Bolt Action needs more attention. Such a fun ruleset.
Dave might only have few games in this system, but his experience in warhammer 40k does help.
Man that American Reinforce Platoon sure looks like a German Reinforced Platoon. And now that I think about it, that German Reinforced Platoon sure looks like an American Reinforced Platoon...
That's what I'm saying
Just the intro but I'm sure you saw the full video
So awesome to see MWG still going strong over all these years.
Oh yeah !!! Another Bolt Action battle report ! 👍🏻
Love seeing bolt Action being played by you guys! Keep it up!
Bolt Action is my current favourite game. The randomness of the turn mechanics adds a genuine excitement to every stage of the game. I really hope to see a lot more bolt action on this channel. Cheers
This game is absolutely a blast to play everybody- give it a shot you won’t regret it!
Fun game. Food for thought. Dave shouldn't have been able to shoot through his flame thrower unit. Always enjoyable
Watch as a Warlord employee's brain melts slowly.
Awesome video, please keep them coming.
Excellent battle report! I much prefer this type of coverage, rather than a summary after each move type. Why? Because it is much more entertaining and helps the viewer join in on the 'nail biting' moments. This is especially beneficial during this time of isolation from actually being present with other players. Thank you and am very much looking forward to watching more reports like this. 😉
So epic and stoked to see these battle reports! They're fun to watch and really showcase the amount of fun you can have across a whole range of experience levels together in a single game. The system is hard to cheese and no matter what happens, you always feel like you have a chance to find victory in any game you play. :)
Really nice! I'm currently starting with Bolt Action and this Reports really teaches well how to play. Please more!
I find these Bolt Action video's really enjoyable to watch more than some of the other game systems 🙂
Agreed!
Yeah alot easier to understand whats going on. 40k is over complicated imo
What a great game! I have watched a lot of Bolt Action on youtube a lot of good games and players, this is hands down the best game I've watched. The board was well set up the armies well thought out, and I don't know when I've seen tactics and strategy so clearly explained and so well executed. And you guys are fun to watch...great work!
really happy to see more than the "normal" 1000 points per side
😀
i love this. more table top strat games please!
I am so looking forward to more of Dave playing Bolt Action… he may be new to the system, but years of skill developed by playing tabletop and his BANTER are both unbeatable
That was Dave bro lmao
Love seeing bat reps for Bolt Action it's a great game and hope you play it more often.
Thank you for a great report
Man, I just got into Bolt Action after a random interaction at a local butcher's shop (ask me about it if you want lol) , and can't get enough of these battle reports 😂
Bolt Action seems like it is made for a campaign with upgrades and downgrades. Please make this happen!
so fun to watch. i hope bolt action becomes more popular on MWG
GG, Always good to see Dave doing Bat-Reps even if it isn't 40K or AoS.
This BatRep was a lot of fun. Love your guys bolt action BatReps. Would like to see you guys try out warlords victory at sea sometime. And May have been just the angle of the camera but not sure if towards the end the half track and other German squad would have been able to shoot the Americans in front of the flamethrower team. Because the flamethrower would have been within 1” of your firing line of sight. But like I said might have only been the camera angle.
I agree. Can't make that shot because the flamethrower was in the way.
I love bolt action. Literally no one within 100 miles play though. I need an AI for this game.
Same problem
You could also play it online via Tabletop Simulator. Might not be the same, but still better than not playing at all.
Where y'all at?
This is so cool to see, randomly stumbled upon Bolt Action a few days ago and am super intrigued. Me and a group of friends are planning on trying out some games using proxies before buying anything but I got drawn to the USMC pretty hard.
Friend and I have taken the plunge. Poland and Germans!
@@davidclayton3476 two of my buddies are going US Airborne, one is going Soviets and the other wants to play Italy.
I waited for this!!!
awesome to see more Bolt Action. I hope you bring more reports...one small complaint though. The background music is so horrible it makes me want to mute it until i eventually just turn off. it sounds like ive been put on hold to the electric company.
Just got into bolt action love it nice change of pace
First time i watched this game i really like it
love the bolt action games!
Why in the world was the US player not firing at those open top vehicles. Going DOWN with a tank with a pintle HMG sitting next to the wirblewind. The turret jams in the direction of the round too so it would have been pointing at the wirblewind. Vehicles that fail order tests reverse. An artillery observer is not a team weapon so killing him doesn't remove the whole unit. That being said, I LOVE the Bolt Action Battle Reports and look forward to the next one.
Yeah a lot of rules errors and omissions
please keep playing this game its great
Oh no, don't mix squad purposes, never have SMGs with LMGs! Lmgs (36") should go in rifle (24") squads to sit back and hold objectives so they can lay down fire without penalty from moving, and while they are in effective range the SMGs are being a waste of points (12").
Also a devious move is use the flamethrower in a pioneer unit - that way it has ablative wounds, and a good place for SMGs to be advancing with ;)
But love seeing more Bolt Action and Dave getting in too!!
