He has the friendliest coyote eyes ive ever seen, if that makes sense. You can tell how a canine is thinking by their eyes, theres a "wild" look that you see in wild coyotes and especially wolves. When they get used to people, their eyes change, the look becomes calm, hope im not the only one that can see it.
Could be probably because of theis slow blinking. In many animal groups, slow blinking means that the animal is calm and doesn't want to fight you. The reason why is because closing their eyes for a long period of time is revealing a weakness, wild animals want to keep their eyes open in case an enemy would show up.
I think you're mistaking "alert" for "wild". A lot of animals will look alert at the sight of humans, which makes photos of them where they don't look alert exceptionally rare.
I've seen that look myself in the coyotes that steel my chickens. After a few interactions, they become nonchalant and passive about my presence and even playfully about me chasing them.

Dakota loves you so much! He give you more kisses then my rescued Australian cattle dog gives me after 4 years. That’s so sweet! Thanks for showing them your love. ❤
Dakota doesn't allow anyone to change his water so he makes sure you're visiting him every single day. What a smart guy he is 😻❤🐺 I met the same issue at my shelter with some cats who would only accept me for changing their food or cleaning their cages. So i had to be there everydays, or even had to foster the most demonstrative ones not to have complains with my volunteers and employees. And once at my home (or let's say once they'd have obtained what they were willing for) they'd never show any kind of agressity anymore. Even had a kitty girl who literally "refused" 3 adoptions + a foster home. People would love her beacause she was a very little adult cat who'd stay small all her life long. But she destroyed everything everywhere she got adopted. So she was returned to us the 4 times. She was also every days escaping from any cage or any enclosure she was placed in. Noone could catch her back until i would arrive and she'd run to me at the first call. After recuperating her from 4 homes and from all around the shelter everydays i finally brought her home. It took her 10 minutes to visit the whole place and get adjusted. After these ten minutes, she stepped next to me on the caoch purring as i never heard her doing since that day, and she spend the rest of her life at my side. Just to say that when an animal who struggled in his life is chooses you, it's often to offer some unconditional love. Dakota is just one of them. And you're the human he wants to be with for the rest of his life. So enjoy all this time you can share with him 😽
Until recently was the human companion of a coydog, who kept me company for 12 years before leaving this earth. She was the best companion this old guy's ever had, so gentle, so smart, so loving. Dakota's attitude reminded me a lot of my dear Josie. I couldn't help but notice Dakota shared one trait I found so endearing about Josie: he doesn't seem to have that need to lick your face all over at every opportunity that he can. Josie would sniff my face but seldom lick, which allowed me to get closer to her as she was so snuggleable, I loved to bury my face in her thick neck fur. But as a guard dog she was totally worthless as she was always pretty timid around strangers unless accompanied by me. Another weird, endearing trait she had was the only time she ever barked was when she was expressing happiness, never in anger or aggressively. I sure do miss her and really enjoyed watching Dakota.
I mean, don't all guys want to live that way deep down inside? Being left alone in our space, getting to see our mate and able to drag our asses across the ground when we feel like it.
LOL!!! You know that coyotes have a reputation for representing the "jokester" or "trickster"---right? Him butt scooting just as you were saying "So this is just the way he wants to be..." LOL!! Classic.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Horses communicate in body language, and he and the horses were greeting each other. I would like to see more footage of their interactions. I have learned from some trainers to mimic this horse greeting by letting the horse sniff my closed fist. Props to Dakota as a liberty trainer in that he was able to bring them over and keep their interest.
He's so fking adorable. I was quite fortunate to have an encounter with a wild coyote here in Eastern Canada. Not sure if he had seen humans before but he was alone, and I was on the beach behind my house fishing. I seen him scouting the area out, I had fish laid out ready to cook for lunch. After a while he got the nerve to come closer and I threw him a fish. While I ate mine, he took his a little bit away and lid down to eat it, casting glances over my way. I'll never forget the lil guy. He never showed any aggression towards me, just a bit of skittishness at first. But he (or she?) was beautiful and I was blessed by their prescence..
I do love him and the horses! Their curiosity is really cute towards each other. It's nice he at least has some other animal interaction, on his terms of course :)
Really and truly horses are weird in that they can get along with a lot of creatures, as long as they feel safe a horse is (generally) chill, and other animals like that. Probably helps horses aren't predators
@@storyjumper horse are being used a lot in therapy, there's a whole emergent field of horse aided therapy for different mental conditions. I have no idea how effective that is though. But might stem from that exactly
@pikachu chuuu they are not predators in the way a wolf or cougar are predators... and I'll be perfectly honest I've never heard that, much less seen that and I grew up on a farm that had both cattle and horses together. Sure, a horse can and will stomp on anything, cows too, they even bite. But hunt them to eat them? Nah. Maybe if they're starving and desperate
I have no experience with Coyotes, but I got adopted by a family of Lynxes when I first came to New Zealand. They were great companions and kept my acreage pretty free of rodents and rabbits (a real problem here). What surprised me is that they acted just like bigger versions of house cats and got along famously with my bit ginger tom. And BOY could they purr! The older two are long gone, but the daughter still lives with her mate on my old property and she still recognizes me when I visit. Now, I have been adopted by a fox family and a solo raccoon, all of whom are very human-friendly. My shepherd/husky mix dog loves them and my squirrels, but my 18lb puss cat is less tolerant, especially of the raccoon, who is quite fond of cat food. And, no, I've never been bitten by the foxes, although the big male will nibble my fingers if he thinks there is a treat in it for him.
I'm honestly surprised by how cute and sociable these coyotes can be. I have to worry about them getting my chickens but they seem like cool little critters.
I like the calm interested look you have when you observe Dakota communicating with the horses! ( 06:41 - 06:56 ). Thanks for sharing this live animal communication with others! :)

