Yeah, I feel like most people would just try and grab the coyote. The only coyote I have ever seen up close is one that died on our property. But I've heard them constantly. They really have no interest in people.

Yeah I would see them at the ends of my property but they would disappear just like that. At night I would hear their howls way up in the mountains... Really don't care for humans, or anything really.

Yeah. I've only ever met someone other than myself or coyote that respects wild animal and aren't terrified of them. I love to catch snakes, even venomous ones, and relocate them. Where as most other people would kill snakes

It’s true that coyotes don’t pose any threat to humans, but if you live in an area with coyotes make sure you keep your cats and small dogs in at nighttime!

I feel like animals can just tell when a person is 100% good-hearted, and can feel comfortable around people like Coyote.

Well, yes and no. Being comfortable around animals helps but you absolutely need the extensive training Coyote and other professional handlers all have. Especially with wild animals.

Native Americans, especially Mesoamericans (Aztec, Yaqui, even Apache), revere the Coyote as a brother. I am not trying to create racial division or anything, I am just trying to illustrate the differences in culture. White men seem to want to just shoot them with a high powered rifle. I understand the reasons - they kill livestock. But the hate is really reprehensible.

Making baseless presuppositions isn't rational and moralizing without context and understanding is equally irrational. I'm not going to chase down coyotes (assuming I could even catch them) and strangle them to death. But whinging about farmers blasting them for killing chickens and pets is not some asinine, heartless endeavor done by cruel, cruel, evil man.

I hear coyotes howling from time to time on the North Mountain Reserve right next to where I live in Phoenix, Arizona. Coyotes are such beautiful creatures, as are wolves and foxes. These animals deserve all the respect and understanding that us humans should give them. It’s a shame that humans don’t want to learn more about what they don’t understand and instead they resort to driving such essential creatures to extinction.

While I have never felt threatened whenever I'm within range of a coyote, I still have a deeply set frustration with them because they have often picked off our livestock and our pets.

Coyotes are wonderful and highly intelligent creatures. Their howl is a “roll call”. When a coyote doesn’t respond then the females automatically go into heat to replenish the coyotes that are gone. That’s the main reason humans have failed at wiping them out.

Oh just Coyote Peterson recreating the moment in ancient history when Humans first started domesticating wolves, but cuter and with lower stakes.
I thought it was generally accepted that wolves domesticated themselves, following humans and living off our scraps.
Lance L. That’s true. And over time, the more docile and friendlier ones who were less scared of humans, succeeded in passing on their genes over the more wild and aggressive ones. Since wilder wolves would’ve avoided people completely. Eventually, the humans noticed that there were friendly wolves who gave the benefit of guarding against other wolves, and could help with hunting. And then they started their end of the domestication process.

@@rerererere4114 Deer can be trained similarly to any other animal (such as the deer in Nara, Japan who have learned to bow their heads for food), but I don't think they can learn verbal cues like dogs.
@@rerererere4114 generally animals that need to actively hunt (vs ambush predators)will be more intelligent as they need to outsmart and predict the actions of their prey. They also need to be able to adapt and adjust strategies depending on what they are hunting. The effect is even greater in group hunters as they also need to be able to predict what the other group members will do.

Coyotes are actually my favoUrite (I'm Canadian) animal I love them so much. I absolutely loved your little speech in the end. Now, I know that my favourite animal is good/safe.
He's such a sweet boy. He took those treats so gently from your hands and didn't nip you at all. There are dogs that have trouble with that.
Because for one, these people are educated about how to behave around the animals and two, dogs are more likely develop behavioural issues due to people not being educated enough about dogs or because they haven't been socialised properly.

Edit: also, predators are neccessary to keep small animals in proper numbers. Otherwise they'll overpopulate, eat all the available food, then die of starvation.
