At 16:20 those are insect traps! Used likely by entomologists to collect beetles or any other species of interest as they fly into the cones and fall down to the bottom where there is a bucket of antifreeze which preserves them. They're great for trying to monitor populations and/ or movement of potential invasive species.
You are by far the most personable and humble of all the "vanlifers". I've appreciated seeing the country thru your eyes. Now, you're in my homeland of ALASKA! Truly "God's country!" You'll find that Alaskans are the kindest, most "un-hurried," and accommodating people in America. Enjoy!
Great video as always Ryan, also that funnel thing that you showed off after you got to your camp spot is a multi-funnel trap, designed for monitoring and controlling forestry beetles and other bugs/pests
Thanks for showing us Whitehorse. A few years ago I had a visit here in France from a fellow psychiatrist and motorbike rider who was based in Whitehorse and provided psychiatric care for the whole of the Yukon. He spent a lot of time in a small two-seater plane (he isn't a pilot) to get to remote areas to do outpatient clinics. I never got to visit him there in Canada, but now I've seen your video, and especially the amazing views of the mountains, I can understand why he liked working there!
Wow. Whitehorse doesn't look like anything one would expect along the Alaskan Highway. You're right, it looks very peaceful. Glad to be "along" for the ride. Learning a lot.
How beautiful. I felt so relaxed and pretended to smell all the smells-butter chicken and fresh Canadian air 😃. Thanks, Ryan, for sharing your ongoing journey.
love the drone shots! the mountains look stunning 🥰 I appreciate all the shots you get and how much you churn out content. been a viewer for a year. you should do a video where you do a vegetarian recipe for fun.. cook tofu!
I can’t even imagine what it’s gonna feel like to finally arrive to Alaska for you !! I found your Chanel a few months before you started this up and it’s just insane how far you’ve come in the best ways. Chanel’s video production / quality / editing / growth etc could go on but I’m sure others will sound off and let you know in following+ previous comments. Keep it up man ! Cheers 🍻
The log cabin skyscrapers are certainly interesting, but I wouldn't want to live so close to all those electrical wires, not to mention not trusting the balconies, as you said. Also, hat river water looks so clean compared to most rivers we see in the U.S. The plane weathervane was awesome! Also loved the views of that gorgeous area, and you do a great job with the drone.
Ryan - for your little fire stove, buy you a box of “Tumbleweed” fire starters. Just google it you will see them. It will solve your problems. Or, smear a cotton ball liberally in a Vaseline jar. Out that under your tinder and light it. Both of the above give you a good 3-5 minute solid flame depending on air humidity / dryness.
I apologize if you have but if not you should make a video showing how you get your oil changed and overall maintenance on the van as you travel. I’m looking at doing some traveling like this with my wife when the kids get older. I also want to thank you for sharing this adventure because it’s been great to watch and am personally looking forward to stopping at some of the awesome places you have shown us!! Safe travels
Hey man just wanted to let you know I haven’t missed none of your videos. This one by far is like #1 so far. The Las camp ground you were at was awesome. The vain that you showed was Awesome and connected to your trip to Iceland. The 3 story log cabin was awesome also. The cooking of the chicken was cool. I have used one of the little wood burning stoved before. Safe travels man. Looking forward to the next part of the trip
Ryan, that device looks like a DIY Rain Chain. “The purpose of a rain chain is to help direct water safely from your roof to a drainage area or water collection system on the ground.” Perhaps someone frequents the site and puts a bucket under there to get some fresh rain water.
Love the vibe and appreciate you having us along for the journey! Way to keep it going through this whole journey! Looking forward to Alaska and beyond!
Im sure im not alone in saying, thank u for taking us along on this amazing journey!!! Some of us will never be able to see the things an places youve taken us . I appreciate you. Absolutely one if not my favorite utuber!!!❤
Excellent job of finding remote camping spots! People traveling to Alaska should never-ever pay for the most spectacular spots …because they are everywhere! Safe travels!
I am absolutely intrigued by you and your journey! Love the content and your voice. Your narrative is calming, so informative & entertaining. ✌🏻 & ❤ Edit- and your new drone footage takes it to new HEIGHTS 🙌🏻
Have you considered flat mounting your Starlink Dishy? That way you can do a semi-permanent mount on top of the van? There's also a unit that converts it to not need 110v, I believe is 12v IIRC. It sounds like it also maintains connection while driving, even with a small amount of tree cover.
