These are my favorite videos. Your Auntie’s home is so cozy. Just like the house I grew up in. No fancy furnishings or anything, but it’s so cozy. When it was time for you to leave, I was like, “No. I don’t want to yet.”
You went from the coldest place on earth (love the videos) to the warmest place on earth! Love your auntie! It's still winter here but I feel warm inside. Thank you.
Your family is precious. . Watching your auntie cook is how you learn and continue your traditions. It's how Harriet and I learned. It's part of who we are. Great Job with the video. Thank you so much for your efforts. Love you dearly. ❤❤❤ Harriet, Jim and Yuki from Richmond, Va.
My favorite Tatar’s uchpucmaks, Balish, gubadia and many other yummies that our grandma ( abika )) used to bake and cook for us. Missed her and grandpa so much and those happy times when we were together …
Loved your video . The aga stove is not only good for cooking but for heating the kitchen . In my youth on a farm in Africa we spend most of the winter , which could be quite severe , in the kitchen warmed with exactly such a stove . Present always was a kettle with coffee and my grandmother cooking a stew . I was so impressed by the pickled tomatoes that I googled and found a recipe called , Russian grandmothers pickled tomatoes Next week on the farmers market I will buy tasty tomatoes ( no supper stuff for this ) and pickle them .

Aww this reminds me so much of visiting my grandparents in Finland, the bread and food made in a wood heated oven is on another level, and everything around the scents and sounds. Thanks for bringing back wonderful memories🫂..
@@MattandJulia Yes cozy, especially one year visiting during christmas, raging snowstorm outside, snow everywhere winds howling, power outage, but no worries sparkling wood and candles kept us warm and cozy like a long warm hug, will always remember the safe and warm feeling from the stove going to bed...
Hey Matt, those reminded me of pasties! Right! My dad's oldest sister had a coal stove. I remember sitting by it when we came in from outside and warming next to it. I remember the smell too. Brings back old memories. Julia, your auntie reminded me of my aunts (dads two sisters) who always had special treats waiting for when we went over, especially pies and babkas! So good to see that cultures are the same and memories can be shared. Thank you again for the reminders. Be safe....stay warm(hahahaha) we love you all, Chris from Ann Arbor.
Hey Chris! Yeah exactly, really similar to pasties 🤗 It is so cozy and definitely helps us to stay warm 😃 Thank you so much, so glad you enjoyed it 🥰 Lots of love ❤️
I love these more personal and insightful videos. Nothing is more important than family and food, although I have to say that I think Matt drew the short straw this time. 😅 Julia standing in the nice warm kitchen cooking with Auntie and then Matt trying valiantly to clear the snow from the roof with Julia laughing at him, had me laughing as well. Matt, you can take the boy out of England, but you can't take England out of the boy. 😅
I so love and enjoy watching Julia and her family! Your Aunties home is so welcome and to me is just overflowing with love! I do so enjoy the cooking videos too! Family, friends, and food - doesn’t get any better than that ❤
Oh what a treat! I would like to try those Turkic Pies, will they be part of the future cooking course ? Last week I was visiting my relatives in a small hamlet in the north of Cordoba province, in the middle of Argentina. The house is over 120 years old and has an original coal stove, ( we call it "cocina economica" here ) but no one has used it for several decades. The next time I visit the house I will try to use it, checking the vent first.... I see that Matt not only has problems opening champagne bottles but also jars! or do you prank him? did you put glue on it? ha ha By the way those tomatoes look tempting too! They come from your aunt's own orchard?? well thanks for another beautiful video, bye from Torrid Buenos Aires !! How I envy that snow!!
Hey Alejandro! 🥰 Oooh that sounds amazing! I wonder if it still works? 😮 Hahaha, I may be pranking him 😈😅 Yes the tomatoes are from my Grans garden 🥰 Lots of love to Buenos Aires!! 🥰❤️

I envy you guys. Julia you are so fortunate to come from such a wonderful part of the world. I just love Siberia from what I have seen not only in your videos but anything to do with Siberia and the Altai region. Last night watched some guys follow the Katun river to its source. Absolutely sensational to see. Keep up the good work Matt, Julia. You got to get the smell sensor to work on the camera though. Cruel not to be able to smell the delights that came out of the Aga. Thanks Aunty. 👋 from Tauranga New Zealand.
The pies looked so delicious that it reminded me of my grandmother's kitchen when she had a wood cookstove and all the meals that were cooked on that woodstove were extremely good. Good memories, Matt and Julia all the best!
Thank you so much for sharing your videos, especially the ones like this that show we are the same regardless of where we live. The age-old process of preparing and serving food and being with family is something common to us all. I love seeing how your aunt cooks on a wood burning stove, as my mother did. Enjoy the rest of your travels, and I hope to see more videos!
Childhood memories are the most precious. I remember growing up in a small German town for the first 5 years of my life before migrating to Australia but my memories are the smells of the landscape, tasting heartfelt food & learning to understand my surroundings. You two make beautiful videos so keep up the amazing work 🍻👍
Hello Matt & Julia! I found your beautiful channel about a month or so ago.. and I can't stop "binge watching" all of your wonderful videos! My mouth us watering OMG! Would you share the recipe for your Aunties pickled tomatoes? Love watching your videos so relaxing and fascinating, cooking with the wood stove is a lost art.❤ Thank you so much!
In my youth, beginning more than 70 years ago, I often visited family in West Virginia, USA. Compared to others in the area they would have been considered wealthy. Not so much dollars in the pocket but wealth in terms of land holdings including timber and farmland. Today, I would call it a barter economy. My aunt and uncle lived in a valley near a running stream in an old wooden house with bees and wasps nesting in the rafters and a wood stove rising through the floor providing warmth. They also had a new house with all the amenities built on the hillside for them by the children. They never lived in it. My aunt was a fabulous cook using basically what she grew on the property. She had a gas stove and everything she needed on the hillside but she choose to use an old stove in the stream side house instead. She would get up in the darkness, before everyone else and stoke up the stove. You could smell the burning wood throughout the house. She cooked and baked everything imaginable on and in that stove. I can still smell the things she made and her wonderful smile when I went to check on it. Much like Julia and her auntie there in Siberia but not as cold.
Thank you so much for sharing this! It sounds absolutely lovely! 🥰 I wish I could meet you Auntie experience her cooking with you 😍 Thank you so much ❤️
@@MattandJulia - Julia, although she passed many years ago now, I can assure that the two of you would have been fast friends. She loved to cook and it was all done with the natural ingredients available at the time in the mountain country of the Appalachians. They ran hunting parties in the fall and she served many folks from that stove/oven. She was a kind and generous soul and always with a beautiful smile - one thing the two of you would have shared in common :-)