Humans who keep wild animals are frustrating. Thank you for the work you do. So he's bonded to you, what happens if you leave and, you know, have a life? Will he accept another human being as a caretaker? (Probably female.) How long do they live in captivity?
@@ailleananaithnid2566 Dear Aillean, I agree with you totally, and unlike the person underneith and another commenter who seems to think it's the norm to shoot an animal like this do not think just because we can keep wild animals that we should, it's wrong not allowing animals their own families and pack or herd etc. their natural behaviours and to live at peace and just protect them in their own natural habitat but I don't think this young lady will ever leave Dakota. I know I would rather die than do that if I were her. He would certainly die of a broken heart at least without her. That's what I was concerned about as she is an already very busy with the fox's young woman who would obviously want to just be a young woman at some point, that's why I felt concern for Dakota getting desperately lonely without her but the comments have been heard as we can tell from this video so hopefully she will come and see him every day now.

Dakota is absolutely beautiful. He indeed received lot of love, you can easily tell that. I live out in a rural area near open cattle ranches, though it's nice to see the Coyotes in that setting, I do know the local ranchers keep a close eye on them in particular during the calving season. I know they are dispatched during that time of year, but on the flip side you cannot have them killing your calves either. The ranchers respect them, but have the need to control them too. Dakota, just understand you are a very lucky boy, and love your Mommy!

So Dakota isn’t a chonky boi- he’s just literally and figuratively extra. Good to know.
I just cannot get over how ADORABLE Coyote speak is!!! And as a fellow Thyroid sufferer, I sympathize extra much with Dakota.
You can tell he's a domesticated coyote, he's definitely well fed
I don't think "domesticated" is the right term, but I do see your point. He's a wild animal that's been raised around humans. Clearly he has bonded and sees her as his "mate."
I think you mean tamed rather than domesticated.
To me, hearing coyotes calling in the night is one of life's most pleasant and comforting experiences.

This video made me wonder about the "Ever Elusive" Felix. was he a house fox? Tell us about him. he seems to spend all the time on the tree and does not socialice with you or the other foxes.
Felix seems like the only fox that can make it in the wild. He looks like a fox that can be rehabliitated and released back into the wild or a sanctuary
Some say Felix is the spirit of the tree itself, he is one with the tree, the tree is one with him.
Dakota loves you so much! He give you more kisses then my rescued Australian cattle dog gives me after 4 years. That’s so sweet! Thanks for showing them your love. ❤

Dakota doesn't allow anyone to change his water so he makes sure you're visiting him every single day. What a smart guy he is 😻❤🐺
I met the same issue at my shelter with some cats who would only accept me for changing their food or cleaning their cages.

Oh he's so darn cute. I love how he talks.

@tnnt05 Watch that segment closely. His movements are "weird" until you realize he's speaking horse.
@tnnt05 He was imitating a horse trot.
pretty sure he's just scratching himself against the fence here, canines tend to do that with their heads when you scratchum good on the backside
Yes! This!
But he (or she?) was beautiful and I was blessed by their prescence..
okay you got me emotionally invested in this coyote now. Is there any chance for an update on the little feller? Did you ever see him again?

Really and truly horses are weird in that they can get along with a lot of creatures, as long as they feel safe a horse is (generally) chill, and other animals like that. Probably helps horses aren't predators

@pikachu chuuu I'm not sure if you are joking or not....
Dakota says “yeah, you make it educational......imma just going to sit over here and lower the tone”. Heh heh