A fantasitc Battlereport I must say! The atmosphere with Gaz is just awesome. I love it!
Just a couple things i picked up while you played.
The turret jam actually leaves the turret stuck to the direction the fire came from. I also just recently noticed it.
And Gaz's bazooka team it would have been better to move up closer to the Wirbelwind. If in point blank range the moving penalty is negated, so would also be a 3+ to Hit but he could have moved into the side armour and had a better chance of penning. This would left him with 2+ to hit in the cesecutive rounds. Furthermore on the Crew stunned result for the Wirbelwind by the bazooka team he also needed to roll a turret jam test.
The Wirbelwind with it's light autocannons can actually shoot either HE shells, using the 1" HE template with pen +1. These templates if you hit multiple shots actually need to be touching each other. On the other hand you can shoot the light autocannons with AP shells using their regular pen +2 without a HE template.
The first attack from the flamethrower team on the paratroopers would actually have missed. You were in point blank range but you have moved, making it a 3+ to hit. The Flamethrower just ignores the to Hit penalty for the enemy being Down or in cover
The unit in panic caused by the FUBAR actually moves them back fully with a run order and not 2D6. But I feel both your pain with the failed order tests :)
The Rally order isn't automatic. You irgnore your pins for the order test, so you test always on your full morale. After that you can remove D6+1 pins. I am not sure why gaz did it the wrong way somewhere at the beginning and in the end you did it correctly. but it's alright :)
In the end, dave, you cold have embarked the grenadiers into the halftrack and drove the full 18". It wouldn't have been distroyed because it's not empty at that point and you had your grenadier squad in the enemy deployment zone as well.
And sorry if these points come along a bit direct and harsh. but I just want to give you some constructive feedback on some rules, so the battlereport can improve in these terms. :) I still love your videos. Started way back in the days with 40k and im still in love too see you guys play Bolt Action!
I loved the state of the game at the start of round 4. Don't give your enemy a problem to solve, give him a dilemma. Just bought the grenadier starter set. Can't wait to get a game
When are you guys going to do more bolt action? Its pretty nice to see something that's not gw every once in a while, especially with all of the stuff that's been going on :(
thanks nice job
the US troop minis look fantastic! it's a great "good enough" tabletop look, and i assume it was relatively quick to achieve? did you use speed paints or contrast paints?
Hell yeah more bolt action
I think Dave would have a blast playing the Japanese in Bolt Action
honestly those bike cavalry were the MVP by sacrificing themselves to prevent the draw
Great batrep! I love the Bolt action content. Get Gaz to teach you some Black Powder next time for Napoleonic fun! Also Gaz, talk louder buddy. I can barely hear you
With all those ones it's like the return of quirk
It's your game Dave!
I'm like, "yay, new Bolt Action battle report!" Then I"m like /sob because there is absolutely nothing near me...
How come? Where you at?
Great game!
Great game!!! Bolt action is so intense haha
Haven’t played or know the rules other than through watching BatReps. Someone explain how one side can have several light vehicles including a Puma and an SPAA, and one only gets a medium tank and it’s equal?
The american side could have also taken more vehicles but chose not too, the german player on the other hand brought 1/1 tank slot (the whirlwind) 1/1 armored vehicle (puma) 2/6 transport ( 1 sdkfz 251 & 1 opel blitz) which is around 500pts whilst the American brought 292pts of armor. The game is more of an infantry game then armor anyhow and most tanks are difficult to get their points worth back, especially the heavier they get. The game is also pretty well balanced with their points values, so 1000pts vs 1000pts unless a list is heavily skewed should be pretty well balanced.
More bolt action!
If Warlord games fires Gaz, we revolt! ✊
Mistake straight off the bat. Road movement boost only works if the vehicle stays on the road for the whole move
Mistakes throughout. Still glad it was posted but SO MANY rules errors.
Can't be a rules mistake if you are the company who writes the rules ☺️
Cool game!
At 13:30 with the firing of the whirblewind.
Didn't he need to use the 1" HE template 8 times and have +1 pen because it's a 1" HE template. Or is it that you use the pen in the pen column always unless it says HE.
I thought it was that the pen column was like AT and can choose HE and use the HE pen. Right?
Correct. If choosing HE its the template.
yeah. either the autocannons can use "HE shells" with a 1" template and +1 pen or use "AP shells" with +2 pen with no template
We are told this game is not about the tanks...but as soon as someone loses their tank the game ends
love "first rank lieutenant" and "flamer". Very 40k/Legion
great game
Gaz is such a likeable Guy. Very hard to See all these ones
That American commander sure sounds quite British
I want to start an army so damn bad
What does the “reinforced” portion mean for this game system?
