You have a crazy amount of endurance to have mastered every mission of every stage to the point where you can get every emblem in under 9 hours. Congratulations on this monumental achievement.

The best way to use Stamina is not to spam it. It's not very noticeable unless you use up TONS of Stamina, but the more Stamina the Chao has to use up when you cheer, the faster it drains. So it's best to time it when the boost is just ending. Furthermore, I highly recommend studying how many boosts your Chao can safely use in every course. With this in mind, the best times to cheer in your Chao's case are - Anytime it is Flying. The speed your Chao flies far exceeds that of Swimming, so boosting the lateral speed and distance of your Chao's flight helps tons. - When your Chao trips, boosting makes it get up faster. This by far saves the most time than anything else. Timing it when the Chao is on the ground will be most effective. This *only* applies to tripping, though. Not like, getting spooked or falling in a pitfall. - Timing it for when the boost ends right after jumping in a pool. When your Chao jumps, its speed gets locked (except for tripping). This includes the speed it gets when boosting, and boosting while it is already in the air doesn't change its speed. So it skips a good portion of water if you time the boost to end right after it jumps. - This sounds silly, but boosting into a cliff also very minutely pushes your Chao upwards as it climbs. This might only be noticeable, let alone doing anything, if your Chao is *really* fast, though. It might save like, a frame or two with your Chao's speed. The Jack-in-the-boxes are highly known to be rigged, because Steam has broken RNG. Not only that, but them and the pitfalls are supposed to check Luck, but they don't and assume you have 0, except in Challenge Races and stuff where the pits assume you have very high Luck. Jacks are about 5/8 to happen, Pits are about 75% to trigger with 0 Luck. The only thing you can do to "help" is boosting or pausing, which changes the RNG (boosting moreso). Of course, this is only helpful if you notice it happening consistently in the same race, because every Chao's stats including the opponents also effect RNG.
So in a way, the Chao races aren't just all watching what unfolds, but also a potentially minute strategy minigame with where to time your boosts and such?
This may sound insane, but I used to watch SA2B speedruns all the time back in HS (Hero, Dark and 180 emblems) and now I'm going back at it, amazing run mate, congrats!

2:11:00 I was 10 when this game came out and I'm so happy that people born after SA2 enjoy it as much as I do. Playing the Adventure games at the same time Dragon Ball Z was airing was incredible. The build up to a world-ending conflict was like nothing I'd ever seen before.
As much as I loved SA2 as a kid, I was too young to understand the intricacies and mechanics, so to see this 100% as an adult is like a dream come true for me. Very well done!
Finally, finally someone in the Sonic speedrunning community has the courage and the stone to do the 180 full run. I’m tired of going onto twitch and seeing this plebs do hero story/dark story or any%. This is what real sonic runners do, they run the full 180. Big ups for this run, definitely hitting sub button.

I've come to say, this will be the only game I will ever attempt to 100% ever in my life (I'm ok with not getting an A on all levels in story though) seeing this is giving me huge encouragement that what I'm doing is possible. Excellent run.

If I get the chance to play this game again, I'll definitely try for the 100%, the only other game I ever beat 100% was Mario 64 because it's not that difficult imo.
Well this didn't age well, in terms of saying getting A Rank in every level. Because apparently that's required, I am halfway done but due to how time consuming and stressful it could be I've been taking my time and taking long breaks. Not looking forward to the space levels

Yeah, it's a wrong warp caused from wonky ways the goal works for kart racing and Cannon's Core. finish Cannon's Core M2 on any character than sonic. Finish a kart racing stage for whichever mission you want to have the wrong warp for and finish that stage. for example: I finish the stage as rouge in M2 finish R101 M3 and it will send me to knuckles in Cannon's Core M3. If I did it as eggman it would warp me as rouge and so on.

@@501st_guy I'm not too sure if it's possible on dreamcast but I believe so, very rarely do glitches from newer ports not appear on older versions of the game. I'm assuming it'll work but I have no dreamcast to test.
Man if they were to ever remake this game or just release it again, id change these things. -Fix the audio mixing across the board. -Make the camera better and easier to manage/control -Make the radar like the one in SA1 -Give Tails and Eggman a few new abilities for their mechs to make fights more interesting (don't make them overpowered) -Set lightspeed dash to R3 -Make those damn car chases more fun with a boost or something (or just totally scrap them) -Keep the voices the same. Don't redub with current cast, they just wouldn't work That is all. Their are other things I'd appreciate such as Chao Garden expansion and new DLC levels but that's what should at LEAST be changed when dealing with another re-release for this game.