Reminds me of when I was a young'n living in the country, we had central heat provided by an old coal stove in the living room and, in the kitchen, my Ma cooked on a beautiful porcelain trimmed , wood stove.
@@MattandJulia my girlfriend...who would be wife two years later was from St Pete. Spent one week there...one week Novogorod...then ended up one week very tiny villge next to lumber mill. Coldest venture of my life.
Awww love it. I always remember my grammas place and hanging with my cousins in Bosnia as a child. I wish I can have they kemory back for 1 day to relieve it.
This reminds me of my mother from years ago when we were kids ( 70s/80s ) and she would always bake pies ( savoury and sweet ) I would watch her or we would help, I came from a very large family so she had a big metal mixer. Unfortunately as years went by supermarket bought food became far more common in the home making people baking a thing of pass, to me those years were the best when every meal was home cooked with fresh ingredients. Great to watch you being involved in the cooking with your Aunty, I am sure you will treasure these moments in the future.
Hi Matt and Julia A Julia i learnt how to cook and bake and very good at but you are a very good cook Julia i would love to taste your pastrys and yes i try some Russian food when i was there in 2006.
I know such oven from my childhood. The food was well prepared and in winter time, a stone was heated up, put into a blanket and placed into the bed under the blanket. Warm and cosy when going for sleep at night. Btw, we viewers including Julia were expecting that the whole amount of snow would have come down at once. Have seen it many times in other videos and I am sure thats why Julia was filming it. I am sure she would come to rescue you Matt immediately, or a bit later when she would have stopped laughing.
I suspect, when one said she usually rolls them in her hands and the other said she usually rolls them on the table… It reminds me of when my dad sliced veggies in his hands versus me on a cutting board. YOU USE WHAT YOU HAVE ON HAND. 🥰
I love your vlogs so much!! We’re all basically living the same all around the world 😃. The pastries are like triangular pasties with chicken, but look much nicer on the top! Pickled tomatoes looked lovely!! I’m so lazy ordering easy food on line! Do people in the bigger cities in Russia have food deliveries, takeaways etc? Your Aunt reminds me of my Mum and i miss cooking with her now that she’s no longer here. Bet both your families miss you when you’re away! Snow 😍. 🌻🥰🙅♀️🙅♀️
Thank you so much Sally! Really appreciate it 🥰❤️ Yes in mostly all Russian cities you have the Russian equivalent of Uber Eats etc. The most popular delivery are Sushi, Pizza, Shawarma, Plov and burgers ❤️🥰

Whereabouts did you go? 🥰❤️
So glad we could bring back some memories Joseph 🥰 Lots of love ❤️🙏🏼
Thank you, Dinner at Aunty's was awesome fun. I will definitely make some.
Thank you so much Angel! ❤️
Fantastic video as always! Thank you! 👍 😃
Thank you so much Craig! 🥰
I like your videos….Very comforting to watch.
Thank you so much!! 🥰❤️
Hi Matt and Julia A Julia i learnt how to cook and bake and very good at but you are a very good cook Julia i would love to taste your pastrys and yes i try some Russian food when i was there in 2006.
Thank you so much Ieuan! If only we could pass traste through the screen 😃❤️
1:20 Siberian cat...❤️🐱❤️🐱
She’s a beauty! 🥰❤️
I suspect, when one said she usually rolls them in her hands and the other said she usually rolls them on the table… It reminds me of when my dad sliced veggies in his hands versus me on a cutting board. YOU USE WHAT YOU HAVE ON HAND. 🥰
Always use what you have on hand 🥰❤️
Good to see someone else cook by touch. Makes me feel so connected though never have done that dish. Hugs to all
Love to you Cheryl 🥰❤️
Really appreciate it 🥰❤️
Yes in mostly all Russian cities you have the Russian equivalent of Uber Eats etc. The most popular delivery are Sushi, Pizza, Shawarma, Plov and burgers ❤️🥰
I love when you go to your Auntie's house. I wish I could visit, and have a personal tour. But, I'd have to win the lottery. Love this video
Thank you so much!! ❤️❤️❤️
Yummy little pies. In all the time I've been in Batumi (or other climates like it), I have never, ever, had to shovel the rain.
Hahaha, no rain certainly doesn’t shovel that well 😅❤️
Mm so good food and need hard work with snow ❄️ also. This village life makes strong in body and mind ❤
For sure! Lots of love ❤️