A reinforced platoon is the generic list you can use. The 'reinforced' is basically a reference to it including an armoured vehicle slot. However, there isn't a non reinforced platoon as such in the system as the other force selectors will be campaign/historically themed ones.
good game but you made a mistake that affected the final result. The Sherman's turret had to be locked in the direction of the Wirbelwind. When the turret blocks it must stay in the direction from which the shot was fired. This would allow the Sherman to continue firing throughout the game
I believe the whirlwind is HE so every hit is a 1in template with all the templates touching edge to edge
I'm pretty sure all German officers can activate 1 more unit as a German special rule. Can't for the life of me remember which book that info is in though.
So your 1st Lieutenant could actually activate 3 other units.
It's in the German army book along with plus 1 shots for mmgs and LMGs
@@thomaswallace7577 nice one. I lose track if it's additional stuff from the campaign books or indeed something from Konflikt '47.
1:40 ostwind?
Good game gents!
It looks like the german team has nothing to detroy the sherman short of the puma.
Am I the only one hearing "whirblewind" when Dave says, "whirlwind"?
Blame the British guys for teaching me how to pronounce it 🤣
Wirblewind (German) Whirlwind (English)
17:58 I died there
Dave wants to run forward....he should have picked the Japanese i think, they like running forward.
Or Americans - they ignore penalty's to hit when advancing.
Let's get some Bolt Action in the Vault please 🥰
Jeez just play!
1:06:10 "Just the tip"
I thought the road only extended distance if the full movement was on the road? And they only auto disembark with tank riders... unless I'm missing something
double distance on road, so long as you start and end on the road
Fairly Certain he auto-disembarked because it got blown up...
@@AustenKime he mentioned the rule where the second they are targeted, they are forced to dismount. That one specifically is the tank riders rule.
@@Scotty_C15 I mean you might be right but I think for the sake of the match and fluid play they reached an agreement as players and just rolled with it.... ain't that what gaming's about?
@@AustenKime normally I would agree as my friends and I forget rules all the time. But if you have a Rep for that specific game not knowing the rules for said game, it looks a little bad. I was mostly asking as I wasn't sure if I missed something in the errata or FAQ that made them do it.
What is up with the scale? Those vehicles are teenie.
Real life military vehicles aren't that big. Especially during the 2nd World War.
@@deece1482 not that teenie but hey big fan love what you did with Cadia
>English man calls the US lieutenant "left tenant"
Feels so wrong
Leftenant is the proper term. Lieutenant is the shorter term.
@@deece1482 "leftentant" is a specifically English variation of it bro.
Dear MWG.
Thanks for the battle reports, i really enjoy them!
Im not very interested in ww2 things, but like warhammer and other fantasy games.
Here's s a content idea - do battle reports with box sets whenever they come out. Like Indomitus or Shadow and Pain. Or even clash of Combat Patrol boxes / Battleforce / Start Collecting boxes.
You could do them even before release if you have all the units alteady.
I understand that those would be smaller army sizes and shorter videos, but I, for example, would be very interested in such content to see how the bundle box plays. I think many new players start their army with those boxes and do not necessarily own anything extra to put into the army.
Anyway, i'd very much love to see that!
Bolt Action is one of the easiest games to get into and convince people to get into. A basic infantry box (30 models) will generally give you a basic platoon, so for $50~ you can make two squads, an officer and aids, and a special unit like a sniper or artillery officer, slap on a tank (30~) and you have enough to play 500-700pt games, with enough units to get a good tactical game in :)
@@bombarded15 I'm not doubting that it's a good game.
I'm just not at all into ww1/2 fantasy, and any "real life" settings in general for that matter. I will always prefer fantasy or sci-fi to anything set in reality.
@@Aisaaax So don't click on the video? The channel isn't tailored to you alone buddy xD
There is a nice crowd for this game where I live but always those people that think 40k is sooo much better.
The Warlord Games rep doesn’t seem to know the rules very well, unless he’s just hand waving a lot of them to keep things going. 😳
What Rules did he get wrong? I still think it was great to see some bolt action battle reports!
@@AustenKime I posted about it. Loved the Report but a crazy amount of errors. Turret jam, friendly fire, pintle mount on tank, open topped vehicles....and more.
Player number 2 should play Tommys. Would be much more authentic 🤣👍
Player 1 - try 2 TIGERS next time 😁
Does anybody else get a serious feeling of condescension from gaz
Couldn’t be further from reality. Gaz is amongst the most enjoyable opponents I’ve played.
@@miniwargaming must just be me then
@@stethespaniard2 Guessing you're American haha
@@bombarded15 nope. English
I'm english and tbh, Gaz came across as a pretty nice guy.... unlike certain gutter snipey-comments I know ¬_¬
I've watched this for 9 mins. Not only did Gaz get the rules re moving vehicles on roads wrong, he is hesitating assaulting a truck full of vet Germans with his own veterans, when he would have a huge advantage in having first strike. Marvellous figures and board, but I will not be watching the rest for the same reason that I do not watch the Warlord BA games, ie they consistently get the rules wrong. Shame for wasting a brilliant game.