Ryan i am an old ex Pittsburgher living in Florida. I watch a lot of Van Life videos but you are, by far, my favorite. I live vicariously through your videos. You have a nice positive vibe about you. Hope you find this lifestyle enjoyable for a long time. Your production and commentary are 1st class. Good luck as you continue your journey.
It's so nice and relaxing to watch your road trip vids... such a humble person with a great personality... Thanks for sharing your road trip of the Great White North - Canada's Arctic Archipelago... such natural beauty!
Get some pic coils for the skeeters! It runs them right off. Alternatively, peppermint spray. It's non-toxic and smells wonderful. There are DC-3s that are still used by mining companies and other businesses. There are a lot of DC-3 bodies that companies will purchase them and have them rebuilt with turbo prop engines. You should probably be able to find one in your area hitch a ride on for a price. 😊 It's July. Salmon are running. Where's your fishing pole? Want a fish that fights? 😊
Just started watching your channel and I think I’ve seen 80% ? of them and enjoyed it a lot. I especially like watching the cooking segments. It’s just amazing how you cook awesome dishes in your van. It inspired me to cook more at home. 😂 Can’t wait to see your next video. Thank you!
Ryan, you are a blessed man. I have been enjoying your trips since about day one when you first started posting these vids. I appreciate you taking us along for the ride. I am unable to go to these places you travel to so this helps me feel like I have been there. Thank you!
Catching up after our return from Anchorage/Valdez to our home in Whitehorse. Fun to see your trip through our home town and grateful that you have shared the beauty of Yukon with your viewers. The next day you will get some of the worst roads on your trip to Fairbanks - frost heaves and potholes are wicked til Tok. Did you do the Skinny Raven half marathon in Anchorage? - thought we saw you there. Safe travels -
My wife and I got hooked on your videos recently and only caught up the current ones with your last video. Couldn't wait for this update on your travels (will watch with my wife tomorrow)
@@captainkane6498 Great comeback! 1. Ryan would care,. And Apparently you cared enough to comment. But then again, your time is worthless, shit for brains!
Ryan, After this Alaska trip I think you should travel the country doing more in depth stories of intriguing stuff all over. Was telling my girlfriend I’d sit and watch you discuss the history of the toilet. Keep it going!
Dude, how long before you drive off with the starlink on your roof. Put a big fat sticky note on your windshield when you put it up cause its only a matter of time.
Always impressed by the drone footage and the work that must go into that. Stop, launch, drive, film, recover, and then actually drive for real.. uhg. Also - nonchalantly driving past bear like it's routine.. hah!
Hello Ryan, I have been following you for a very, very long time which means you have been in my prayers for a very, very long time, and really enjoyed every minute because you make it so interesting, never boring. Every time I see you sit down to play your games I think about my youngest daughter because she have been a gamer since she was 12 years old, with her first system Atari, and still gaming at the age 42, she plays with a lot of different people all over the world and enjoy every minute of it. You will continue to be in my prayers, please continue to be safe and careful. I am so pleased to see how you have handled yourself on your travel journey to Alaska, what a Blessing. Looking forward to your next video. God Bless Love🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
As a 51 year old, pumping gas first and then paying was the norm until not that long ago when gas prices skyrocketed and people would drive off without paying. It's also the reason why I now have to endure advertisements while pumping gas because few people ever go inside the gas station anymore. Love the series so much I'm considering my own future travels when I retire.
Recently found your channel and have been binging bunch of your videos, great stuff dude!!! I’m from Bmore myself so it’s cool to follow along your adventure!
Never really comment but absolutely love the vids especially this one. Scenes and camerawork I just absolutely beautiful. Can wait for your next video!! ❤😁👍🏽
I've been following this journey since very early...like Day 2 early. I just got about two weeks behind because of work, so I was stoked to see that you went through Whitehorse. Good Lord willing and the Creek don't rise, we are actually heading up there soon for a kayak camping trip on the Yukon River! Pretty stoked, to say the least.
So I found your channel yesterday and have now watched probably 10 of your vlogs?! Very enjoyable, relaxing too. You’ve got a great personality my friend. Glad I found ya!

That mountain view was breathtaking! I gasped when you first showed it. Wow!! Spectacular!

I appreciate your honesty on the intro shot. Most of us would have guessed it was a fake wake up shot, but your comment was funny.
Make sure to check if open fires are allowed wherever you camp as there are so many fire bans right now and the fines are steep. Great video!
the closer you get to those mountains Ryan, the more chance you might bump into @forestyforest - that would be cool! Great trip so far.