Hahahaha, Chao take a very long time indeed! Mainly the races (which are around 2h10m) really bloat the run otherwise 180 would be a much more palatable 6.5 hour run which I think many more people would be willing to do.

I started three days ago with Sonic Adventure 2 and I found you because I don't get A Rang on Tails and Rouges Cart Levels. Thank you for helping me. :D But I still practise the A Rang in M4 on Route 280. :D I like to have every A Rang because I really like to have 100% in this game. I only started to play bc of the Chiao Garden.. :D And Sorry for my english. I am not a native speeker.
That section of Crazy Gadget where you can fall through the green mist and die, but avoid it somehow has always creeped me out. I don't know why they didn't just make it so you go out in space. I just don't know how to describe it exactly. The Any% run of that stage and Final Rush are insane. The Ark in Shadow the Hedgehog actually has a similar trick. Sky Rail, despite being one of the shortest stages in the game, has quite a few different routes and items to find. I'm suprised the shortcut through Final Chase doesn't have a death plane that seems as difficult to avoid as Sonic's Ark stages. I still have yet to run vertically upwards in Metal Harbor, Green Forest and Final Rush though. I can somewhat consistently do the Bounce Bracelet wall glitch, but I once did it and clipped out of bounds in Crazy Gadget where there was no death plane, so I was falling upside-down forever. The stars even despawned, so it was all pitch-black except for Sonic himself. Another thing that creeps me out are the Vulcan Fighters that turn around and start shooting at you directly in Radical Highway and Mission Street. The former even has and Omochao that says: "If you see it, run!" At least it's easy to avoid in the latter, especially if you use the crushing platforms shortcut. I did think it was dumb how your homing missle despawned on it though. I've done the lock-on bonus point glitch in Sand Ocean a couple of times on accident, but I didn't know you could whistle to do it multiple times. I think I once did it on the upwards section of Lost Colony. I knew about the barrel trick for points in Cosmic Wall, as that's pretty easy to do and likely intentional, especially for Hard Mode, but you can also lock onto the green and orange objects and hover away until your homing missles despawn, but you'll still get the points as long as you don't break them. You can do it on enemies too, but they'll be gone permanently even if you didn't actually destroy them. It's at that section of the stage you skipped after clipping through the wall instead of taking the rift where the spinning spiked balls are. I have no idea why doing the Spiral Upper in Pumpkin Hill Hard Mode gives you the piece without digging. For some reason the one room in Death Chamber where a key can be but the radar doesn't go off without actually entering it is because the room itself is far away from the rest of the stage if you were to fly out of bounds, where it's too far away, unlike the other rooms you dig into. The Red Bomb Robots which are literally only in Meteor Herd Hard Mode and nowhere else I think will actually regenerate their bombs if you ignore them and come back. I think there's another one if you run around the ground, and I read somewhere that there's one where you get the sunglasses on previous missions, but I haven't actually checked there myself. I've done the glitch that takes you from Route 101 to Cannon's Core a few times on accident, but was never sure why it happened. I remember actually doing it on my friend's SA2B copy, and being really suprised that simply getting a Perfect with collecting enough rings gave you an A-rank, regardless of your score. I've only gone to Rouge's section though, and the first mission. As for the Chao Garden, I thought that Stamina was important for Karate, but I guess not. That, along with Run and Power were all the stats I focused on. I still don't know why some Chao take longer to open the boxes at the start of the Jewel Race courses. Also... EAT THE DAMN FRUIT
i recently learned how insane it is to attempt this run. jesus christ dude. optimizing a game for eight hours straight seems like hell. doubt anyone would be crazy enough to attempt to best this time. 😭
Yeah it's certainly a hard run! That being said there are a few people capable of beating this time especially since lots of crazy new strats have been found! (Save over 10 minutes!) One thing I've learned about speedrunning is never say never hahaha

I know this is an old video, but if you're still having trouble menu-ing, you should use the dpad instead of the analog stick. Since the stick can register multiple selections with one movement depending on the speed of the flick, it can throw you off, but dpad menu selection is much tighter, more precise, and faster IMO in every menu of anything ever. Since it's digital selections, it works better to use a digital input. Also, this is ridiculously impressive, even just 100%ing the game in one sitting [or 100%ing it at all] is a crazy achievement, but doing it all super fast and keeping your cool and concentration for nearly 8 full hours?! That's really something dude, nice work.

