretty much use live instruments such as piano, strings, guitars and drums because they DON'T DO EDM! (like EDM is so mainstream in kpop already you can clearly just find them in a LOT of boy/girl groups) its just that they have their own sound their own color that people think their songs sound the same but its really not they just have this sound pattern and since they dont have much budget before they only have 1 or 2 producers which pretty much made their whole discography until 2019

I really miss this kind of sound from Gfriend... 回:Walpurgis Night doesnt really have any of the "Orchestral pop" songs. I understand that they wont use these type of songs for title tracks, but i hope they put more on the b-sides bcs some OG Buddy really really loves the Orchestral one
