My 2002 is still in great shape. Every time I think I want to change it for a "better one," I find that I would have to pay more than 7,000 to get something in the shape of mine. I do go off-road, but I give it maintenance regularly. I don't let anything wear out. I believe the Mercury Mariner is AWD, not 4WD. Do you have a select switch for 4WD and 4WD low?

You can pull the selector switch and wire a toggle directly to ptu so you can turn the back wheels on or off at will
