I live in rural Kentucky. The wild life here has been decimated by coyotes, especially things like rabbits, racoons, opossums and other small animals. Every coyote that I see is history.

  • @TheSpiderInTheCorner1
    @TheSpiderInTheCorner1 Год назад +2

The whole thing about coyote hunting is that it does not really affect the population. In the 1890’s and the early 1900’s, bounties for wolves decimated the population. However, bounties for coyotes barely even took a dent despite having around 100,000 coyotes being killed a year according to Coyote America by Dan Flores.
Not to mention that feral dogs killing livestock may also be misidentified for a Coyote attacks. According to the book Coyote America, the majority of the meat diet comes from rodents and carrion not by hunting large game like whitetail or mule deer.
There are also numerous non lethal ways that have proven effective in preventing Coyote attacks on livestock, such as lights that will periodically turn on during the night or keeping livestock in a secure area.
Not to mention that trapping is doing more environmental harm than good, as trapping can catch any non targeted wildlife such as deer or fox instead of Coyotes. Not to mention that this causes prolonged suffering for any animal and it would be better to actually make a quick and clean kill with a rifle.
However, the fact that you mentioned that cannot control the Coyote population disproves your entire argument of “population control”.
It’s simple ecology, if prey animals have no predators, then their numbers increase; if a prey animals numbers increase, than a predator population also increases, and if there are too many predators than the prey numbers decrease until there is a fine balance for the ecosystem to support enough predators and prey.
The best way that coyotes could be “controlled” is that they can’t be and hunting them is ultimately a waste of time. There’s a lot more animals that do more damage than coyotes such as wild boar.

human is the only true monster on earth. I understand that coyotes can do some annoying stuff, like kill pets, but we do much worse things. We build on their territories. I also think that it is selfish to not let them hunt our livestock. Humans use most of them to food, so coyotes have right to hunt even one. Humans after all brought them on the place, where predator can easly hunt them. So i blame pepole of all this. I think coyotes are too misundersood.

By killing coyotes, hunters give an unnecessary foothold to species lower in the food chain, and nature responds by creating more coyotes to control those populations. Therefore, the go-to reason for coyote-killing is, in effect, a great reason not to kill them.

No that doesn’t make sense. Keep in mind the reasons for their increase in numbers is several fold one they have a higher birth rate by far over wolves and bear the only real predators, add to that the removal of said animal from the environment have led to an explosion in coyote population’s. I wonder if a better solution then to reintroduce wolves would be unlimited hunting of coyotes and hogs with a increase on limits to animals on decline maybe a couple years. I know we have enough limitations but if all hunters are focused on coyotes and hogs I think the last number I heard was 40 million in US alone. With coyotes and hogs birth rates alone this population would be safe for a long time currently only 2% of population is being harvested and with that the numbers are out of control.

Have you heard of the idea that lethal control of coyotes leads to pack disruption which leads to more outside coyotes and coyotes within their pack being able to breed? (By killing the pack alpha, the other coyotes in the pack are then able to freely breed, leading yo more coyotes in the end). Just curious about your input, thanks!

Coyotes are amazingly adaptable creatures. People have been trying to exterminate them from the SW for years, all it has done is increase/spread their populations. Killing a male triggers hormonal changes in the females, which leads to larger litters: the pups mature 6 months from birth.
If you enjoy hunting coyotes, that's one thing ... but don't kid yourself that you're controlling them!