Each time you ran down to the goal in "City Escape", the truck got out of picture quicker on first four, but tried its drat hardest to keep up with you. But in the end, you outran that monster.

Congrats on this record! Do you think you'll ever try to get 171 emblems to Games Done Quick? It would still be interesting, but would cut out the three or so hours of Chao raising.
Thanks for the congratulations, I would not try to submit 171 to GDQ as I don't believe it's the best for it, I believe it's too long of a platforming game which are very represented and would have to push out many shorter runs to make the time for it as it is a 5-5.5 hour run without chao. I think a shorter demonstration of A ranks would be better to submit like maybe all stories or the hero story all missions run I did for a side event for GDQ. Sorry for the long answer... TL:DR - I probably won't because I think it's too long of a sonic run to ever be accepted and even if it did I would feel bad taking up so much time hahaha
@@Traitor1 That's alright! I do think that a run of All A-Ranks for each story mode would be super cool! Edit: I think that the GDQ staff might allow 171 as a finale run. They've allowed runs that are around 6 hours for finales (a perfect example is Puwexil's 100% Chrono Trigger Speedrun). Another thing: is the only difference between 171 and all A-Ranks whether or not you do Boss Rush and Kart Race? Edit 2: I also realized that it would cut out having to watch cutscenes, as well as the three credits emblems. If I'm not mistaken, the entire run would be done through level select, right?

Thx something to watch wall grinding blox fruits for 8 hours. Also Rouge? 5:50:41 yeah i know the game mechanics ive 100% the game before. Only once which was about 3 weeks ago. Oh great once this ends i gotta find another long video.
The TLDR is that it's a wrong warp caused by the game not ending the stage properly so I'm able to skip about a minute each time I do that (skip rouge's section of cannon's core as well as have a faster route through tails and eggman's section) hope that helps!

Unlike the console versions, the PC version doesn't randomize the stats of the chao in the garden. It's just based off of the character that first enters. So if we enter the garden as sonic first there is the egg near the waterfall that will always give us the stats we need!

Thank you I'm really proud of this run! I jump on the last box for Hot Shot because they have 2 different death animations, 1 in the air and one on the ground. The one in the air is a second faster when you also include the time taken for Hot shot to get into the air (You get 22 with air death vs. a 23.4 with a ground death assuming you played them both correctly)

The best way to use Stamina is not to spam it. It's not very noticeable unless you use up TONS of Stamina, but the more Stamina the Chao has to use up when you cheer, the faster it drains. So it's best to time it when the boost is just ending.
Furthermore, I highly recommend studying how many boosts your Chao can safely use in every course. With this in mind, the best times to cheer in your Chao's case are
- Anytime it is Flying. The speed your Chao flies far exceeds that of Swimming, so boosting the lateral speed and distance of your Chao's flight helps tons.
- When your Chao trips, boosting makes it get up faster. This by far saves the most time than anything else. Timing it when the Chao is on the ground will be most effective. This *only* applies to tripping, though. Not like, getting spooked or falling in a pitfall.
- Timing it for when the boost ends right after jumping in a pool. When your Chao jumps, its speed gets locked (except for tripping). This includes the speed it gets when boosting, and boosting while it is already in the air doesn't change its speed. So it skips a good portion of water if you time the boost to end right after it jumps.
- This sounds silly, but boosting into a cliff also very minutely pushes your Chao upwards as it climbs. This might only be noticeable, let alone doing anything, if your Chao is *really* fast, though. It might save like, a frame or two with your Chao's speed.
The Jack-in-the-boxes are highly known to be rigged, because Steam has broken RNG. Not only that, but them and the pitfalls are supposed to check Luck, but they don't and assume you have 0, except in Challenge Races and stuff where the pits assume you have very high Luck. Jacks are about 5/8 to happen, Pits are about 75% to trigger with 0 Luck. The only thing you can do to "help" is boosting or pausing, which changes the RNG (boosting moreso). Of course, this is only helpful if you notice it happening consistently in the same race, because every Chao's stats including the opponents also effect RNG.

Playing the Adventure games at the same time Dragon Ball Z was airing was incredible. The build up to a world-ending conflict was like nothing I'd ever seen before.

As much as I loved SA2 as a kid, I was too young to understand the intricacies and mechanics, so to see this 100% as an adult is like a dream come true for me. Very well done!
Finally, finally someone in the Sonic speedrunning community has the courage and the stone to do the 180 full run. I’m tired of going onto twitch and seeing this plebs do hero story/dark story or any%. This is what real sonic runners do, they run the full 180. Big ups for this run, definitely hitting sub button.