I'm not an anti-hunter guy by any measure, I used to hunt pheasant and squirrel a little with my dad and have a fondness for guns which translated into a love for combative weapons centric martial arts, but that's aside the point.
I mention all of this to give grounding for my next assertion:
Killing coyotes to cull their population does not work. We've been trying this for decades and haven't out a dent in their numbers, rather, it has been increasing them. It is a perpetual issue and it's being handled the wrong way because we are trying to treat this issue the same way we treat other animal population surpluses, which is just through killing them.
Coyotes are territorial and mate for life; kill their partner and they will bring in a new, more aggressive one to control that area. They become more cautious, they find new ways to breed and mature faster. They ADAPT too quickly. Hazing us a far more preferable method however because that same conditioned behavior can work in the opposing direction as well. They are, ultimately, dogs. With how we are treating them right now, they're just learning to be more careful and aggressive; they are getting better at what they already do. They aren't LEARNING to stay away from human settlements or livestock, however, which they CAN do and get away with as they can thrive on small prey like field mice and rats.
As of the moment, the sheer popularity of "Shoot on sight" that has become popular is only making the problem worse and NEVER permanently resolves the issue. Doesn't help that 75% of people can't even accurately pick out a coyote from other wild dogs and fear mongering around them is rampant AKA making the situation infinitely worse.
I won't lie, I do have an affection for these creatures, but I wouldn't say any of this if I didn't genuinely believe people were just approaching this topic with the wrong mindset. Animal culling is not a one size fits all topic; some animals require an approach other than just increased hunting because we have tried that plenty and it hasn't done a damn bit of good.

I REALLY liked your video!!! I watched a video that stated "...once coyotes have learned the wrong way, they can Never be untrained". Coyotes hunting in human inhabited areas are Broken. They are Failing to serve their useful purpose. There are too many in the Human Habitats. They need to be eliminated so they don't hand their Failed Learning down to their offspring and the learning becomes perpetually worse. I've watched countless videos just like you have attested where coyotes tear their prey alive to bits and pieces in the most severe ways and I've watched countless videos where wolves initially might have to take a leg to pull the animal down but go for the throat and put it out of misery asap nearly every time and they only take down the sick first whenever possible. I've seen documentaries explaining how keen they are at separating what is humanly undetectable unhealthy animals and only upon investigation we discover that what was wrong with the animal the wolf knew. Wolves also govern many subspecies like beavers and in turn have a healthy effect on critical water systems that serve the entire areas various animal populations, preventing THEM from dying out of the rings of balance. The coyote doesn't know its place, it doesn't know it's food, it's a rogue weed at this point sorely in need of it's Athority The Wolf. And if it were mountain lions attacking children on the beach or Wolves or bears people would be screaming to the authorities who would move on it quickly. Every coyote incident in the news says these incidences are "...very rare" and yet they state immediately 3-5 (as many as 7!) previous incidences and always say they're on the rise. We don't hear such reports of other species to this escalation. My playlists are FULL of actual physical attacks all across the U.S.. THEY ARE NOT RARE. There needs to be more Honest Admission and Awareness that living peacefully with predidory wild animals in human habitat is unrealistic when as in the case with coyotes... in human habitats where wolves, bears and mountain lions (animals that control coyote populations) are not tolerated (nor should they be) the coyote will be a Rogue... and grow at weed speed. I say to ignorant who think that only coyotes in the wild are wild, the rest are cute "let's feed them"... The Wild Is In Their Blood NOT In Their Behavior. There's no such thing as a "wild" coyote or "wild" wolf or bear. The words Coyote, Wolf, Bear, Mountain Lion, Cheeta, Leopard, Tiger, Hyena all convey absolute Wild. So saying the redundant "Wild coyote" makes nonthinkers believe that there's such a thing as domestic coyotes or that they're somehow as docile and cute and feedable as birds, bunnies and squirrels when in reality they're not showing fear is exhibiting Learned Failure.
I disagree with coyote hate that harbors disgusting individuals that abusively torture their trapped coyotes or shoot to mame and suffer them but there is tremendous good in hunters who are controlling them despite opposition from so many who don't want to see the whole picture. Your video/you did a great job of providing the whole picture simply for Those Who DO Choose To Look At The Whole Problem. It's too bad that despite this comprehensive information, those who preferentially ignore it are more of a Failure than they teach the coyotes to be!!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOUD CLEAR VOICE!!
RESTORING BALANCE IS THE END GOAL ❤️ IT'S NOT WRONG FOR HUMANS TO HAVE THEIR OWN HABITATS AND BE RESPECTED BY ANIMALS. MUTUAL RESPECT IS THE BIGGEST PRIZE!