I've come to say, this will be the only game I will ever attempt to 100% ever in my life (I'm ok with not getting an A on all levels in story though) seeing this is giving me huge encouragement that what I'm doing is possible. Excellent run.

@@Traitor1 Thanks, I'm at 155 emblems as of now. Over a 3 week span, looking forward to focusing on Chao world. I'm saving that for last, however I'm grinding for rings on city escape as a brain break from difficult space levels.
If I get the chance to play this game again, I'll definitely try for the 100%, the only other game I ever beat 100% was Mario 64 because it's not that difficult imo.
Well this didn't age well, in terms of saying getting A Rank in every level. Because apparently that's required, I am halfway done but due to how time consuming and stressful it could be I've been taking my time and taking long breaks. Not looking forward to the space levels

Yeah, it's a wrong warp caused from wonky ways the goal works for kart racing and Cannon's Core.
finish Cannon's Core M2 on any character than sonic. Finish a kart racing stage for whichever mission you want to have the wrong warp for and finish that stage. for example: I finish the stage as rouge in M2 finish R101 M3 and it will send me to knuckles in Cannon's Core M3. If I did it as eggman it would warp me as rouge and so on.
@@Traitor1 Oh wow that's something but is it possible for the dreamcast version I guess gamecube battle works for that too but yeah I don't know a lot about the Sonic Adventure games in the speed running like the 180 emblems there's not a lot of this on RUclips but thanks for a long video
@@501st_guy I'm not too sure if it's possible on dreamcast but I believe so, very rarely do glitches from newer ports not appear on older versions of the game. I'm assuming it'll work but I have no dreamcast to test.

Man if they were to ever remake this game or just release it again, id change these things.
-Fix the audio mixing across the board.
-Make the camera better and easier to manage/control
-Make the radar like the one in SA1
-Give Tails and Eggman a few new abilities for their mechs to make fights more interesting (don't make them overpowered)
-Set lightspeed dash to R3
-Make those damn car chases more fun with a boost or something (or just totally scrap them)
-Keep the voices the same. Don't redub with current cast, they just wouldn't work
That is all. Their are other things I'd appreciate such as Chao Garden expansion and new DLC levels but that's what should at LEAST be changed when dealing with another re-release for this game.

Hahahaha, Chao take a very long time indeed! Mainly the races (which are around 2h10m) really bloat the run otherwise 180 would be a much more palatable 6.5 hour run which I think many more people would be willing to do.

I remember when i do my 180 emblems run, I learn about knux/rouge tv screan tips only on last rouge stage on last challenge. It was brutal to find them all
I started three days ago with Sonic Adventure 2 and I found you because I don't get A Rang on Tails and Rouges Cart Levels. Thank you for helping me. :D But I still practise the A Rang in M4 on Route 280. :D I like to have every A Rang because I really like to have 100% in this game. I only started to play bc of the Chiao Garden.. :D

That section of Crazy Gadget where you can fall through the green mist and die, but avoid it somehow has always creeped me out. I don't know why they didn't just make it so you go out in space. I just don't know how to describe it exactly. The Any% run of that stage and Final Rush are insane. The Ark in Shadow the Hedgehog actually has a similar trick.
Sky Rail, despite being one of the shortest stages in the game, has quite a few different routes and items to find. I'm suprised the shortcut through Final Chase doesn't have a death plane that seems as difficult to avoid as Sonic's Ark stages. I still have yet to run vertically upwards in Metal Harbor, Green Forest and Final Rush though. I can somewhat consistently do the Bounce Bracelet wall glitch, but I once did it and clipped out of bounds in Crazy Gadget where there was no death plane, so I was falling upside-down forever. The stars even despawned, so it was all pitch-black except for Sonic himself.
Another thing that creeps me out are the Vulcan Fighters that turn around and start shooting at you directly in Radical Highway and Mission Street. The former even has and Omochao that says: "If you see it, run!" At least it's easy to avoid in the latter, especially if you use the crushing platforms shortcut. I did think it was dumb how your homing missle despawned on it though.
I've done the lock-on bonus point glitch in Sand Ocean a couple of times on accident, but I didn't know you could whistle to do it multiple times. I think I once did it on the upwards section of Lost Colony.
I knew about the barrel trick for points in Cosmic Wall, as that's pretty easy to do and likely intentional, especially for Hard Mode, but you can also lock onto the green and orange objects and hover away until your homing missles despawn, but you'll still get the points as long as you don't break them. You can do it on enemies too, but they'll be gone permanently even if you didn't actually destroy them. It's at that section of the stage you skipped after clipping through the wall instead of taking the rift where the spinning spiked balls are.
I have no idea why doing the Spiral Upper in Pumpkin Hill Hard Mode gives you the piece without digging. For some reason the one room in Death Chamber where a key can be but the radar doesn't go off without actually entering it is because the room itself is far away from the rest of the stage if you were to fly out of bounds, where it's too far away, unlike the other rooms you dig into. The Red Bomb Robots which are literally only in Meteor Herd Hard Mode and nowhere else I think will actually regenerate their bombs if you ignore them and come back. I think there's another one if you run around the ground, and I read somewhere that there's one where you get the sunglasses on previous missions, but I haven't actually checked there myself.
I've done the glitch that takes you from Route 101 to Cannon's Core a few times on accident, but was never sure why it happened. I remember actually doing it on my friend's SA2B copy, and being really suprised that simply getting a Perfect with collecting enough rings gave you an A-rank, regardless of your score. I've only gone to Rouge's section though, and the first mission.
As for the Chao Garden, I thought that Stamina was important for Karate, but I guess not. That, along with Run and Power were all the stats I focused on. I still don't know why some Chao take longer to open the boxes at the start of the Jewel Race courses. Also...

i recently learned how insane it is to attempt this run. jesus christ dude. optimizing a game for eight hours straight seems like hell. doubt anyone would be crazy enough to attempt to best this time. 😭
Yeah it's certainly a hard run! That being said there are a few people capable of beating this time especially since lots of crazy new strats have been found! (Save over 10 minutes!)

I know this is an old video, but if you're still having trouble menu-ing, you should use the dpad instead of the analog stick. Since the stick can register multiple selections with one movement depending on the speed of the flick, it can throw you off, but dpad menu selection is much tighter, more precise, and faster IMO in every menu of anything ever. Since it's digital selections, it works better to use a digital input.
Also, this is ridiculously impressive, even just 100%ing the game in one sitting [or 100%ing it at all] is a crazy achievement, but doing it all super fast and keeping your cool and concentration for nearly 8 full hours?! That's really something dude, nice work.

Each time you ran down to the goal in "City Escape", the truck got out of picture quicker on first four, but tried its drat hardest to keep up with you. But in the end, you outran that monster.

Congrats on this record! Do you think you'll ever try to get 171 emblems to Games Done Quick? It would still be interesting, but would cut out the three or so hours of Chao raising.
Thanks for the congratulations, I would not try to submit 171 to GDQ as I don't believe it's the best for it, I believe it's too long of a platforming game which are very represented and would have to push out many shorter runs to make the time for it as it is a 5-5.5 hour run without chao. I think a shorter demonstration of A ranks would be better to submit like maybe all stories or the hero story all missions run I did for a side event for GDQ.

TL:DR - I probably won't because I think it's too long of a sonic run to ever be accepted and even if it did I would feel bad taking up so much time hahaha

Edit: I think that the GDQ staff might allow 171 as a finale run. They've allowed runs that are around 6 hours for finales (a perfect example is Puwexil's 100% Chrono Trigger Speedrun). Another thing: is the only difference between 171 and all A-Ranks whether or not you do Boss Rush and Kart Race?
Edit 2: I also realized that it would cut out having to watch cutscenes, as well as the three credits emblems. If I'm not mistaken, the entire run would be done through level select, right?
This was an 8 hour run. 100% in one shot world record. What if you messed up? You would have to restart 8 hours of gameplay all over again?

The TLDR is that it's a wrong warp caused by the game not ending the stage properly so I'm able to skip about a minute each time I do that (skip rouge's section of cannon's core as well as have a faster route through tails and eggman's section) hope that helps!

How do you know your Chao will have a high enough run stat? Like how do you avoid getting an E run Chao and having it kill your run?
Unlike the console versions, the PC version doesn't randomize the stats of the chao in the garden. It's just based off of the character that first enters. So if we enter the garden as sonic first there is the egg near the waterfall that will always give us the stats we need!

I jump on the last box for Hot Shot because they have 2 different death animations, 1 in the air and one on the ground. The one in the air is a second faster when you also include the time taken for Hot shot to get into the air (You get 22 with air death vs. a 23.4 with a ground death assuming you played them both correctly)
